I would highly recommend Leo's Vet Care to anyone in the Indy area with a pet. I have quite the... difficult cat, and they are so good with her. Ophelia isn't the friendliest, especially when she knows she's going to the vet. She gets stressed about having to go, and then I get stressed because she's stressed. The staff at Leo's does a great job at calming her down (which helps me calm down) and doing what they need to do. Ophelia has even let a couple of the Vet Techs give her some pets, which is definitely not a normal thing she lets strangers do. I've had to take Ophelia in a couple times for an emergency, and both times they were able to fit us in same day. They did a great job of going over what was going on with her and what our options were. They also assured me that what she was going through wasn't caused by me, which was a relief and a great thing to hear in the moment. They even called a couple days later to check on how Ophelia was recovering. Overall, the staff at Leo's is so friendly, accommodating, and you can tell they truly care about each pet that comes through their doors. read more

When they had two locations, the one on main street was amazing. Ever since closing that location and apparently letting go the vet and staff there, I've had mixed care at the original/remaining location. Some techs have wrong billing information, some vets glazing over important information, assuming you can afford all recommendations, and despite multiple follow up visits, my pets aren't getting better. Their lifetime vaccine policy was excellent but is no longer offered to new patients. They handle the pets with care, even reactive ones. Miss Daisy and I both enjoyed the experience from start to finish. Miss Daisy is the world's cutest American Bulldog/Boxer, in case you were wondering. I'll add Daisy photos to this review for kicks. The personal touch at Leo's Pet Care takes the experience to the next level. You can't help but leave knowing they truly care about the health of your pet and client education. In Daisy's case, we had a yearly check up, nail clipping, heart worm test and two non-cancerous tumors tested. All good for my "80 yr. old" pup. I have been taking all 6 furbabies to Leo's for 6+ years. If you are reading my review to decide to go here, let me be straight up. If you want a vet who will hold your hand and hug you and coddle you....this maybe isn't the vet for you. However, if you want someone who does not bullshit you and will tell you straight up how it is (which can be very helpful if you are an anxious person like me), then keep reading. Bluntness and a dry sense of humor may translate harshly to some--but Dr. M has treated my kiddos and I with nothing but kindness and care (I also like enjoy his personality). He answers every dumb question I have in the middle of the night via email and is always accommodating with appointments if someone needs squeezed in. When dropping them off for a procedure, I am never worried about their health or safety. Vaccines for life is a pretty epic deal. And pricing-wise for other things...he is very aware of how expensive it is. Keeping up with preventative care saves you more in the long run (hence the incentive to keep up with your annual visits....). The vet techs are more excited to see my kiddos than any other person in the world, and are always friendly and loving. Also...Leo's has more than one vet (and they have for a while). So maybe try out Dr. J if you're concerned. We've been seeing her recently and she is also a very lovely vet with similar values and just as excellent. We love Leo's! read more

DO NOT BRING YOUR PET HERE. They are condescending and will berate you at nearly every visit. (Just scroll through these Yelp reviews. Every time someone rates them poorly, the vet replies by basically telling them they're wrong, they're liars and he's right.) They lure you in with their vaccinations for life offer. You think, "Wow. This is amazing." Then, if your dog has an ear infection, they'll say, "I see you haven't been following an ear cleaning regimen." (Hmmm. I've been bringing my dog here for years and you've never spoken to me about an ear cleaning regimen. Way to be a proactive, caring vet. And in that same visit, you clicked your tongue and me, then tried to leave the room without going over what the regimen would be. Again.) You'll bring him in with cancer and he'll say, "Yeah. This is going to be bad. When it comes time to put him down, we may not be able to fit him in for euthanasia in a timely manner and you'll probably have to take him somewhere else. If we're booked with appointments it just can't happen." So I took my dog to a vet he'd never seen to end his life. (Actually, that worked out fine. This vet actually talked to my dog and loved on him and treated him so wonderfully. Leo's Pet Care NEVER did that.) And the upsell. Oh, the upsell! You won't pay for vaccinations, but you will be barraged with strong suggestions for meds and food and overpriced preventative. When I said I would order my heartworm preventative from Amazon because it's so much less expensive, the tech said, "We make a note and remember people who cheat on us." This is a DISGUSTING place who only cares about making money and not about your pet at all. There are so many vets in The north Indy area that care about your pets. This isn't one of them. UPDATE: I have since adopted a new dog and gone to a different vet clinic. I told them that I had previously been to Leo's Pet Care and the vet rolled his eyes and said, "We get a lot of customers who transfer to us from there." read more

