I needed to get my cat In last minute and I was thankfully able to get her in here. I even had to cancel and then reschedule again on the same day and the receptionist was very nice and worked out a way for me to get squeezed in. The vet herself, Dr Hill, was very kind and gentle with my very freaked out kitty. The vet tech was also very kind when my scared kitty tried to climb her. Overall, I paid around $130 for a wellness check where I provided a stool sample (ran tests), body exam, probiotics, and antibiotic. I felt it was pretty reasonable. Our neighbor's construction crew mistakenly surrendered our outdoor kitten to the Irvington Pet Clinic on Thursday afternoon. When I was informed of this by our neighbor while I was out searching for her on Friday, I promptly went over to retrieve our kitty. Their lobby is currently closed so I called and spoke to their staff while standing outside of the building. After providing a description of our kitten, the woman I was speaking to remarked that our kitty was "too sweet to be an outside kitty." I informed them that she has a home and we wanted her returned to us. When staff came to the door, they made false claims of flea infestation and alluded to neglectful behavior on our part. I informed them that I had already started medical care, flea treatment, and had an appointment with another clinic to have her spayed and to obtain the necessary documentation for an outdoor cat. I provided dated, photo evidence of ownership but was denied any option to see or take home our kitten. They then tried to say that maybe the kitten in my photos wasn't the kitten they had, even though I told them I confirmed the identity of the kitten with my neighbor. I was then informed the our kitten had been surrendered to a shelter of which they would not give me the location. We were taking all the necessary steps to ensure our kitten's wellbeing and were denied the return of our pet based solely on their opinion of having an outdoor cat. The staff, especially the facility's manager, lied and changed their story several times, treated me horrendously, and would not return our kitten or give us information to bring her home. We are absolutely devastated by the theft of our kitten and hurt by the treatment we received as fellow animal lovers. It is not their right to remove our pet from it's already happy home. The one thing they were right about was that our kitten, Mew, is sweet and that is because she was shown love at her home. I will never support this business and will loudly share my experience with other pet owners who may consider this as a facility for their pets. The silver lining of Mew potentially finding another forever home is certainly not lost on me. But I am livid at the treatment I received and disgusted by their pet ownership "gate keeping" behavior. read more

We have been bringing our dog here for 2 years for shots - monthly for nail trims. Since they changed staff, during Covid-19, they now want us to drug the dog to bring him in. I asked if he ever bit anyone and they said no. He is a very nervous dog, doesn't like riding in vehicles or strangers. Their solution was to drug him to the point that didn't eat for 2 days (did I mention he goes once a month?) Elizabeth, the vet tech, was great with him. KUDOS to her!!! I wish I could get her to make house visits. :) I do not recommend the new staff, although I have never met them, only phone calls. They blew me off for a week, saying someone will return my call. I called Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and finally on Friday someone talked to me. They will see him for his yearly shots (we don't need to drug him) AND test him for the drugs they are giving him - more $$$$$. They suggested behavioral management so he loves going to the vet - WHAT? He's a good dog, we will keep him just the way he is. If he is nervous about going to the doctor, well so am I. I am hoping to find a new vet that doesn't think drugging a dog is necessary for a nail trim. read more

The staff are super nice without a doubt. I have three small dogs and their yearly exam and shots added up to $850. Then one went in for their yearly dental to the tune of $530. Charges were not fully explained nor was I advised of those that were not completely necessary. My expectation is a full breakdown of fees and a post surgical consultation by the Doctor. Neither happened. I'm still in shock over the $850 for the yearly exam. Your bedside manner is subpar. You ask me to spend a large amount of money I expect my hand to be held. I was not actually a client here but applied for a job after moving to the area recently . I spoke with the Manger Debbie who seemed pretty nice on the phone and everything went well so she brought me in for a tour and to meet everyone . I came from a vet clinic so walking in to what I did I was appalled. They are dumping pills out and counting them on a dirty counter which is also being used for a computer, your cell phone , eating snacks and all kinds of other things that should be nowhere near medications . I also noticed they do not have a single hand towel or actual towel in the clinic ? This one im not sure how you work around . Animals poop and pee and vomit and all kinds of things and I just don't understand how you don't have ANY not even hand clothes to sanitize the rooms after a patient . They use a paper towel for that.... I watched the doctor man handel a sick cat and squeeze her bladder so hard from the outside the cat peed blood urine on the table . Not to mention this cat was being scuffed the entire time which is extremely unnecessary considering the animal was not aggressive or fractious at all . The tech went and grabbed a syringe to suck some off the table and use for a sample and then accidentally sprayed it into the doctor's eyes while he was doing his exam ... she then ran it out of the room never even putting the cap back on the needle .. The doctor also is so unprofessional and does not care for extensive background info on your pet just wants to know basic questions which is not what you went to school all those years for . He also uses profanity during the entire visit . The tech who I was following around did not once interact with the pet at all . There was no loving compassionate care for these animals at all and the environment was completely filthy and appalling and smelled of urine and feces . The manager told me she would hire me in at 16 an hour and give me full time hours and then all of a sudden she never responded to me again and ghosted me completely . I'm assuming she is crazy and does not have the authority to do the things she promises and this whole entire clinic needs to be completely reevaluated before it gets shut down or has another law suit . There is absolutely no organization, no cleanliness, no communication and absolutely no commitment to the job you signed up to do which is care for animals . I would absolutely never take any of my pets to this clinic and im just shocked that a place like this can be operating still . There's alot more but this should be enough to get the point across . Im hoping something can change here for the sake of this nice little community and their furry babies . read more

