My husband and I were patients here about 10 years ago. Dr. Yeager was great, however, they were WAAYYYY overcharging, so we stopped going. Went back this last week as I had a bad toothache. Had a 9AM appointment, didn't get pulled into a room for over 30 minutes. Went in, sat there another 30 minutes before being seen. Waited another 30 minutes after quick exam for a 15 minute fix. Hygienist in next room was so loud and unprofessional, kept my anxiety on high. The office was filthy, dusty and cluttered, not what I remembered from years ago. Dentists kids running back and forth throughout the office. Not very comforting as there are dental procedures taking place. Overall just not a good experience and I will not be returning. read more

RUDE!!! The front office staff is rude. The first time I went for an appointment, I walked in to see a patient arguing with staff and staff responding rudely. I didn't know what they were arguing about, so I disregard it. The second time I went in for an appointment, an older patient was very upset about an interaction with front office staff and left almost crying. I disregarded it because I didn't know the cause. Today, my partner went into the office for an appointment that had been cancelled twice and rebooked for today. Without looking at my partner, the person at the front desk said, "You're LATE!" and passively aggressively ignored the register question, "I'm 8 minutes late. I'm sorry for that. Will I still be able to have my appointment?" Don't go here. They were once a great place but that's no longer the case. read more

I was never notified that this business was sold, but I knew something wasn't right when I made the appointment. First, let me say that the staff is rude and unprofessional. I sat in the chair and they said I had to have X-rays (huh???), didn't need them the last time I had to have a veneer glued back on. This was a 3-minute appointment. The dentist glanced at my previous X-rays and said You have a fractured molar, and need it fixed, so we need to do an estimate and get you scheduled, This is how to bill the insurance company for a complete exam. He never looked past the front veneer or would've seen that molar was now a crown and already fixed. Again, this was a 3-minute appointment. I went to check out and was told to sit and wait for the estimate. I tried telling her I already had the work done, she got frustrated and said today's exam is $365!!! I said he never looked into my mouth, he glued my veneer on. Another girl came up and told her to process it under fucking insurance. She complained about the files being fucked up and charged me $30. I walked out and stood by the door to see what they were going to say about me when I left, and just as I figured, I was called a fucking bitch. This was the girl with all the tattoos on her hands, with a fantastic personality. I am so bothered that I wasn't told they sold the business, but now it needs to be shut down, at least for insurance fraud! read more

I've been coming to Island Dental since pre-Covid times and have always had a great experience. While I missed Star, the hygienist Amber was so gentle and kind. The hygienists always have good energy and their knowledge and enthusiasm for dental health shows. Most importantly to me, Dr. Yeager is an experienced dentist with a gentle touch and I trust her with all my dental needs. She took care of my wisdom teeth removals and I left with barely any pain. The checkout receptionist was a great help in getting me quotes for future appointments. I also got to meet Dr. Stanley who was very friendly. This dental office must erase bad reviews there is no way this place could be 5 star . They wouldn't even see me after running 12 minutes late, it was my error cause my clock was wrong somehow someone else must have set the clock wrong due to a power outage or something. Bottom line is i have waited about 5 months for them to take care of me . My device/denture has broken on me twice since i received it. They didnt really care to listen when i complained about it feeling too big or not fitting well. It seemed tbat the more i complained the more they were tired of seeing me, but honestly you pay 6 to 7 grand for a top denture you want it to fit properly. The chewing process is your livelyhood when it comes to your nutrition and health, not to mention the physical aspects of not having teeth. I lost mine related to a trauma i endured as a young lady, that haunts me everytime i smile or chew. Its so hurtful and embarrassing too. Just an awful feeling. This is one reason i do not like going to the dentist. Dr Stanley left his old office and merged with this one, i just feel like the service is different. I shouldnt have to deal with a denture that keeps breaking. They said they would adjust to fit me well that never happened. The second time my denture broke i was in Florida, then i came back to Maui to see doctor to get it fixed, this was November, im just now getting my denture, well i would have but they refused to see me. It does not take that long and the assistants are the ones that do most of the fitting. They had a couple of young ladies that were working the day of my appt and i left them with. Dr Stanley trusted staff, all to be told that the 2 girls did a horrible thing and just walked out and quit, losing alot of patient information and there dentures. The dentist office did not call me i called them to find out about my denture because no one bothered to call and tell me anything. Guess cause they didnt know themselves how many patiemts were affected by this awful situation. I have waited patiently, tried to be understanding, and have been lied to when i have called and they said they would call me back but never did, and that happened on many occasions. Not just once not twice but many. I wrote them all down. Then there is no documention of some of my calls and conversations. I even said to the office mananger the other day, are you sure you are gonna call me back? She reassured me she would. She did stick to her word and called me back. After all i have beem thru, months of waiting, sore gums, not being able to eat and embarrasing moments of not being able to smile and they cannnot show a little grace? How many times do we have to wait on doctors ? This whole ordeal is very upsetting. The day i went for my fitting Dr. Stanley made a joke about losing the teeth, which i did not find funny. Its hard when you suffer trauma and then at an unforseen crossroads of another dentist, you are left with an even bigger issue. Im not rich nor do i complain but this here treatment has left me scarred and i wil not soon forget how i was treated. This has made me feel even more ugly. Things happen to people tney have no co.trol over and its hard enough going to a dentist, without the dred of how you look to others. I just want to eat . I just want it to fit, is that too much to ask.for? I just want to smile and feel good about myself. Over about 10 years of being a patient of Dr. Yeager's at Island Dental on more or less a quarterly basis for cleanings, Dr. Yeager saw me not more than two or three times; all the rest of the time the only people I saw were hygienists. Although I often asked to see Dr. Yeager on my next visit, she never showed herself. What a contrast to my previous dentist in Maryland who always made sure to see me after each cleaning. And now Island Dental is charging a "facility fee" of $15 at each visit. I asked what this is and was told that it's "a fee for using the facility". This is like Macy's charging you an entrance fee to get into the store. It's a rip-off. read more

