I called ahead to inquire and we were directed to overflow parking. Within 7 minutes, a free shuttle picked us up to take us to the main lodge where there was a large line up for tickets. It moved quickly and we had our cards in hand within 15 min. We walked to the tube park to pick up our tubes and used our cards to get through a gate that leads to a walking conveyor sort of like those moving walkways at the airport. The conveyor took us up the hill where 5-6 tube lanes were open each with an attendant. The hardest part is navigating past all the people who bunch up at the first 3 lanes rather than walk a few extra feet to lanes 8 or 9. We asked if they were allowing doubles or triples where we could go down as a family of 3 holding on to each other's tubes, but due to extremely icy conditions and the speed travelled, we were only allowed Single rides. There are black mats to slow you down and bumpers to catch you from crashing at the bottom. We even tried a spin where the attendant will push you with a twist so you'll go the entire way down in a spiral. It was hard to stand up after that, so I only did the spin once! We were there about 2.5-3 hours and were exhausted after 7 runs. Definitely going again!

Like many people who grew up in Calgary, I took lessons here when I was little, and then in 6th grade when everyone went on a ski trip. It felt a lot bigger then. The Park itself is actually pretty comprehensive - the regular runs, the bunny hill, and the board park are just a tiny part of it. They have bobsleds on which you can do bobsled runs, and ski jump towers, and a decent route of cross-country ski trails. The lodge is pretty nice. They have some of the best fries and hot cocoa that I've tried from any ski hill around. The rental shop is decent and fast, and very comprehensive. And the gear shop isn't bad either. They do make their own snow. It isn't unusual to glance over as you drive by and see the snow-makers on at full blast. Made snow packs more easily and gets icy faster, but let's face it: a tumble here isn't going to take you very far. It's obvious just by looking at it that COP is not for seasoned skiiers. There are mountains an hours drive away with countless runs on varied terrain. But that's not what it's supposed to be. It's more of a training hill. This is the place I would take a new skiier or snowboarder or a kid, a place where they would actually enjoy themselves. It's also a good place to go and get some practise runs in if you don't have the time to make it out of the city. So I say: Long Live COP and skiing in Calgary!

The Palliser was a great location for all things Stampede especially the parade. We met one of the restaurant managers who showed us around and even got us great seats on the street for the parade (thanks Sultan!). We did have rooms overlooking multiple train tracks and we could hear the train all night which isn't as romantic as one may think but the lighting in our room was almost non existent. Bed was great! and a shout out to Darren - not sure what department he was from but he was Johnny on the spot helping us with everything from hangars to luggage racks to ice. The spa treatment was fabulous but opted to stay out of the pool as it was noisy from all the little kids. Fairmonts are wonderful and they did an amazing job with all the cowboys and activities going on. so close to restaurants and fun. I'll be back.

I did not get a chance to try the restaurant, but it looked very nice and upscale. What really stood out was the location. It was centrally located and made it easy to walk over to Scotiabank Arena to catch a Flames game, and there were plenty of food options nearby as well. Overall a really convenient and comfortable stay. Would definitely recommend it if you are visiting the area for work or a game.

I liked the Nepresso coffee machines in the room. The coffee was delicious. We also liked the daily breakfast, they had cereal, bread, bagels, a few hot items, oatmeal, eggs, fruit, and yogurt. And coffee and hot chocolate. They also had the coffee and hot chocolate offered in that room 24/7 which is nice. I would recommend this hotel but be mindful of the parking fee. I am guessing that is normal for downtown.

Has been fixed up some and bills itself as a "boutique" hotel which isn't true. This tag justifies a higher price but it's a misnomer. The Boutique designation suggests an interesting vibe. Stayed there two nights during Stampede because closer places were already booked. Only choose it if the price is right. There are many other comparable choices. We thought it was going to be hipper than it was.

This place is really weird…read more Seems like it is a converted apartment building. Would probably be fine if i was staying for an extended stay. Kitchenette in the room. Most of the place was newly finished but some of the furniture was crap, i feel like they might have found some of it on Craigslist from a creepy guy with too many cats.

The Nuvo Hotel & Suites is not your typical hotel experience. And I mean that in every positive way…read morepossible. The hotel is located right in downtown Calgary, within walking distance from all the amenities we needed (truth be told, that included the shopping market and a liquor store, but I'm sure your mileage will vary). It earns its designation as a Boutique Hotel from its unique design. The hotel was originally an apartment (condo?) building and converted to nightly suites. What does this mean? It means that each suite is laid out as NOT-hotel-eque as you can get; specifically: they have a full (and pots, pans, dishes & cutlery stocked-) kitchen, in-suite laundry washer/dryer, dishwasher and beautiful open design. I could go on and on about how amazing the room looked (and how wonderful the in-floor heating felt), but I just cannot get over the in-suite kitchen. I had no idea how much of a difference that makes when staying somewhere; a huge chunk of the cost of travelling is having to eat out for every single meal. At the Nuvo, you have a Safeway right across the street and the freedom to cook whatever you want to eat right in your own room. The bed's were amazing, each room has its own little balcony (not much of a view...but nice enough to sit on and enjoy the sounds of downtown & fresh air) and we have spent a considerable amount of time hunting for whatever pillows they use there - they're that comfortable. All of this, and their prices are still affordable. They cost more than a typical Super 8, but it's worth it for the décor alone. We managed to get a good deal, and combined with taking advantage of the kitchen, what you save in eating out could easily put them at the same price as any generic hotel chain. The only trouble we had was checking in after hours - we were given the wrong door code. We managed to get a hold of someone who gave us the right code; and we were good to go from there. So if you are checking in after-hours, double check you have both the outer door code AND your room door code. That hiccup aside, the Nuvo is still the only hotel I'll stay at in Calgary.