After our move from Vermont to Indianapolis, we were establishing a new vet, getting vaccines up to date and doing a well visit. Based on our experience, we will keep Leo's Pet Care as our vet for our Sheltie, Maddie. Things I liked: - before we went to the exam room, I knew what the estimate for the day's charges was going to be. - Maddie was treated well with gentle hands. - When I had something to ask or add, I felt that everyone I would talk to was listening. - I came in with my two kids (2 & 4). I had gone to Leo's Pet Care for five years (since we moved to Indy). They took care of both my pets as far as vaccinations and check ups go. Nothing was ever wrong with either my dog or cat. This morning, my dog had a hematoma in his ear. I called up at 8:30am to bring him in. They told me they had no openings today and that I should bring him to a vet emergency room (which would be uber expensive and they don't know my dog). They refused to fit her in. The bottom line is, the one time I really needed them to help me after five years of loyalty, they sent me somewhere else. So I went somewhere else, and I am never going back to Leo's Pet Care. I needed a new vet for my two kitties after moving to Broad Ripple, so I did what any dedicated Yelper would do: scour the reviews for the best vet around. All signs pointed directly to Dr. Maggnuson. Before I even stepped foot in his office I was impressed. I liked Leo's Pet Care on facebook and was happy to see frequent posts with helpful information about pet care. After following for a few weeks, I made an appointment. As a new patient, my cat's first exam fee was waived. You can't beat that! Leo's Pet Care offers a special where you can get vaccines for the life of your pet for one low rate. I saw it advertised at $69, but when I got there I was charged $89. I was a bit miffed, but since I got the exam for free I didn't press the issue. They were able to get my Uli in for an annual exam quickly. Anni and Dr. Maggnuson took good care of her, and comforted her while she received two vaccines. I was impressed with how gentle Dr. Maggnuson was with my cat. I've had some pretty rough vets, but he came off as very caring. I am very happy to have found my new vet! It's worth the extra drive for me (there are two vets within a 5 minutes drive of my home) because Leo's Pet Care is a new and growing business. Dr. Maggnuson obviously wants to attract new patients and keep their pet's happy! I will tell everyone about the great service I received at Leo's Pet Care! read more

After going here a couple of times, most recently with a sick kitty, I'm convinced that Leo's is one of the best small-animal vets in Indy. He is as good with his human clients as he is with the furry clients, and I appreciate the customer care I receive from all staff members. Thankfully they were able to squeeze us in before the end of the day, and even offered to keep the cat overnight, free of charge, to get all the tests they needed. I thought that was really cool. All of the cat's medical info was on file from our previous visits and made sure to update the records since we were in. Doc Magnusson also had really good insight into how to make life better for the kitty until he started 'feeline' fine. C'mon, I had to... I met Dr. Greg first on Twitter, later at a Social46 event downtown and I really liked him. After my last experience with my previous vet I decided that I really needed to find someone new to take care of Tucker my new rescue. So, we chose to go see Dr. Greg and his team and could not be happier. They are great with Tucker, the team is so friendly and helpful. But the new test came on Nov 2nd, on my birthday I came home from a trip to find my kitty very ill. I took her in to examined right away. Unfortunately she had to be put to sleep, there was no cure for her illness. It was so hard. But, never have I been treated with such kindness and compassion but the entire team. They explained what was wrong, what the options were and were really honest that they could do all kinds of things to try to same Ms Kitty but bottom line she was not going to live. They allowed my all the time I needed and allowed me to hold her as she left. I was one of the hardest decisions to make and to stay and hold her. This team was great, and I can never thank them enough for their kindness, their honesty and their patients. BTW, I drive from 21st street East all the way to 106th St North that is how much I like this clinic. And you will too, they are the best. read more

We found Leo's through online reviews (on Yelp) and realized it's just down the street from us, so we thought we'd give them a chance when our darling pup, Stella, wouldn't stop shaking her head (an mighty ear infection, indeed). I have two mini Dachshunds that mean the world to myself and my teenage sons. A little backstory pre-Leo's: We had some bad experiences at a previous vet from a popular national vet clinic chain. The worst: A comment was made by an emergency vet about "not liking Dachshunds." Let's just say I was thankful that my little girl survived the experience, but I still left in tears. I know it's only human to have preferences, but it is terrible bedside manner to tell a Doxie Mom in the ER with her beloved furbaby that you "don't like Dachshunds." At Leo's, it's wonderful to have a vet that knows how to handle and treat the breed. Doxies have very strong personalities and are extremely loyal and protective of their family. One of my girls did have to be muzzled, but this is for the protection of all involved. And was requested by me. She will eventually get used to the experience and my hope is she will get more comfortable over time. I just did the shots for life - what a fabulous deal!! One of my girls happens to be allergic to certain vaccines and the pre-treatment she received kept any reactions at bay. The pre-treatment was very reasonably priced to my surprise and of course worth every penny! The only thing negative I have to say (which is my personal issue) is that my girls need dentals and it's going to be a total struggle to pay for it. Not to mention I am very nervous about the procedure itself. My heart has been heavy knowing that my girls have to wait for the treatment while I try to earn the funds. I read several reviews before I wrote mine this evening. I noticed one lone poor review from a Yelp user that described Dr. M as being "awkward" and "unfriendly". Dr. M seems to be very soft spoken, but at the same time gets right to the point in an honest way. Perhaps it could be viewed as "awkward" and/or "unfriendly" by some. I call it "tough love for pet parents" or empowerment. All in all, I recommend Dr. M and Leo's. I'm curious to see if Dr. M and staff read these reviews. ;) read more

