Bioluminescent Bay Fajardo with the Glass Bottom Tour adventure group…read more
Now I can put a check mark on something which claims to be only in 5 locations in the entire world, Puerto Rico boasting of 3 of them- the bioluminescent bay
Point 1- and most important point:
You should have at least a little bit of kayaking experience, good enough to know steering, its not a mandate no, but if u don't then U will definitely fall way behind the others.
Point 2- You Will get wet. Wear clothes you are ok to wet. Don't carry anything important on you which you mind getting wet. There may be mosquitoes time to time, be mentally prepared. You will be knee deep in water, wear appropriate shoes, but you can leave the shoes in the car and go barefoot.
Point 3- The darker the night, the better the luminescence.
Note: In a certain area, the water illuminates when you dip your hand or anything else in it. Swimming is prohibited there but hands, legs, peddles are all ok. Thats what it is. And to think its all because of a certain plankton, a natural phenomenon, is what makes it all that special. A starlit sky above, a huge expanse of water in the dark where u can only hear one another, your kayaking partner beside you, your team with you, all kayaking, laughing, listening to the night sounds, or catching sight of a sleepy iguana- all these make it a fun experience.
And gosh the guides ! They are so helpful and absolutely hilarious, all the while being motivated... if I completed anything and made it through, it was only because of them.
Yes, it all exciting, adventurous and fun, but if in your head you have built up a magically lit pond (which, i had), then NO its not that at all.
I want to stress on this again - the guides were absolutely wonderful people. They make sure everyone enjoy and keep the whole experience interactive while making sure all the precautions are followed.
And if I can put a check mark its only because of they not giving up on us, and they waited, helped and made us not miss the experience however late we were.