Wow this was almost a good experience. Had 1 month to get work done before my insurance ended. I told the doctor and the staff about my situation and they assured they can book me on the 23rd and get the work done. 1 week before appointment they left a voicemail saying they are calling "in regards to rescheduling" with no reason why. I called back after a few days since based on the message, it was very brief and I assumed I would get a call back at least before they cancelled. Turns out i was told my appointment was cancelled and now there's no availabilities within the month. Not sure why they did this but it feels like they intentionally scammed me out of using insurance. This office has seemingly adopted a profit-first business model. They always seem in a rush to get you through the assembly line with little attention to patient care. They have you sign a form dictating that they will charge you if you cancel with less than 24hr notice (no concern for emergencies, or sudden illness), yet they canceled/rescheduled my appointments regularly. Please read this and save yourself the hassle! I'm new to Maui, this dental office was closest to me and I figured a dentist was a dentist. First off, when I call for an appointment or for a follow up, all the receptionist and I must have spoke to 4 of them have a "what do you want" attitude. They ask for a credit card to keep on record in case you miss an appointment or come late, you'll be charged a hefty fee. On the day of my appointment, I just went in for a cleaning and annual check up. The dental asst didn't seem like she knew how to take X-rays and repeatedly put that uncomfortable stick in my mouth for a good 10 mins to get the same image. Finally I got to see the dentist and after Dr. Lee examined my teeth, he said I needed to have some expensive dental work done. First to replace a crown and then to cap my front tooth. Now, I know I had to get dental work done, however the concept of charging you unnecessarily when things can probably wait became a concern to me. I was then referred to the billing ladies when finished. They proceed to tell me that my insurance will not cover the crown due to the years it was last put in and dropped a payment plan in my face. Said that if you pay cash or commit to a earlier appointment they will lower the $1,400.00 total cost. Now, I've switched to another dentist and this incident was the last straw for me: I called Island Dental a week ago to request that my X-rays be forwarded to my new dentist. They had me fill out a release form (which I already filled out when I did the initial paperwork) and sent it back to the person I spoke to. I follow up with my new dentist and they said the xrays were never sent! I call island dental again and they told me the girl that I sent the release form was out to lunch and when asking if I can send it to another person instead to just get this done, as I requested it a week ago, I get the answer, "we'll have her call you back." Like what?! Just forward my damn X-rays! For gods sake I'm so over Island Dental and their nonsense. Please save yourself the headache from this dentist. read more

