On Monday I took my wonderful sweet pup of 16 years to be euthanized because of pain. She was a gentle, friendly, laid back, stoic, friendly to man and beast, pup. I thought she would have a gentle descent into sleep. Unfortunately that was not the case. When they gave her the shot it hurt her so bad she took off running, making it a couple of feet before the drug took her down. We have been clients of Meridian Veterinary Clinic for years. We have had WONDERFUL care by Dr. Ruehle for our (previously 4 cats but down to 1 now due to others passing from age related illness). Today I had to bring my remaining cat in for an appointment that I felt was urgent due to her inability to poop since Thanksgiving (5 days). First- the front desk staff were all new. I've never seen them before and they were not nearly as warm and inviting as the ones we were used to. Second- Dr. Ruehle didn't have any openings, so we saw Dr. Spencer. I don't recommend seeing Dr. Spencer for any vet needs. Our cat has lost 2lbs in 6 months and Dr. Ruehle stated it could be due to her change in diet (on special food now). She stated we can add in some of her previous food with the preventative kidney food since her labs looked better in the most recent labs and her levels were still in normal range, but if we notice anymore weight loss or any other issues come up then imaging may be warranted to make sure nothing else is going on. One week later our cat was unable to poop, had leakage from anal glands all over the house every time she tried to poop and has been miserable. Due to the holiday, this was the first time we could get her in to see someone. When we got there we went to the smallest room I've ever been in at that location, the vet tech left my senior cat on the scale and I could not get to her as I'm a wheelchair user, and my arthritic cat jumped off the tall counter onto the floor after much pondering about how she would get down. When Dr. Spencer came in, I tried to tell her about her prior issues and said Dr. Ruehle suggested imaging if she showed signs of issues. Dr. Spencer didn't appear to be concerned about what I had to say as she just turned around to do a check up on my cat. She did a very quick and seemingly rushed exam and said we need to change her food back to her preventative kidney food only because adding back in her prior food was the cause with no further exploration regarding her current issues. I asked if she could please check her anal glands and express them if needed. She agreed to do this and scooped up my cat and she and the vet tech left the room. I could hear my cat screaming from down the hall. Dr. Ruehle had to do this for one of our other cats before she she did it right in the room, so I was taken aback at the fact that they just took my cat. Dr. Spencer came back in, said "They were really impacted" and then said the tech would check me out. No further information or explanation given, and I paid $119 for a visit that was about 1/3 the length of time our visits with Dr. Ruehle are. Dr. Spencer spent no more than 10 min with me and my cat. She didn't seem to care at all about why we were there and it felt as if we were wasting her time. Third- Once I got home and my cat settled, I called to have them give a message to Dr. Ruehle about my concerns regarding my cat and was cut off because the front desk lady who answered the phone didn't want to wait to hear what was going on. She cut me off mid sentence and said, "let me see if Dr. Ruehle can just talk to you" and she put me on hold. She got back the phone after a short time and said Dr. Ruehle is in a room right now but she will message her to call me without getting any further information about why I'm calling. I hope Dr. Ruehle can call me as soon as possible to see if there is anything she would do differently, or if she wants imaging done. If she does, that will mean another traumatizing visit to the vet for my elderly cat that could have been taken care of today. I will not allow any other vet to see any of my pepts other than Dr. Ruehle from now on! I have given Meridian Veterinary Clinic a 5 star review on Google, but I'm thinking of updating that as well. read more

I love Meridian Animal Hospital! My pets see Dr. Udrasols and Dr. Ruhle are so compassionate. I feel like they try to keep costs down and only order tests that are totally necessary. Dr. U said I only had to get my senior cat the shots to " keep things legal" no need to waste money on shots she didn't need. Also, Dr. Ruhle did not order an expensive blood test till she ruled out other diagnoses, first. I feel bad for the lady that feels she was bilked, but I've never experienced this at MAH. We've been bringing a couple of our dogs here for about three years. We don't have a preference for which vet sees our dogs, so we just see whoever is available. Because of that, our dogs have been seen by several different vets, and they've all been very professional and caring. They explain everything thoroughly. It's a busy office, but sometimes you can get same-day appointments if your pet needs urgent attention. Everyone has always been friendly. You're greeted as soon as you walk in the door and aren't kept waiting long for your appointment. I definitely recommend this vet clinic! read more

