My husband and I took my father-in-law here for dinner recently and it was ok.
Ironstone Grill is inside the Marshes Golf Club. We went during their off season (late March) and so they had a limited food menu. I was somewhat disappointed by this because I reviewed their menu online and was really looking forward to their salmon with grilled veggies, but this wasn't part of their limited menu, and I didn't know that their full menu wasn't available until we arrived (it was not indicated on their website).
At any rate, I ended up ordering the Springtime Goat Cheese Salad ($15) and added a Cajun chicken breast (additional $7). The salad was mixed greens, dried apricots, dried cranberries, sunflower seeds, praline walnuts and goat cheese. I asked for the balsamic dressing on the side and it arrived as requested. The menu said that the salad comes with a pita, but I didn't get one :( Overall the salad was good, but I felt that it was something I could have put together myself at home. When I eat out, I like my meal to have something special that isn't easily replicated at home. That was not the case with my salad. However, I liked that the chicken was real chicken breast. It was lean and nicely seasoned. It wasn't greasy or oily, so I liked that. I hate it when restaurants drench stuff in oil, so I'm glad they didn't do that here. The greens were fresh, no wilted pieces, and the walnuts and sunflower seeds were not rancid. I enjoyed the salad, but I felt that it wasn't anything too special.
My husband got the Margherita Pizza ($15) and added bacon (additional $3). It looked ok. It looked like a regular thin crust pizza. I didn't have any, but he enjoyed it.
My father-in-law got the soup of the day ($6) which was a tomato soup and the Marshes Burger ($16) and added bacon (additional $2). He expected to get his soup as an appetizer, but ended up getting his soup at the same time as his burger and fries. He said the burger was good and he liked the soup.
I had some fries and they were ok. They were crispy and not mealy. They were regular cut fries, which I like better than wedges or thick cut fries, but shoestring fries remain my favourite.
Service was friendly. Waters were refilled frequently.
The dining area is clean and modern looking. It's well lit and quite spacious. During warmer weather there's a nice wraparound patio where you can dine.
I would return during their regular season when they are serving their full menu.
The restaurant is open to the public and you don't have to belong to the golf club to eat there. There is free parking on-site. read more