i went to dr.john dugan , owner, at island dental for implants. after spending close to $11,000 for 3 implants, i am very discouraged. i began the service in dec 2019. he prepared my mouth for the implants. then i was to wait for the bone to grow around them before placing on final implants. in jan of 2020 i received the implants. within 3 wks all 3 fell out. after returning to him, he said, we will give you a discounted price on more work. we are retired and i am 78 yrs old. this $11000 i had to charge and will be paying on that for the next five years. only problem. he bled me dry. i have no more money and now i cant even eat. my partials just flop around. i think it is a crime that he would not stand behind his work. i have a dr. in seattle, who put in an implant 14 yrs ago. this one is still great. i believe we deserve a refund for the faulty work that was done. when i went in to check on implants, dr dugan cranked on the screws and a week later last one fell out. in a matter of 6 months for the prep and finish i spent close to $11,000. then he wanted more. new plan my wife went in for a tooth pulled. she was quoted $200 to 250 to pull it. it was just hanging there. so he pulled it and charged me 650. i am 72. he said when i asked why, you had an absess. that must have been the two zip zips he did with drill in less then 20 seconds and charged me an extra 400. for that. on my husbands final visit with broken implants, he also charged him 300 for adjustments that fell out a week later. then he kept the screws and pieces. he asked, do yu have the pieces, as i offered up, he thanked me and kept them. $11000 later and he kept the implants. yikes. what a crook. this man should be sued. i am contemplating it. he doesnt use this business to help people he uses it to screw people. what a business. and he gets away with it. ps. my dentist friend said when i told him he charged me 650 for pull, saying it had an absess , said, "all teeth loose have absesses. huh. read more

Scam artists that hide behind a dental office!!! AVOID!!! In order to schedule an appointment, you have to give your credit card number, so they can change you without your consent. They do not follow their own cancellation policy. I had an emergency come up and called to cancel WAY ahead of their cancellation period. My phone call wasn't returned until days later, conveniently past the allowed rescission period. I was charged a fee I never authorized to be charged! I am opening a fraud case with my credit card company. I know I'll get the $ back, but why go through all the trouble when you can simply avoid a fraudulent situation. AVOID. Update: I ALSO received a bill in the mail from them in the same amount that was already fraudulently charged to my credit card. I called them to inform them that I was ALREADY charged for this, and they (conveniently enough) didn't have record of it. I had to send proof of being charged by them in order to not have YET ANOTHER fraudulent charge on my account. HOW IS THIS LEGAL?! It's a waste of my time, money, and energy. Wow! My son has a huge hole in his tooth, we go in for X-rays and preliminary appt. They tell me my son has another cavity being started in the tooth next to it and they want to do baby root canals on baby teeth. I say no, please pull the tooth because the last tooth they filled got an infection under the filling and had to be pulled anyway by another dentist. They say fine, we have to pull both teeth and put in spacers. That appt is over a month away, I call back and see if they will please just pull the one tooth ? They say No. So they took my money for X-rays and will not help an 8 year old in pain unless I follow their scam to do way more than I want. Dr. Dugan literally said he will not pull my son's tooth, but he would if I let him pull two teeth and put in spacers. Interesting. Scammers!!! read more

My visit here was to evaluate my teeth to see if I qualify to do the in office whitening. And I did! Dr. Jessica was very mellow and friendly, she answered all my questions. I will return to do the whitening system and re-write on this post to say how it went. OK so today is 09.15 and I did the in office whitening last month. This treatment is not worth it. The admin staff are so intense and make what is already a stressful experience for many people even more so. No "hello" from the front desk after you tell them who you are - just "yeah, I gotcha down". I was always ushered in quickly with 8:00 AM appointments, so the Salvation Army waiting room and blaring Country Western music did not get on my nerves. The last visit I waited for over an hour and overheard another patient he had waited two hours. I walked out, tried to reschedule an 8:00 AM appointment to the confusion of 3 staff members. Have not gone to the dentist for over 12 years. Finally decided to go everything was fine they said I had no cavities did a deep clean and things were good. 3 visits later they said I had 3 cavities coming up I told them that's kinda weird because I'm taking better care of my teeth now then I was when I was not seeing a dentist. They said all 3 cavities to fix would be between 8-900 to repair out of pocket because my insurance doesn't cover all of it and they use enamel instead of just silver fillers . Went to another dentistry to get a second opinion and they said I had no cavities and everything looked great. During the first couple visits I told my dentist my jaw was sore he said maybe your grinding your teeth in your sleep so he gave me a quote to make me one of those rubber retainer things you put in your mouth to stop from grinding your teeth at night it was a little more than 600.00. I waited a couple weeks and the pain went away lucky I didn't spend the money on that. Be careful of who you choose to be your dentist these guys are all about the money. Dentist can grab x-rays of other patients and show them to you and say you have a cavity here and here when really there is nothing wrong. read more

