I went to a big name, 4 year UC school and I came here to take care of some pre-reqs afterwards. I have had the BEST professors here who actually care about students and learning. The administrative staff is also very helpful, and this palce even gives otu FREE transcipts (I have to pay 15 bucks to get them from my alma mater). Plus, parking is way cheap, I used to pay $10/day at UCLA, and it's $30/quarter here. read more

Classes are 50-50 with many exceptional but again, many incompetent professors. Parking is terrible, cafeteria food might as well be prison food, financial aid office has the worst staff, bookstore and library are awesome...generally the deans and the upper management are terrible, architecture and landscaping is phenomenal, and definitely a huge fan of the coffee cart, and lastly, the students are spoiled. I've been here for 3 years now, and I love telling anyone that i'm on the 12 year plan. They have some pretty cool class choices. If you get the chance, and aren't easily offended I would definitely recommend taking a History class with Prof. Welchel. He's very outspoken, but gives you really good food for thought. It has a state of the art theater which opened in 2007, and continues to put up wonderful shows. it's tons of fun! parking is a joke. there is almost never room at the beginning of the semesters. On your first day of class, if you aren't there about an hour and a half early you're not going to be to class on time. It also has a new business center--cool school~!! read more

I myself am not even a student here but felt the need to provide some input about their campus police department. I was told over the phone that their fingerprinting was a much lower cost than what it actually was when I came in ($75). The woman who worked with me at the front was incredibly rude and unprofessional. She stated that he paperwork I provided had the cost obviously stated and that if I would have taken the time to actually read it I would have had a clear idea, that it could not be more straightforward. I felt that it was incredibly unfair to be talked down to and treated as though I'm stupid when I was simply told a different price by someone else. Again, I can't speak for too much about other departments, but I would just be mindful when coming to this spot for help. read more

So frustrated. 2 stars instead of one because the two staff members presenting the orientation were great and this one guy at the fafsa office I was on the phone with sounded like he genuinely cares and wants to help you out. For being classified as "a location where one can complete classes to satisfy certain requirements", they satisfy that requirement, but no more. For the classes that state facts with little to no room for interpretation, the majority, if not all, of the staff will simply read from a PowerPoint presentation without being creative. However, classes with artistic merit are more open in what work one can produce. This college also appears to discriminate those that live outside the state or do not live within the state as of the time they register. Their paperwork was also full of loopholes, which I managed to circumvent easily but they would not honor and immediately closed the loophole. For doing this and for providing strange residency information which I could not easily explain using their automated registry system, the I received a hold on my account which could not easily be removed. The quality of the faculty is highly variable. Many of them seem to put on happy masks that melt off when one says something unfavorable to them, but those in the art department encourage creativity. If one is looking for an academic institute where one can be lazy and still pass the course to fulfill requirements for higher universities, then come here--I became an extremely prolific artist while I was here (I managed to output at least 3 pictures per class) and even entered the juried art exhibitions. But one should be a California resident before attempting to register, lest one become bound in administrative red tape. read more

Not a bad place to get your education in terms of wanting to transfer to a four year or just getting a certificate or associates degree. There are many subjects you can major or minor in. As far as teachers, it's a mix between bad and good. I've had both positive and negative experiences so it really depends. It takes Cypress College 2 minutes to print RUSH transcripts. There's a reason why it's called rush/emergency. Irvine Valley? 3 hours. Wow... how ridiculous is that? Admin needs to know how to take care of their students first, than being lazy and caring about their pay and pensions. Plus they like to go by the book. Pretty ridiculous when I head stories that with just one sign or word they can allow anything to happen. I'm not talking about allowing a F student to get As, but more like helping someone in extenuating circumstances who got screwed over by some events, get by. I come back from Iraq and see that I had an F because I had to leave in the middle of school. I even informed them. What happens? They refuse to help me out. It took me 2 years to try to fix this. Nice facilities at the business school and a serviceable selection of online courses are held back by an uninspiring faculty. The classrooms at BSTIC are beautiful, and the equipment here is nicer than what we had during my undergrad years at the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley. Software on the computers is first-rate, and parking is very easy if you can get over the fact that free parking isn't a god-given right. (Let me shed some tears over your $2 parking fees right here) The number and quality of online courses seems to be growing as funding comes back post Prop 30, and instructors become more comfortable with Blackboard. I appreciate that some instructors like Massaro are considerate enough to be very flexible in hybrid courses. With the exception of the Instructor Huie, who made Individual Income Tax interesting, pretty much every course I've taken here (in the ACCT and CIM departments) is by-the-book and on the dry side. While pragmatic degree-seekers might appreciate the ease and simplicity of this approach, it can bore someone who is approaching these classes as a lifelong learner. read more

