First time checking out Big Vinny's bbq and was not disappointed! Food truck with tables outside! I got the 2 meat platter, brisket and smoked sausage and had a dealers choice of a side which I was lucky enough to receive the spicy street corn and bbq beans. (Thank you for that!) The brisket and burnt ends had delicious flavor and the brisket was so tender and juicy. I enjoyed the burnt ends because it had good texture. The smoked sausage was fantastic, I had sausage with cheddar and I do believe the gator and I loved the flavors of them both. The spicy street corn was one of my favorites because I love spicy and creamy and it ticked all the boxes. When in Austin, dine at a food truck. While exploring South Congress Avenue, my friend and I stopped at this food truck for lunch. There were tables with umbrellas to block out the sun, and a refreshing breeze so it was quite pleasant to eat there, despite the heat of the day. I decided to order the 2 meat plate and chose the Pork Spare Ribs and Sausage, along with the following 2 sides: Street Corn and Potato Salad. Those Pork Spare Ribs were AMAZING. Seriously, some of the best I have ever had. The meat tasted almost candied, and was slightly crispy with nice smoky taste. There was a sweet and savory flavor that came through and no additional sauce needed. The meat was also perfectly tender, juicy, and oh so well seasoned. The Sausage was also tasty and very juicy, boasting yummy spices, and delightfully flavorful. Street corn was good, but as I ate more of it, found the sauce to be quite spicy and I couldn't handle it. The Potato Salad was decent, and covered with paprika. The potatoes were cooked well and ingredients combined together cohesively. I just didn't eat much of it because I wanted to finish more of the mains. The meal also came with Texas toast (just white bread - no butter on this one), as well as pickles and raw onion. The person behind the counter, cooking and serving the food was really nice and chill. I walked up and the guy inside says "hey, what's your name?" I tell him "Tah". He says Tah. I'm Big Vinny. "How are you today?" I told him "I am amazing, stupendous, miraculous and I am hearing all about your fantastic grub." He smiled with the confidence if a 15 foot gorilla in a world of 2 foot tall monkeys. I asked if he preferred me to use cash or card. We had a brief and pleasant convo on how cash benefits us both, so I ran back to my truck and got cash. I ordered $20 of lean brisket. Fam... socks knocked completely off!!! This was the thickest, most satisfying cuts of brisket I have had to date. This is not the dainty, thin sliced brisket they serve at 99% of the barbecue joints in Austin. This is Brisket for a brisket lover. Even though the meat was leaan, there was the perfect amount of fat on the edges and the char on the ends was PERFECT! I feel like I got more than the amount I asked for. Awesome BBQ from a small food truck parked on South Congress. The owner's Dad was running the show that day. What a great guy! The Brisket was amazing, the beef ribs also. I got the coleslaw and also the pinto beans. I went back for a second tray of food to try the Turkey and the sausage. Dipping sauce was on point with sides of pickles and onions and three or four slices of white wonder bread. Coleslaw was fresh crisp and not too sweet. The pinto beans savory with large chunks of brisket simmered into it. Also savory without being too brown sugar sweet. They do an enormous amount of catering orders early in the day as soon as they open and they run out of food around 5:00pm so get there early around 12pm to 2pm while the food is still plentiful. They have three tables with umbrellas right next to the truck and they are parked in the corner of the parking lot of a local meat market with an adjacent customer parking lot. Being situated right on the street side you get a real show while eating your BBQ. If you can't handle the long lines , hour long wait time and lack of parking at Terry Black's BBQ go to Big Vinny's instead. Great service, support the small independent business owner and his Dad. Both the owner and head smoker reached out to discuss what happened and convinced me to stop by and try the food again. I'm very glad I did. When presented properly, the food was really good. I loved the rub they used on the meat. The sides were good, too. The corn had a bit of spice and the bbq sauce was a thinner vinegary sauce that had a good tang to it. I ordered 1 lb and received what looked like a messy pile of scraps and some pieces that were sliced with the grain so they were tough and chewy. The pork rib I got was from the end and was more like a piece of jerky than a rib. Not sure if I got served leftovers from the previous day because I ordered shortly after opening. Good amount of smoke in the meat buy nothing else positive to say. The coleslaw also tasted a little strange and I tossed it after