We have been clients for nearly 30 years and have recommended MANY others over these years. Yes, it has become very evident just how much the practice has changed, as they are no longer a small private practice. But, what we experienced last week is unacceptable! On June 8, 2023, our 15-year-old hound dog (last of 4 dogs) began having a stroke at 03:30 am. Knowing the clinical staff didn't arrive until 08:00, I was simply going to carry our sweet old boy in for the obvious needed service. At 07:05, I called ahead to give the staff a heads-up. (Keep in mind that they have a dedicated euthanasia room.) The staff member was extremely flippant as she offered a 2:15 appt time. When I expressed that this could not wait, she (so very) dismissively offered recs to emergency vets. She was adamant that she could not make any decisions without first talking to a doctor. So, I requested a callback from a clinician when they arrived and, of course, received no call back. Later in the day, after we received care from an ER Vet, I called Meridian again and spoke to the office manager. Of course, she placated my concerns, and I would expect nothing less. I was very clear that the purpose for my call was in hopes that they would review and revise their policies for emergent euthanasias so that this does not happen to anyone else. She apologized and assured me that it would be reviewed and that the staff member will receive additional training. BLAH blah blah... One would think that we would receive a call from one of the docs, as they all cared for our fur family for all these years, especially since we just recently lost our other dog. No call. In December, just 6 months ago, our Beagle passed away. Meridian Vet: $357. ER Vet for Hound Dog: $788. (Both dogs were the same weight.) Again, there is no reason why we would need an ER Vet for a procedure that could/should have been taken care of at Meridian during regular office hours! Takeaway: There are zero reasons why an emergent euthanasia could not have been taken care of immediately, in the only place our pup has ever received care. At some point, I will call and ask what their policies are for emergent euthanasia. If nothing has changed, I WILL write an updated review. Also, since posting our experience on my personal FB, I'm learning that this kind of dismissive treatment has been experienced by many people I know. Hands down, five stars when it comes to preventative care and annual visits and anything you can plan in advance. Really, really great vets and techs and the staff is super friendly and helpful once you're in. But if you have an emergency, good luck. Maybe they'll be able to fit you in, maybe not. Probably not as quickly as you'd like. Fortunately it's not a common occurrence, but it was bad enough we went to another vet - few years ago. Ultimately we came back, but another emergency situation a few weeks ago has me frustrated again. Our pup was acting strange and we were trying to get her in before the weekend (and on spring break, which I'm sure complicated things further scheduling wise) but I was told I'd get a call back with a plan, but instead my wife (not me) got a TEXT that a prescription was ready. Absolutely zero explanation of what it was for, what they thought the problem was, whether or not we should try to come in next week, etc. Very frustrating that it wasn't handled with me directly. It clearly isn't enough that I'm looking elsewhere again, and like I said I'm VERY happy with everything preventative. Just know what you're getting into when it comes to emergencies, or hope that there is an opening. read more

if you DONT love your pet, bring them to Meridian Vet Clinic! Each visit is a base of $90 plus whatever else your pet gets done, and trust me, they will absolutely MILK you. Veterinary services everywhere are just set up to rob grieving people, and Meridian Vet clinic is a main perpetrator. My cat stopped eating, so we brought him in. Dr Spencer did not even get a good look under his tongue before declaring it a string in his mouth wrapped around the base (like who has even heard of that?) In probably around 10 visits, Dr Spencer did not ONCE get a proper look inside my cat's mouth because every time he was licking and moving. It took Dr Spencer going on vacation and us getting a new vet for them to finally tell us it was cancer. Dr Spencer knew that first time, but decided that we were the perfect grieving family to rob. Here's how I know Dr Spencer didn't even look in his mouth: with our new vet, someone who either isn't there anymore or was just a traveling vet, had to have me hold her flash light while she and the vet tech handled my cat, whereas Dr Spencer just tried to get him to open his mouth. I'm still grieving months later, and I'm heartbroken that vets are just in it for the money. They will let you animals die. they'll just watch as your baby slowly gets worse, and as you panic just wanting what's best for them, the vet gets richer and richer. We started going to this vet clinic when we moved here 2 yrs ago nosed on a friend's suggestion and reviews. So far we've not been disappointed. We take our 5 huskies, 3 chihuahuas and 2 cats here. Last summer our oldest chihuahuas heart was done. They helped her cross the rainbow bridge, a month later, our oldest cat was next. They were so very caring. I like that they had a back door to the room so we didn't have to face all the other people during our loss. Our huskies absolutely love coming here and visiting everyone. We've not been charged for unnecessary things and they always go over everything with us and make sure we're good with everything. read more