All four of my cats come to Leo's Pet Care for all their needs, including nail clipping. Dr. Greg is awesome, and he's very passionate about what he does. Full disclosure... Leo's Pet Care is not my current vet clinic. I was going to switch to them a few years ago, because I had a great professional relationship with Dr. Magnusson while working at WTHR. Dr. Magnusson is caring and intelligent, and he was actually the one who told me not to switch vets if I wasn't unhappy with the care I was already receiving. All that said, when emergencies arise, Dr. Magnusson is always there (at all hours) to answer my questions via email, phone, or social media. He's been an excellent second opinion when I've had concerns about my cats. In October, he really went above and beyond to help me through one of the hardest months of my life. One of my cats was diagnosed with cancer. Dr. Magnusson talked with me about my options, and when the day came to say goodbye, Dr. Magnusson and one of his staff members came to my house to put my little girl to sleep. Saying goodbye to a pet is horrible, but having someone who knows you and cares so much about animals there to help you through such a tragedy is so very valuable. I've recommended Dr. Magnusson to many of my friends, and I recommend him and the rest of the staff at Leo's Pet Care to all of you. If I ever decide to leave my current vet, I'll definitely become a client at Leo's Pet Care. read more

I had planned on submitting a 5 star review for Leo's Pet Care over a week ago. After the incident I just experienced, I feel compelled to do so immediately. Our 4 month old Siberian Husky Lilo swallowed a sock 30 minutes ago. I called Leo's immediately but, as it is Sunday, nobody is in the office so nobody answered my call. Luckily, I have been in email contact with Dr. M so I emailed him straight away with my phone number. We were on the phone less than three minutes later. After taking his professional advise, Lilo passed the sock and is already back to her crazy, hyper self. Dr. M helped turn what was a very scary scenario for a new pet owner into a learnable experience, sparing Lilo what sounds like invasive and painful medical/surgical procedures and saving me from the HUNDREDS of dollars it would have no doubt cost to have the sock removed. Aside from my most immediate experience, I would also like to mention that the clinics Vaccines For Life program has already saved us a lot of money. Also, while I understand that the clinic is fairly new, each employee that we have encountered at Leo's has been very knowledgable and helpful with Lilo, each remembering exactly who I'm speaking about on the several occasions I have called with questions. Each employee has gone above and beyond the call of duty we expect of our vet. There really aren't enough nice things to say about Leo's and, specifically, Dr. M. 5 stars truly does not do it justice; if 10 stars were available, it still wouldn't be enough. We have three dogs (!!) -- one older dachshund and two younger black lab/hound mixes-- and we've been going to Leo's Pet Care for two years. This place is the bomb, and Dr. M is great. We personally appreciate his straightforward demeanor, which can be especially helpful for bringing us back "down to earth" when we're worried sick wondering what thing it is this time that's wrong with our dog. Two out of our three dogs can get pretty high strung and anxious (especially at the vet), and whenever I apologize about that, Dr. M is always quick to remind me that they're dogs and dogs can be weird sometimes. The assistants and front desk staff are always wonderful and patient as hell when I'm wrangling all three of my dogs at once. I took Whiskey (a five-year-old black lab/chow mix) to Leo's Pet Care for a spaying surgery as well as yearly check-up. I was nervous about the surgery and the entire staff did their best to quiet my fears and assure me that she would recover quickly. Part of my visit included a standard exam. During this exam Dr. Greg found an issue with her teeth; She had not one but two cracked molars. She had been chewing on something that she wasn't supposed to be (shocking!) and hurt herself in the process. Luckily he noticed the cracks before they became infected or worse, saving my dog from agony down the road. What's interesting about the cracked molars (to me at least) is that I get her teeth cleaned every eight weeks and they had failed to mention her discomfort to me. He spotted and corrected a problem that others neglected to notice. Visit Highlights * Clean, modern facilities: the exam table moves up and down! I went to see my friend from high school just recently as a way of starting the New Year off right. Well, lets just say she hasn't left her Carmel High party life. Oi. -_-' Well, we went to this party her best friend was throwing and we brought her shi-poo with us. Bad idea. We were told bringing her dog was ok, but little did we know, there would soon be a brawl between her shi-poo and a nasty little bulldog. As you can imagine, it was kinda tough to separate the two, but once we did, we had to leave the party immediately to take care of her dog. Enter: Leo's Pet Care. Bri was shaken up, so I had to deal with the vet for her. It was after hours, but without hesitation, Dr. Greg was available for the emergency. Just