a bite. Been here a few times now and for whatever reason had no idea that they had been in this spot in front of Hudson's for three years (they use Hudson sausages!). Went through the menu and had some thoughts: * Brisket. It's Texas - so you've got to try the brisket. I'd say the brisket was pretty good - smokey and not too dry. It's not top tier - but it's solid. * Turkey. On the last go the turkey was amazing - smokey, but so tender, soft and juicy. Definitely ranked as some of the best turkey in town. * St. Louis Ribs. These ribs are probably my favorite of the things they do - sweet sauce glazed on this fall of the bone goodness. * Baby Back Ribs. These are two on my list - rubbed to perfection and not quite as sweet as the St. Louis. They lack the meat cap and cartilage on the back, but are tender and tasty. * Potato Salad. This was a thumbs up - great compliment to the BBQ * Street Corn. These have a little kick but were a pleaser as well. All meat comes with some onion, pickles and bread too. EDIT: Forgot to mention - the BBQ sauce has a vinegar base to it so you're going to get a pretty sharp tang to it. The acidity works well with fatty cuts of brisket. I've had a hankering for barbeque and decided to give Vinny's a try. This is a food trailer on Congress, next to a game meat processor. I went around 1PM on a Thursday. The gentleman who greeted me was very kind - even offered me a glass of water while I waited and asked if I wanted the fat shaved off my meat ("Oh, no thank you - I want to spread that all over the white bread like butter"). I ordered the brisket, the ribs, and a side of a potato salad. The meal was ready to go in a speedy five minutes. This is an underrated spot if you love some crispy bark on your meat. Everything was flavorful and juicy. I loved the sauce, too. Man, that brisket was something else - with that sear on the outside and all of the fat juices flowing from every angle. Just ask for "B. Miller" Big Vinny's was probably our biggest off-the radar discovery while visiting Austin. What is essentially a tiny shack on a street corner serves up some incredible barbecue. We took it down and sat next to friend's eating at Torchy's tacos and made them all jealous. The whole Big Vinny experience left me with two really outstanding takeaways. 1. They have some incredible, perfectly seasoned, melt-in-your-mouth brisket. 2. As good as the food is the side of friendly banter from V. Miller, the man serving things up behind the counter. He is related to Big Vinny (who also apparently manages gentlemen's clubs) and an all-around nice guy to chat with. When I woke up this morning, the first thing that came to my mind was BBQ. I was a mindless zombie with an intense meat craving combing through yelp on the comfort of my couch to find the next BBQ place that I can attack. While searching for a bit, the holy grail finally appeared to me in the form of Big Vinny's BBQ. It was at that moment that I grabbed my keys and headed off to the wonderland. But little did I know, Satan's asshole was leaking that day and the heat was pounding at me. But that did not stop my hungry soul while I drove to the wonderland in my car, butt scorching from the seat and hands avoiding anything that looked like metal. The service: The service is exactly what you would get at a food truck. You walk up to the window and then Big Vinny say in a jolly manner: "What can I get yah?" with a smile on his face. (This is how my brain interpreted it and may not reflect what actually happened) My only issue was that there was not a garbage can outside. Please put one out so I can do my citizens duty. The Food: FRITO PIE: As I opened up the to-go container, a bright light shined from it and what I saw was a reflection of my life. It was a meat galore with brisket, sausage, beans, fritos, and cheese. The brisket was great and the pieces I had seemed like it was a fattier cut. The sausage was also fantastic. As I bit into the sausage, the meat juice practically exploded from it. That's what I wanted to feel, a real Niagra Falls flowing in my mouth. My only wish with the Frito Pie was that I wish it was a bit more warmed up and the cheese slightly melted. POTATO SALAD: The potato salad is grainer than others. I prefer a smoother potato salad, but this one stands on its own two feet. PORK RIBS: THIS WAS nslfnsd2mp3dp23. That's how I felt when I bit into the rib. I actually might've malfunctioned in real life for a split second. The meat just came off the bone. It was both juicy and delicious. I highly recommend checking out the BBQ here. My wife and I were visiting from Oregon and were wanting some good BBQ but didn't feel like waiting a cpl hours in a line. Stopped by Big Vinny's cart and was blown away. The owner was really cool, he had us sample some pork belly he was trying out and it was amazing. The brisket was done perfect and the jalapeño cheese sausage was delicious.