I took Chinese classes here over a period of 3 semesters. The classes were fun and I learned a lot. They weren't too expensive either due to the school being a JC. The classes weren't as difficult as something you'd find at a UC either. Still, I found that the teacher cared. It was cool to have classmates from all ages. I think the youngest in my class was 12. The oldest was probably in the 60s. Overall it was a fun, relaxed course that still taught a lot. I also used the tennis courts here. There are 8 courts. Daily parking permits are $2. You should check the class schedule before coming to make sure courts aren't being used for classes. The courts themselves are fine. The lights are set to turn on automatically at about 7PM. I wish there wasn't such a big opening between the courts, though. Not good for players such as myself who are prone to hitting balls onto other courts. The bookstore itself is also a little small. The one at PCC is bigger. Maybe because PCC is a bigger school so they have more classes? I don't know. read more

3 Stars for not being as aesthetically pleasing as Riverside Community College. I mean, Riverside sucks, right? The EOPS program here is amazing, as are a few of the teachers (Ms. Alvarez, Mr. Marmolejo). The Model United Nations team is fun, but thus far it doesn't seem like we're taking it seriously enough. In such an affluent community, I don't understand how a community college could be so underfunded and so... small. I see a need for more variety in classes in terms of subject and time, and I also see a need for nicer rooms. The place is a dump! I'm sorry to say. But I really am grateful that I live a 5 minute walk away from the campus. It's convenient. read more

For IT Certification classes, staff and facilities are great. I enjoyed studying with Mohan Reddy, John Beaty and Carolina Kusoy. They are pleasant and seem to want you to succeed:) As for the testing center, you may want to take your business elsewhere. Thinking they need to either hire staff who are helpful, or just create a phone recording for incoming callers directing them to a website. (-1*) IVC career Counselors are helpful. IVC used to be my favorite school with lots of good memories until I had a few experiences with the admission office. I had to contact the admission office twice this semester and both times, the staffs at the admission office are very RUDE!! They make you feel useless and hopeless. They even ignored my email regarding important issue - yes might not be important to them. (not responded over a month) I am not expecting anything like good/nice service from here, but yes, they are not even minimum polite and always make sure to ruin my day whenever I have to visit/call them, making me feel like I shouldn't go here. Only if I could, I want to change school to saddleback and I tried, but they are somehow connected, so I cannot. (can take classes there but I am under IVC) I got a number from this office(this guys was good) to call another staff in the office, and when I called, he was like "so what? we got long lines." so I didn't know what to say. WHY DID I CALL THEN? One call to Saddleback will solve my issue because it is important to clear asap and i know it is just one click that they have to do to save students, but here at IVC, I have to wait for a week to do the exact same thing. (I don't want to be specific because I am afraid they know it's me and treat me even worse... but time matters hugely for this issue, and it shows IVC doesn't care about students' success) They also gave me wrong information. The rules provided online were very ambiguously written so I wanted to make sure (important to me), and one of the ladies say confidently this is this, saying I am not right and i will not have any good chance, hoping to make me feel hopeless, which came out to be completely wrong now. SHE WAS WRONG! SHE JUST WANTED TO SEE ME DISSAPOINTED AND BEING SAD HUH? They don't know anything... don't trust them. They are not willing to help you at all.. useless too call/visit them but only hurt feelings. But what can we do? sometimes we need help anyway. Even though I only contacted them twice, I feel like I am on the blacklist or something. (yeah, that's how bad I am treated) I am usually a person who would not write a bad or just any review for anything, but the IVC admission office really upsets me. Be aware.. I wish I never have to contact them again. My eyes literally got red after call because I felt completely ignored. this might be my personal experience, but I HATE IVC ADMISSION OFFICE. If you enroll IVC, you will also have access to register in classes at Saddleback College (a nearby community college), which is a great advantage because you have a greater selection of classes, sections, and professors, and are more likely to get the class you want. read more