a quick note; Dr. Greg has seen her shi-poo before, so I think it helped speed things up. It was apparent that Leo's Pet Care was one of those personal vet clinics that are more than just a clinical visit where the vet does their job and that is the end of that. He recognized Bri and was very caring about the whole situation. After everything and the whole scary ordeal, Candy (Bri's pup), came out ok. We have never come across a worse vet in all the decades we've had cats. The vet we dealt with could not have cared less what happened to our cat. He had lost 12 lbs over the previous couple of months and we had no idea why. They made it sound as though his weight loss was all because of his ongoing thyroid problem for which he was already on medication. Our poor guy was getting worse and worse. He had stopped eating altogether. They sold us some very expensive canned food which he wouldn't touch. We finally did our own research & figured out because of his symptoms that he was suffering from a mouth or throat issue. When I called this vet and told them they needed to look at what we found, they told us pretty quickly that he had bad teeth that needed to come out! Why had NOTHING been said about that until we pushed the issue. At that point they prescribed pain medication and antibiotics. They gave us absolutely so advice, support, nothing to help us. So we started shooting pureed food down his throat because at this point he was a walking skeleton. This vet refused to bring him in for an emergency surgery and set it for another week and a half out! We barely kept our poor little guy alive during that time. When we brought him in the morning of the surgery, he could barely stand and he was shaking all over. This vet did not care. By god this vet was going to take him in and put him under. No way he ever would have lived through that given the shape he had been allowed to get into. When we pushed about the danger of putting him under given his condition, this vet put its back up against a wall and crossed its arms. Very defensive and then it turned ugly. We were told we were being unkind not to do this surgery because our little buddy was in pain. Where was this vet's concern for his pain when - 1. We weren't told in his original visit there was an issue with his teeth 2. Didn't prescribe any antibiotics or pain meds until we called to say we had figured out what was wrong with him and 3. Didn't schedule him for surgery until another 1 1/2 weeks out? This ass was actually trying to shame us when its level of indifference towards our cat had been nothing short of cruel! We were also told in a particularly nasty way that our cat would die anyway if we didn't do the surgery. So not only was this piece of crap trying to shame us it was trying to heap cruelty on top of it. Why in god's name this vet was ever issued a license is beyond us. If you truly love your pet, DO NOT EVER STEP FOOT IN THIS PLACE! By the way, we are now giving him a pureed food that we found at Pet Supplies Plus. He is eating on his own and gaining back weight. We are now with a wonderful vet at the Monon Animal Hospital. We will be able to do the surgery (without murdering him for $900) in a few weeks. Our beautiful boy is still with us no thanks to this hateful, narcissistic, unfeeling jerk at Leo's. We definitely plan on filing a complaint with the Indiana Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners. I guess we should have been seen by the other vet that some of you are raving about on here. However, what does that say even about that vet to be willing to have another vet like this in the same office. Something very wrong there. The one star we were forced to give this business in order to post is really a minus one star. Oh yeah, they don't even bother to return your calls when you leave messages. read more

I had a wonderful experience here and want to add to the general acclaim. Their dedication showed from the moment I walked in, and it was obvious that, not only are they professional and knowledgeable, but that they genuinely love animals (seems like it would be obvious, I know, but I've been to vets where this clearly isn't the case. The casual affection Jen showed my cat was as if she were her lifelong pet). Dr. Magnusson was very clear and thorough in his explanations, and, while many vets (or doctors) seem eager to get you out the door, I was the one who actually ended our session by asking if there was "anything else": he seemed willing to stay and answer questions far longer than any other vet I've ever met. We've been taking our pets to see Dr. M. For over 2 years now. We switched from our former vet and have been thrilled with the switch. Dr. M. Is easily accessible and seems to really care about each pet. I love that it's a smaller practice because it allows both pets and owners to establish a good rapport with the staff. They always have appointments available and really work hard to accommodate all pets that need care. They were so friendly and helpful! My little pupper loved these ladies. I had just gotten my dog from Indy humane and she was super skinny and hadn't really eaten. I went here and they gave her some treats that she loved and got her eating. She warmed up to them and I doubt she will be afraid to go back like dogs usually are with the vet. read more