Staff at reception were obnoxiously loud and unprofessional. I could hear them from the room that I was in while the hygienist had all her instruments on. This is the type of place where you feel like you are just a number. For first timers, they take your X-rays, they bring you to this filthy room where there are molds of other people's teeth. the cleanliness is just not there. The seat i sat in had water droplets from who knows what, plastic on the back of the dental chair, mold and rust on the ceiling. Then you wait another 20min to see the dentist. The assistant helping the dentist didnt know what she was doing and he was correcting her and telling her the proper way of recording his findings. I don't want amateurs taking notes on me! what if she records something wrong! Then they tell you to come back another time for your cleaning. I managed to get an appointment from them same day, not that that made it any more convenient. After the dentist examined my teeth, I was told to go back out to the lounge and wait yet again. They finally call me in for my cleaning. During the cleaning, there are other hygieniests coming in and out asking my hygienist if these tools were hers and that she needs to clean up after herself, in a joking manner! Just a very uncomfortable and impersonal experience. The entire process took over 2 hours! I will definitely be seeking another clinic, even if it costs more money out of pocket. read more

When I first started going to Island Dental they were smaller and the staff was professional and friendly. It was easy to get appointments in an emergency and they even had 24 hour on call service. Then they expanded, lost their office manager, took on more dentists, and everything changed. 24 hour emergency is long gone. I never used it, but it made me comfortable to know it had been available. I began having trouble with the hygienists. None of them stayed very long after the expansion. I was going every 6 months and might get the same hygienist twice and then they were gone. I scheduled to see my usual hygienist by request and when I arrived she wasn't there and another hygienist ushered me inside without introducing herself. I still don't know her name. No one called me to say my hygienist was unable to keep her appointment with me, so I was not asked if I wanted to see someone else. I didn't. The first thing she did was start denigrating my teeth and oral hygiene, clearly not having read my chart to learn about my saliva gland that doesn't work and open mouth breathing that causes excess plaque to build up quickly. I guess it's just easier to blame how the patient brushes their teeth and deny they do it right. I tried to explain and she went on and on disregarding me. I shouldn't even have to explain what should be in my chart every single time I have my teeth cleaned. I should be able to come in, sit down, and relax while my teeth are cleaned. I don't pay them to be 'educated' and/or 'convinced' I don't brush my teeth when I do. I pay them to clean my teeth. I was going in frequently for professional cleaning to "take care" of my teeth, though the service was far from professional. I still don't know the hygienist's name. She reminded me of an automaton. A recording and robot could have provided the same so-called "service". To make matters worse, she was trying to twist my arm into using a product that I was allergic too. The dentist and I had come up with a solution, but in her mind it was better to make a "recommendation" I use a product that has been well documented to cause an allergic reaction before and was not what the dentist recommended that had been working better than anything else ever did in the past. She clearly imparted that she didn't believe me. Everyone probably gets the same lame educational speech and same treatment without regard for their individuality. Patient's aren't all the same. Health conditions can change things up. Good care comes in tailoring the recommendation to the patient and, most important, LISTENING to the patient in order to make the best recommendation. A year or two ago Dr. Dugan used a cement I am allergic to that was also very well documented on a lab report and made me very ill. It took 2 months for the lining of my stomach to heal after it dripped down my throat for 3 days burning my insides. When I returned to their office to have it removed, I found out something I was allergic to was used even though it was right on the lab report in my patient file. I let that one go as a mistake, they happen. Now it's gone too far trying to coerce me to use something that is damaging to my health. They're supposed to be helping people, not harming them. I don't feel I should have to defend myself to protect my health every time I go in. I often felt like they thought I just had an anxiety disorder, which I don't. In fact, my GAF score is 99, much higher than the vast majority of normal people and at the high end of the optimal range (91 - 100). Exercising due diligence in the face of their gross errors and coercion does not make me an anxious, it makes me a responsible person looking out for and balancing my overall health. Allergies should be in the chart and be automatically addressed and, most important, taken seriously with respect for the patient's "overall" health. I am very, extremely disappointed in Island Dental. read more
