This place is delicious every time I go. I come here almost once a week and my food always taste fresh and amazing. Whenever I go and see the owners, they are always very friendly and hospitable. Sometimes my food takes 15 minutes longer than expected, not a big deal. If you want to sit down and eat, Just call beforehand and make sure they're open. The food and friendliness completely outweigh wait times. I will continue to go to this restaurant as long as it is open and continue to recommend it to my friends and family! read more

Terrible experience. Reserved a table for Mother's Day with our Mom for 3:30pm. Bad decision. Upon entering the establishment we were not greeted . We waited for about 10 mins to even be greeted . Then once greeted our reservation was never confirmed. The tables were put together to accommodate our party . However, that's kind of where it left off . We literally waited for over 45 mins just to finally get a waiter to take our drink order. After so much lag time and the worst customer service imaginable , we requested to speak with the owner. She came out 15 minutes later, we voiced our concerns , and she then apologized . She even gave us a mimosa for our troubles . How funny in hindsight this was . The service then only got worst. We eventually just asked for our food to go once 5:30 rolled around and our food was still not served. Ridiculous. Even that was an issue, as I ordered a Rasta pasta that I never received but was charged for. Between the heavy traffic, the loud music, the extremely poor customer service , and pricing , this is a place my whole family will be sure to avoid. Our Mother's Day was officially ruined. Saw island cho on social media really wanting to try this place I drove over an hour to get there , to just find out they were closed , waited an hour in the parking lot and still closed, decided to try the pizza place next door since I drove far and they were pretty good, decided to try to drive back the next day to try island Cho "guess what" for them to be closed again , tried calling and no answer , they make up their own hours of operation do not pay any mind to the hours on google or yelp wish they would open the time they say they will open had my hopes high to try this place read more

The food here is flavorful, the staff is friendly, this place looks great with modern design and arts. Little pricey but worth it.

The food was really good. The fried chicken was moist and flavorful. The skin was really crispy and the sauce that went with it was so good. The baked Mac&cheese and the spinach sides were also really good. read more

I want to love this place...I do. There isn't much variety in North Haven, mostly pizza, Italian or chain restaurants. I grew up in New York where Caribbean food was more readily available and abundant. This type of food was always affordable with giant portions. However, at Islandcho, it is neither. The portions of the main protein, in my case curry goat, was small. The flavor was spot on, but tiny portions with 2 sides; 1 fried rice, 1 plantains. 2 of us spent over $50 on 2 entrees, 2 soft drinks, and left hungry. We stopped at another restaurant down the road afterwards for more food. I hope they figure it out because North Haven needs the variety. read more

This place is more aptly named Island No. Spent almost $50 for two dinners, fried chicken with two sides and jerk chicken with two sides. The jerk chicken was good but one piece was a quarter of a back, that would more appropriately been used to make broth rather than served as a piece of chicken (although technically it is chicken). The side of cole slaw was tasty but the portion was about a tablespoon and the spinach is frozen chopped (unfortunately it was a reasonable portion). The service was slow and the ambiance is dominated by the overpowering stench from the plug-in "air-fresheners". read more

What made me give this a one star is due to the owners not telling me there is a 20% gratuity added to groups of 3 or more on top of me tipping 20% and still not telling me. I found out by looking at my receipt and seeing the 20% gratuity added Stealing is wrong no matter what. read more

This restaurant is a wonderful little gem. The food and service were amazing. The atmosphere is clean and the restaurant has a very warm feeling the minute you enter. The food is made to order so don't expect a quick meal but this means the food is incredibly fresh. I highly recommend this restaurant for dining in or taking out. The potato and channa is a must. The jerk spices were delicious and the curry was spot on. Definitely a 10/10!!! read more

My daughter and I tried it for dinner tonight. It's a hit! The food is flavorful and not overly salty. We had the stewed chicken and the oxtail - meat is falling off the bone and so so good. For sides I highly recommend the potato and chickpea stew. For appetizer we had wings - sweet and spicy and crispy - yummy. The restaurant itself is very clean and the ambiance is welcoming. I sat down in island Cho based off some reviews I'd seen online about how wonderful it was and I'd like to warn someone before going it's allll over the place! I came in ready to eat excited about this Jamaican/trini fusion. No one even greeted me I sat for about 30 mins before I found a girl running the floor alone handling about 5 tables. We have a drink order another 15 mins went by we hadn't received anything (I should have left then) We asked to speak with a manager to figure out was this what was to be expected the whole time we are there?!? She came out gave an excuse that she had just arrived (it was 4:30) She is the chef and owner she will fix it don't worry trying to assure us it'll be better from here. That's what I got from her even though I could hardly hear her over the loud club like music that was in a restaurant and she was standing right next to me. About 20 more minutes go by our drinks arrive we are ordering food at this point it's about appetizers come out after about 30 minutes after. They procede to serve 1 person at our table around 545 we all thought our plates weren't far behind after another 15 mins of waiting for my plate I asked it be but to go they still brought the plate out and gave me a box to put in. I arrived at 3:30 I left at 6:07 I hadn't even tasted my food yet!! But I could barely think with the amount of traffic from people coming in the loud music I was struggling to hear my peers at the same table as me. The bill alone was insane for all the headache for just salmon w/2sides cabbage w/mixed vegetables with Rasta pasta & rum punch I paid $50. I would never go back the food well the salmon was good but definitely not worth the headache! read more

My husband and I stopped by for an early dinner on a Friday night while the kids were out of town. We don't get to eat out much, so we wanted to go somewhere special that we'd both enjoy. We'd read about this new-ish local restaurant in our local paper, and wanted to support a local business with unique cuisine. Island Cho definitely exceeded our high expectations! For a starter, we shared the Cho House Special Wings. The wings were perfectly fried - extra crispy skin - and the sauce was AMAZING. A special, addictive combination of sweet and spicy. Memorable and unique, and so delicious. We practically licked the plate clean. For our main meal, I ordered the Oxtail with sides of rice and peas and rasta pasta. The oxtail was perfect - meaty, flavorful, and so rich. Love the juice and marrow in those oxtail bones! The chef took no shortcuts with flavor on this meal, and the combo of oxtail with rice and pasta went together so well. It was a hearty portion, so I enjoyed leftovers at work the following week. My husband ordered the jerk chicken with potato salad and fried rice and was very happy with his meal, too. He also had a delicious banana-flavored Trinidadian soda. The owner, Gillian, chatted with us a while and clearly cares about quality and flavor.
