I spent over a decade learning martial arts from this school. I started tae kwon do at the age of 8 and eventually joined the judo program a few years later. The martial arts I trained in here continued to be my passion into college as I attended San Jose State to continue my judo career. What I learned at Kim's laid the foundation for not only my martial arts career, but also my college goals and future career aspirations. Master Kim and his kids (including the current Head instructor Jennifer) taught me the importance of respect, courtesy, and general kindness to my peers. I've been at I. S. Kims sense 2004 and I can confidently say that this is more than a school. I have personally seen the students create a bond and help build each other up as they rise through the ranks. The instructors are skilled and have the ability to be adaptable which makes this the perfect school for the energetic youth and adults. Speaking from a personal view: I have been apart of the I. S. Kims for the majority of my life and I must say that my life will be forever changed for the better because of my time here. It's not that I earned my black belt or because I got a cool belt or uniform. They offer something I can not describe in words. They teach you a set of morals every step of the way to ensure that you not only learn the physical aspects of martial arts, but pick up the mentality of a martial artist. The first thing I learned was love and honor your mother and father. There is no last thing I learned because I am forever learning more and more about what it means to be a martial artist. I love it here! My five year old son attends classes here twice a week and since his admission to the school, his behavior has greatly improved, he has become more mindful of his actions and responsibilities at home as well as at school. After each class, the teachers pose questions like, "Who made their beds today?", or "Who picked up their toys today and put them away?", or "Who talked back to their parents or teachers at school today? If one of the students give the wrong answer, that student then has to do anywhere between 10 to 20 to all the way up to 100 push-ups or worse yet, shooting stars (a push-up, jump up from a squat then do a jumping jack--difficult to describe and even more difficult to do). Let me say that the students are then motivated to live up to their responsibilities just so they won't have to do any push-ups or shooting stars! Jennifer is the highest ranking teacher there and manages the dojo under the guidance of her father, Master Kim. There are other strong female high ranking black belts assisting with the class also in addition to the traditional male upper black belts. I love that. I love that there are always strong and positive male AND female role models present in the class. I love that once a black belt is achieved, a student doesn't just leave; on the contrary, they stay and contribute to the well being and success of the dojo and to the benefit of all of its participants, young and old. This Jennifer and her team offer an after school program where, if needed, they will pick up your child from school, drive him/her back to the dojo, and then help with homework. I have not yet had the need to take advantage of this service, but I am sure that I will need to in the near future, because let's face it parents, in the perfect world, we'd all start work after the kids head off to school and end work before they get out of school. Now, in terms of the quality of my son's progress in Tae Kwon Do: he's only five, so he still has a lot of gross motor skills development that has to take place, but with that fact aside, he just tested for his GREEN belt yesterday, I got the official results of this testing and he passed with flying colors! He is doing better than I could ever have imagined. His technique may not be perfect (remember, he's only had his little body for 5 years..) but he knows each kick and each step of his form. He's fixing his bed, cleaning his room, and being respectful. I am so proud and truly honored to be a part of the IS Kim's Tae Kwon Do team! read more

They range from 3yr old to adults and have curriculum that is challenging yet manageable for all ages.
