The store itself isn't very large, but they really make the most with the space they were given, while still managing to not feel cramped. The have a small produce section full of really fresh items. The refrigerated/freezer section spans the right side of the store, and is filled with all kinds of goodies. They have a check cashing booth to the rear left of the store, not far from their meat section, where they have a bunch of different cuts on display. I found many items that my family uses regularly, and it's awesome to now have something in the area, in stead of having to run out to Laurel or New Carrolton to make special purchases. I really hope that people take the time to check this place out. This staff is friendly, and helpful. This market was much needed in this area. I will be patient as they work out any kinks, and hope to see them flourish in the years to come. Welcome to the neighborhood!

(If others exist, they're well-kept secrets). The space inside is very bright! A lot of these very small markets can feel cramped and dim, but not so here. Due to the footprint of the store, it's not very large inside, and the aisles (if you can call them that) are small and cramped. But, they make good use of the space all the same, and with super-high ceilings, it FEELS a lot bigger inside than it probably is. They do have a fresh foods counter in the back, and they also offer fresh and frozen produce up front. I got a great haul, enough to make a fantastic salsa verde with some fresh tomatillos, jalepenos, lime, and cilantro. Yum! It went well with the frozen tostones! I'd like for this place to be a lot bigger than it is, but I can't complain. It's a really nice shop with helpful staff and a good selection of products considering the space available. It's well worth popping your head in and taking a look around!

The parking lot is small and always crowded. It seems when I am walking by there is always an adventure happening in it. I'd suggest forgoing it and just finding street parking or using one of the nearby parking garages. The store has multiple levels inside of it. The first level is toys at the front, food to the back right and health, beauty, toiletries and dishes to the back left. The toy selection is vast with lots of cute Japanese characters. Also extensive is the food. You will traditional American brands (Kit Kat for example) in flavors that aren't typically sold in regular American stores. My only qualm is I wish I could easily discern what is vegan. I have not tried some things I'd be interested in purchasing because of that. The second level is beauty supplies. My wife has been purchasing beauty supplies from Japan for a while and was excited to know she could purchase some of them locally now. The third layer is stationary items and school supplies. There are a lot of cute notebooks, pencils, pens and erasers amongst other things. The final layer is all claw machines. I find myself browsing more than buying at Ebisu Mini Japan. That is what ultimately keeps this a three star spot.

I love their stationary section, too!! Definitely a place worth exploring!

Marufuji does carry a lot of Japanese imported items you cannot find at other stores in the area, and I think it's a great addition to Tysons. All of the employees are so friendly too, I love stopping by just to browse the new stuff they get in every once in awhile. It absolutely is pricey, since it's a very small specialty grocery store. The produce they carry is fresh, but the markup is quite high. You're likely not going to come here for your regular weekday grocery haul. When I shop here I always make sure I'm shopping deals/sales, otherwise I come here for the meat. They have the best quality A5 wagyu and kurobuta pork. Again it's pricey, but even full price it's worth it for the insane marbling. I did manage to catch their wagyu on a sale where it was $80/lb which was a pretty cool find. I'm also personally a sucker for the gachapon machines at the front of the store (which rotate semi-regularly).

I went on a weekend morning and it was very easy to find good parking and it was not crowded inside. It is nice that NoVA has a Japanese grocery store as big as Marufuji. I wasn't able to spend a whole lot of time here, but I was able to get an onigiri and a drink from the back. I had to pay for onigiri at the front of the store, but paid for the drink at the cafe. There is a designated food court area with plenty of tables and seating. The onigiri was really good and the Japanese rice was satisfying to eat. It is clean inside and well organized. I got sliced cloud bread for $5.99 for 4 slices. That's pretty steep price for bread. LA and NJ has stores like Mitsuwa and Daiso. Perhaps one day in the future for NoVA?