It was 1998 and IVC was in transition from a phone call in to online Internet registration system. I added my classes via the brand new buggy web system and then removed a programming class by Rich Yunke a week later. There was no paper trail since everything was going online. Got on the deans list a second time that semester. At the end of the semester I was shocked to get an F from the programming class I had removed and been reimbursed for. I went to the front office and they said I could only get it removed by Mr. Yunke. They were absolutely no help. Staffed by teenagers. So I made an appointment with Yunke. Met up with him in his office. Guy was high on weed or something. He refused to remove the F for a class I had never even showed up to or even knew was still on the roll. I checked the online system and it said I was never enrolled in that class. Guy was very rude and almost kicked me out of his office. So with 120units completed and prior 3.9gpa I walked away from IVC and never returned to college. It taught me a powerful lesson in life that college is for profit adult daycare run by people that don't want to be there. read more

Well, if you are planning on going to the IVC theater, the Theater/Operations Manager, Karen Martin, ruins their theater sales for the performers and the school. Imagine for a large theater group wanting to come to this theater on an off night with as many as 20-25 people, she has the tickets being sold on a discount site for $8.50, yet Karen offers them to us for $10 a ticket??? Our large theater group works with all of the OC small and larger theater companies and this women completely ruined the opportunity to work with us in the future. To insult our intelligence, with her group rate being more then a published wholesale rate just showed us she is not there to sell tickets and show good customer service and shouldn't be left in charge! We won't be dealing with this theater again or their Operations Manager, Karen Martin! read more

I went here to take French classes in order to complete my Master's Degree at a different institution. They had plenty of French courses at various times of the day and the teachers were really reasonable/knowledgeable. The classes were fairly easy, but that could be because I had taken French courses in high school and because I speak French with my family etc. The French department also does a number of events, such as French movie night, language clubs, etc. to help immerse students in the language as well. Their language lab is great! I really like that I could go in and practice languages without all the garbage distractions that are going on in the other computer labs. They also provide headphones with microphones so you could complete homework from the worst textbooks I have ever had the misfortune to have to deal with. Compared to other colleges (both community colleges and universities) their admissions/administration office was easy to deal with. This was a plus because I work full time and attend school and I can't really take time off work to come deal with administrative shenanigans. This was helpful because in order to sign up for courses with pre-reqs you have to prove you've taken the other class. The only downer about this school is that when you go to Saddleback there is no easy credit transfer between the two schools so you have to deal with filling out forms etc. I have to say that IVC made it easier to transfer credits than Saddleback did. Now that I have finished my MA degree I am going to be returning here for a Certificate Program so I'll probably update my review for that program. For those curious about parking: parking here isn't all that great but it's a lot better than any of the schools I've gone to throughout my various degrees. If you are in need of using the bathroom, do not use the one in the IVC Library. I don't know about the men's restroom, but the toilets in women's restroom seem to have permanent yellow stains on them which is absolutely disgusting. I don't think the janitors even care to clean that. There are better and more cleaner bathrooms on campus. also the older Asian library staff member has a rude way of speaking when telling people that the library is closing. read more