Jake Searle (owner) worked at Chuckanut Veterinary Clinic for years here in Skagit County, and is a loved veterinarian locally. It's hard to find anything negative to say about him. He took care of my dogs.... one with a very complicated wound situation going on, and one who eventually died of bone cancer. He uses LOTS of big, scientific words but if you ask for clarification, you'll get it. He's smart. He had me text him pics of my Lab's wounds as they healed to save me trips in, and also gave me tips on how I could save $$ on all the wound care creams, medications etc. He's kind, thorough and patient with his human clients and wonderful with the animals. I can be a bit neurotic with my dogs, especially in some tough and scary situations and he has always showed me empathy and grace. I trust him. I recently took my dog up to Bellingham to his new clinic, because frankly... he's worth the drive. read more

I love this place. They are so sweet and helpful yet quick and efficient. It's pretty obvious by the anxious little animals who come in as patients that they are super nervous and want to leave ASAP. The clinic knows this and has a team of at least two with every pet to help get the work done quickly. They send amazing emails with tons of information for pet owners (and they don't overwhelm my inbox! ) and reminders of upcoming appointments or services needed. The vets are all so patient and really seem to adore animals. This makes the world of a difference to me. I love this place! read more

Worst Veterinarian in the Indianapolis area. I don't recommend this clinic, at-least for anyone looking to get your pets issue resolved. My dog has ear yeast issues and after months of me going in and telling them "i am certain he has an ear infection", only to be dismissed and recommended to an allergist, (that we can not get into for 2 months), his ear is now full of puss and blood. We are thankfully going to a different vet today. Last time we were at this clinic the Doctor didn't even look at his ear, just asked what I wanted her to do about it and sent us on our way, but not before collecting $250 from me. If my dog loses his hearing... there will be a lawsuit! Thanks Dr. Clark for making my poor pup suffer this long with no help other than a recommendation. As for appointments... good luck! They never want to get you in based off of the symptoms, only what is at "their" convenience. I called about getting health certificates for my Catahula which is a really friendly dog so no problem with him. I have a German Shepard that is aggressive and I told them when I was on the phone trying to get an appointment. I wanted them to know, but I also stated that she would have medication and a muzzle -----they did say that they would be OK. I was really impressed, they use the cone of shame to help protect the staff and then they gave her a treat to try to distract her, The veterinarian was patient and gentle with her. She gave me different medication and I will tell you is was so nice to be able to get through the airport with no problems. I am so thankful I have found a veterinarian that listened------ I told her about the problems I had with the Catahula due to his heart worm that I could not find anyone to give him his injections that he needed so I had to fly him back to Tennessee, she stated that they could do this just had to order the medication. My cat recently developed s lump on her back. They made room for her on schedule. They scheduled surgery for couple days later. They said called anytime as often as you want to check on here The vet himself called soon at it was over. Was so nice and explained everything. The staff called a hour later with a doing good update and then staff called and said she could be picked up anytime or stay as long as I wanted. After being unhappy with the current vet, I was looking for another veterinary clinic that can be a go-to for my pet's needs. My coworker who has 2 dogs and 2 cats recommended Meridian Veterinary Clinic to me and I am glad she did. First, they're very good with documentation - once your phone number is registered in their system, every time you call, they will be able to instantly pull up your pet's records without asking a million questions. Second, they email all receipts, estimates and reports to your registered email address instead of handing over paper copies. Third, they are willing to give same-day appointments if your pet needs immediate attention. That's the kind of care I need for my fur baby. During covid, they have been doing curbside appointments only. Basically, when you arrive at the clinic, you have to call them and let them know the parking spot # and they come out to take your pet. Treatment and payment conversations are handled over phone while your pet is inside being checked. I have been very impressed by the doctors, technicians and front desk staff at the clinic and I hope they continue to run a successful practice. We chose this place because of all the good reviews and it has been a nightmare start to finish. We took our dog there for a bladder issue and we were pretty concerned because it was his first major issue. They took some tests and told us they would call us in 1-2 days. After three days we called and then it was two more days before they told us any results. Ridiculous. When we did talk to the vet, he kept calling our boy dog a girl. We got a prescription and every time we call to get it refilled they act like they don't know what's going on. I don't recommend this place. read more

Very clean atmosphere. Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable regarding previous vaccinations received, especially since I couldn't remember and didn't have copies from moving from another state. Short wait time, we actually were seen 10 minutes early. The Dr. was awesome and very gentle with our dog. During the 4 vaccinations our dog became a little uneasy, as one would expect. The Dr. took her time to comfort her during the time of vaccinations. This will definitely be our primary Vet Clinic. read more