I've only been here twice, once for a general check up and another time for my cat's yearly shots. Both woman who worked with my cat were very friendly to us and him. They made sure he was comfortable before shots and he did surprisingly well. (he usually doesn't like strangers at all and tends to be defensive.) I've brought my neurotic dog here multiple times, and they've dealt with him/our situation really well. See, he hates going to the vet...he hyperventilates and starts losing hair the second he goes through the door. He also hates other dogs (but he likes cats). Each time we've gone, the clinic has given me the "all clear" and allowed me to hustle Mr. Bad Dog straight into an exam room to avoid confrontations. They also let the clinic cat come in to visit him. The vet enters, takes a gander at the dog and his teeth as the dog nervously paces the room, I then apply the muzzle (he'll bite ME if he's scared enough, and I don't want to risk it), and the prodding and inoculating begins. Quick, efficient, and thorough, in no time Bad Dog is back on the ground, muzzle off, eating treats from the vet tech. And acting like a Good Dog. This vet solved our problem of having a dog that sheds constantly, sneezes constantly, "snots" onto your pants with his itchy snout, and digs at his belly. First, the dog got a steroid shot. Then, he was on steroids for about 2 weeks. Now, he just takes some doggie antihistamines each day. He's like a different dog. Much easier to clean up after, much less annoying (I hate dog snot), and MUCH more comfortable. Also, the red patches on his belly went away and the fur on his belly grew back. Thanks so much, Irvington Pet Clinic! On 3/25/13 I brought my 2 cats in for rabies vaccines, exams, and dewormer. The doctor was thorough with both of them and gave them an injection so they wouldn't get giant lumps at the vaccine injection sites (they've had this problem in the past). The dewormer is topical, which is great so the cats don't gag and foam dewormer everywhere. He was very complementary towards my monstrous cats...because they're the best cats ever. I also brought in a sweet, fluffy stray (Rags) that I've been feeding since around Thanksgiving. As it turns out, SHE is a neutered male. He has only 2 wobbly teeth left, and he tested positive for FIV (cat AIDS). Dr Schnarr and the vet tech were really compassionate about the whole thing. He did recommend euthanasia to protect the other cats in the neighborhood, but he gave me a week to sort things out and try to find placement for Rags. He stressed that FIV+ cats should not be outdoors. Education and advocacy is an important part of being a veterinarian and I really respect that Dr. Schnarr doesn't gloss over this part of his job. I picked up two dogs running on Shadeland. They were the nearest vet. I called when I got in the parking lot and explained the situation. I wanted to see if the dogs were chipped. I wanted so badly to like this place. It is close, and our first visit was good. There are basically three models of vet... Places where the vet owns the business, places where the vet is a frustrated human doc (like places near downtown Indy on College), and places owned by some front office business who could care less about cost or the animals (look - if it places your pet's care out of your ability to pay, it's basically condemning your pet eventually - you're gonna have to make hard choices for most folks, right?) Unfortunately, Irvington is the last model. A revolving door of visiting vets, delays in care because there's no doc in house, massive expense (I did an afternoon of comparison shopping - a test that others charge $150 for was $300). You are not usually allowed to talk directly with the vet, having to play 'telegraph' through the front office... The vets are often rude and stand-offish because they are over booked. The last straw was that we spoke with a vet friend who knew the operation and asked why they had a problem holding vet staff and why costs were so high. Apparently, there is a push at Irvington to get animals on expensive food and maintenance drugs for profit and anyone who refuses, doesn't make the cut for permanent staff. If you're looking for holistic care at a decent price, I'd suggest looking up Emerson. If you want a 'farm vet' that's cheap but not equipped to handle complex issues, look out on Brookville. If you want to pay 2-3x, wind up on $100/bag food and $300/month in drugs, never get to talk to the same vet, if you get to talk to a vet, and have trouble scheduling basic procedures, go here. read more

They are double if not triple the price for services i.e. 968.00 for routine shots and test for 2 dogs vs. 300.00 to 400.00 every where else I have checked. I couldn't find one fault in this place even if I tried. After taking my cat to other vets for her hyperthyroidism, I always left feeling confused. Irvington Pet Clinic took the time to explain in detail her condition, what she needed and what her future looked like. They also cared for another one of my kitties. When my cat suffering from hyperthyroidism worsened, they were there for my wife and I as we had to make the horrible decision to put her down. The staff was kind and supportive through the entire process. They let us grieve and didn't make us feel bad for it. After about a week we received the most heartfelt card from them. Thank you for doing right for Chiron. She rests easy because of you. read more

I brought my cat Sage in today for a visit. In March of this year I had the most horrible experience with a vet near downtown that resulted in the death of one my cats. I vowed to never visit a vet again. When Sage got sick last night, I knew I had to seek treatment. It was with heavy trepidation that I made the appointment with you and I am so glad I did. She made no attempt to socialize with my dogs and put them at ease before she started poking and proading on them, so my dogs were very nervous. One of my dogs she said was mean, all 5 lbs. no teeth of him. I would not recommend this business to anyone. read more