I first came to this campus in 2008 and got a accounting certificate to add to my bachelors degree. Over the last few years, I have taken classes here for fun and personal enrichment. I like the small campus feel to the school and many of the classes they offer. One good example is the entrepreneurial program that was develop a few yeas ago. I think any business student that goes to IVC should look into taking a few of those classes that can offer real world learning that often lacks in college business classes. read more

This is a nice college and I had a few very good professors. Some of them were also happy people, eager to teach and very professional. This is not usually the case at other colleges (I went to 3). Run do not walk from Lee Anne Krusemark's classes She offered a class in screenwriting editing and promised a professional script editing job, including grammar corrections and a review that would take two weeks. After weeks and weeks without any word from her I e-mailed her many times until she finally sent a review that looked like the work of a child. I know that the two other people in the class also had problems with her. I complained to the Dean's office in detail and they still hired her once again to teach classes. I believe Lee Anne's integrity is somewhat questionable and I am now feeling the same about The Irvine Valley College Ext. program read more

Very unprofessional when hiring faculty.They called me for an interview. It was pouring cats and dogs so I called and left three voicemails. They never emailed a map and they didn't call until three days later to let me know they filled the positions. I hate the fact that they hire so many part-time counselors, who are not professional at all. These people are just impatient, and they do not understand the transfer policies as well as full-time counselors. There's a counselor named Annie Stromquist. This woman is a part-time counselor. I told her that I used to be a student at a UC campus, and I would like to transfer to another UC campus. I wanted to know what I should do. She gave me some TAG documents and told me to read them over. I told her that I was given these documents before. She would not listen and just told me to read them over. Finally, I met a full-time counselor (a blond). She's competent enough to bring out a folder and help me verify the kinds of limitations that other UC campuses on the students who already attended a UC campus. This is the BIG DIFFERENCE between a full-time counselor and a part-time counselor. Competent vs INCOMPETENT :( read more

I think it's pretty ridiculous that yelp has IVC has a place for people to review.. cuz you know... it's a school. Well, I think IVC is not a bad place at all. The professors here actually have a passion to teach. Teachers here beomce your friends, and school can become very interesting. Students here are pretty dope too. You meet a variety of people here! Your classmates can range from a 14-year old high school student to a 50-year old mortgage broker. Class sizes are note bad. People say it is hard to get classes.... but that's not true. If you're proactive, you can get anything you want. Petition, email professors, or add yourself to the prioirty add list if there are no spaces avaliable in the class that you want. If you really want to take the class, I'm sure you'll get your way in . GE classes are a bit harder to get in tho... Parking is horrible. Summer parking is wonderful because there are no one at IVC during summer. Fall and Spring is a whole other story..... You literally have to fight for any parling spot avaliable. Sometimes, you'll have to park on the dirt ground where they have pumpkins during Halloween. The campus police are not good at giving out parking tickets. My friend had a valid parking permit on his car, but the police gave him a ticket and said he couldn't do anything about it... read more

so, I was waiting for a status on my application and I did not receive anything (from my experience it usually takes a week to 10 days in order to process and respond, even less in school like OCC) and when I could actually talk to someone in the office after calling for several days, asking why it is taking so long to process something this simple, her respond was "Then why don't you take your classes somewhere else?!" This was not what I was expecting to hear. I mean I understand that some schools are understaffed and everything but I really didn't like the rude way everyone deals with you in admissions office. I received my associates degree from IVC in 2014 and was able to transfer to Cal State Fullerton. Since then I have taken a couple elective courses to complete my undergraduate unit requirements. I would recommend this college to anyone, the classes are flexible and they have a lot of resources for students success. Make sure to meet with counselors to ensure you are on track. read more

This place is a joke. The hide the parking permit stations so visitors can't find them, then slap them a 38 dollar fine for a 2 dollar pass. I was there for soccer try outs and we were not told that we needed parking passes, and the way they had us drive to the field, there weren't any permit machines. I told the school this in my appeal and they still decided to make me pay. Hope they enjoy counting pennies :) read more