I recently moved to the area and decided to try this place out after seeing the positive reviews. My dog is a rescue dog and her behavior can be pretty unpredictable. She is absolutely terrified of any vet office. There are also some people that she just does not like and usually scares by barking or growling. Meridian did a great job dealing with this behavior! The vet and vet tech did a great job administering her shots and trimming her nails. They had a good hold on her the entire time and my dog never even snapped or bit. They were also helpful about answering our questions. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because I don't think they were as friendly as I expected. Maybe because they were pretty busy during our appointment time, but neither the front desk area or vet were as welcoming as I expected. They definitely were not rude or anything like that, but I guess as a first time client I expected more of a welcoming introduction. This isn't a make or break problem though. I have confidence in their care of my puppy but disagree with charging me twice in less than one month for physical examinations at $55 each. (Initial examination and then another when puppy received vaccine booster three weeks later?). This second examination or charge was not disclosed along with upcoming vaccines, treatments, or exams, so I don't feel the charge is fair and feel it to be dishonest. read more

Not overly impressed! I had a senior panel ran in my dog on a Monday or Tuesday the week before a Monday holiday. I didn't even get my results until the following week (mind you this was for possible renal failure) also they had me coming in for a urine catch which I assumed was included in the senior panel and it was not! So I had to shell out almost an additional $50-$60 it was about $250 and I had to come back because they screwed the labs up! They just seem a bit pricey. Also dismissive over my concern and wanting answers before a 3 day weekend. The staff was pretty friendly and all and the facilities were nice.All and all not the worst experience I just wont be back. read more

Let me first start by saying I tried to schedule a appointment with you last week. I called Monday to schedule for Tuesday I'm not sure who I spoke with but letting them know I just got a new puppy and off the paper work I only had 24 hours to get her looked at. The person said sorry were booked all week I asked if I could ask question or even just try to fit her in. The person I spoke to hung up on me. Now I went online to schedule a appointment for 1pm today I received confermation on Saturday. I received a call and a email for my appointment to be canceled. I was surprised that as good as I thought you were that I would be treated like this since I've been bringing my other dog Max there since he was a puppy. I just tried to call to speak to the manger and once again I was hung up on. I will not be bringing my dogs there I will also be letting my other family members know to do the same. read more

I've gone to MVC for years; they are like family. Whether it's getting my pets, annual shots or treating an illness, they are always so helpful and amazing. 3 months ago, we had to put down our beloved 13 year old dog; it was the worst day of my life. They stayed 2 HOURS after close on a SATURDAY to wait on my husband, who was an hour away, so he could be there when we put her down. They were caring and sweet and didn't even hesitate to stay open for us. Some of my favorite employees are Dr. Udresols, Rachelle, Kourtni, Sarah and Dr. Spencer. They are seriously like family. We've been bringing our dogs to Meridian Vet for almost 15 years. Up until a year ago I would of given them 5 stars. Professionally, they're very good and know their stuff. Unfortunately I think they're trying to grow too quickly. In the past they were always willing to accommodate unexpected minor emergencies that needed an appointment at the last minute (cuts, sprains, tick bites etc). Things that aren't serious enough for a trip to the emergency vet, but also things that can't wait 3-4 days. For more than the last year, any time we've called for a minor emergency we've been told they're short handed and the earliest appointment available is 3-4 days away. This morning was the 4th time in about 18 months that we've needed to schedule one of our dogs with a different clinic because they're "short handed". After almost 15 years, I'm afraid they've lost our business. read more

I left my previous vet because they grew to a point that you could never get them on the phone and never get an appointment without waiting days unless your pet was bleeding out. I was referred by my daughter to MVC and took both my dogs there a few months ago. We got in right away and the care they gave them was great. I've been taking my dogs to Meridian Vet Clinic since I moved to Indianapolis 20 years ago. They've taken very good care of 3 dogs of mine over that time. I tried other vet clinics briefly, but always returned to using them even when I was living in Broad Ripple. I love the feel of this clinic. Not "corporate", more like a small-town clinic. I used to exclusively see Dr. Sheff, but when he cut back his hours there, I would just see whomever was available. It is so nice to know that you can easily and quickly make an appointment and be confident with having ANY of their 5 doctors treating your pet. I've used them for everything from annual checkups, spaying, surgery, acute conditions, chronic pain, allergies, care of a debilitating disease in one of my pets, and a euthanasia. They are very professional, knowledgable, straightforward, explain things well (good news and bad), don't push products they sell, and are priced very reasonably. Dr Haviland has put together a good team at MVC. I'm glad I live close by now! read more
