I am a snowbird down here on Anna Maria Island FL. for the winter and I had a horrible tooth ache. I went to Island Dental Spa today, and I was totally blown away. Dr. Ruzanov was absolutely wonderful. The office was the state of the art with high tech equipment. He listened, and took an X-ray and explained what he thought was wrong and what options I had. He provided me with a prescription to help my infection, until I can get back home to see an Endondontist. If I lived here in Florida I would definitely make Dr. M. I have to start by saying, I do not ever leave reviews. But my experience at Island Dental Spa has far exceeded any expectations I had and deserves way more recognition than this review. They really get every detail right...parking is convenient, the office is welcoming and well maintained (seriously, it even smells great), scheduling and communication are done with ease, and the entire staff is obviously well qualified and great at what they do--always making for a pleasant experience. But if you're looking for a truly exceptional dentist, Dr. Maks is bar none. Not only is he an extremely skilled dentist who pays great attention to detail, he is genuinely compassionate and kind. Even when you're sure there's no way you could be, he makes you feel at ease. He is incredibly gentle and takes great care to ensure you are not in pain. You could not ask for a better dentist. Dr de la Riva (Mariano) has been my dentist since opening his practice in Holmes Beach. He's friendly and fair but even more important he's a dental artist with a true empathy for his patients. Another reviewer commented that "he was one of the gentlest dentists I've ever had work on my mouth" and I must agree. In dental emergencies over the past few years (Nibbler is no youngster so these things happen) he and his staff have immediately responded to quickly fix my problems. He's always had state of the art technology in his office, but I was especially dazzled when Dr. D did a replacement crown for me last week. Hidden in the back room he has investments that other less caring dentists would have spent on a Ferrari. Or two. His equipment enables him to create an accurate 3D picture of your teeth, and to produce durable replacement crowns on the spot, rather than waiting days with uncomfortable temporary teeth. Check out my pix to see it. Bottom line, Mariano is a great dentist with a passion for excellence who cares for his patients. I now live about 45 minute off the island and his care is worth the trip. read more

Dr. Max and the excellent staff made a new crown for me today and I can honestly say I have never had a better dentist. It is not cheap at Island Dental Spa, but it is so worth every penny. I have seen Mariano (do I need to call him Dr De La Riva?) as my dentist over a couple year period and he was one of the gentlest dentists I have ever had work in my mouth. I had some severe damage that required lots of work and he was always very aware of my comfort level and thoroughly explained procedures before he started work on them. I am extremely picky when it comes to finding a dentist. I spent the last 3 years trying to find a good dentist. I trusted one in Bradenton to do my fillings, and it was the most painful experience ever. After receiving on the mail a postcard from island dental spa I decided to have my initial consultation. I knew from the moment I schedule the appointment that this one would be the one. I am so happy i found island dental spa. De la riva examined my teeth and noticed I had an incomplete root canal on one of my molars that always ached a little for years since the root canal was done. No one has ever told me this. He decided to redo the canal and I have to say it was PAINLESS, I couldn't feel a thing. I am so impressed with Dr. De la Riva knowledge and how up to date he's office is. Their fees weren't as high as I expected. I would say about the same to some of the dentist I went in the last few years. Shannon was great filling the claim to my dental insurance. I also got my teeth clean by Michelle and I absolutely love her. She did the best cleaning I ever had. read more

For me, finding a good dentist is quite complicated. I am just not comfortable. Anyway, I had a great experience with Island Dental Spa where Dr. de La Riva did a Crown on me and I didn't even felt it! All the staff made me feel at ease and the experience was really good, which is a lot from a visit to a Dentist. Now, I am doing some Invisalign which I think is great. I had a very unfortunate and unpleasant experience at this office, and it had nothing to do with the quality of dental work, since I had none done. Here's the story: I was in the midst of a bad tooth problem, which had begun in California where my regular dentist is, included an emergency root canal in Germany, and involved some serious pain. I called and made an appointment with the closest dentist I could find to my home, hoping for some relief for the pain. When I got there, I was offered coffee, tea, or wine. After a while, I was ushered in to the dental office but before sitting down, I was asked to stand against the wall for some digital photographs. Then I got into the chair and more digital photos were taken, this time involving stretching my lips and jaw wide open. This was followed by a slew of xrays. During all this I kept asking what the photos and multiple xrays were about -- I had a toothache in a specific area and wanted relief from that. I was told this was their "standard procedure" for "new patients." Finally a dentist came in, asked a lot of questions about my dental "situation", took further xrays, and concluded that there was "something going on" at the root of one tooth and I needed to see a endodontist. He said he would make me an appointment with one and did so. On my way out I was given a bill for $250. (My visit to the endodontist the next morning ended with the conclusion that it was actually another tooth that was the problem.) I called the office the next day and said that I did not consider the bill I had received was appropriate; I had never been told what the "new patient" procedure was and how much it would cost; that my need was immediate relief for an aching tooth, not a dental makeover. The next day they called me back and told me that $95 would be removed from my bill. Here's my problem: I believe I should have been informed up front about this "standard" procedure for new patients (which I have never encountered before), how much it would cost, and told whether or not this dentist was prepared to deal with a raging toothache or not. Perhaps this is "standard" for this office and maybe most clients are OK with it. I have a regular dentist and was looking for palliative treatment, not cosmetic reconstruction.If you go there, be sure you know what you are getting in for. Don't be seduced by the "spa" or the wine. I think it is a rip-off. read more

While vacationing in Holmes Beach, my husband visited Island Dental Spa, Dr. de la Riva (Mariano) to recement a crown. I highly recommend this practice! Due to the problem, he was the able to see the Dr. the same day and the bonus was he accepted our insurance . The Dr. and staff are very professional and extremely nice. Nice enough Dentist at Island Dental Spa but after I got a 2nd opinion, I found that I had been over charged & did not need a new crown. The facts: A crown that had fallen out was temporarily cemented by Island Dental Spa at a cost of $310.00. I was told that the entire crown would have to be redone at a cost range of $1,300 - $1,600. The temporary cement loosened & the crown fell out after 1.5 days & 3 days before the new crown was to be done (over New Years weekend). Their office was closed on Monday Jan 2, 2017 so I went to another dentist on the Island. Dentist #2 found that I did not need a new crown & charged me 1/4 of what Island Dental Spa did to take an x-ray & re-cement the loosened crown. I went back to Island Dental Spa the next day to explain the situation & ask for a refund. The Patient Coordinator became confrontational & belligerent which honestly made me defensive. After a small wait I had the opportunity to explain to the Dentist the situation & why I wanted a refund. While he stood by his original diagnosis he agreed to a partial refund. During the refund process the Patient Coordinator continued her arguing & belligerence. Had she exhibited better customer service skills initially I would not be writing this review. Questions: "why would Dentist #2 not do a new crown & make the money doing so if it was needed" & "why wouldn't they handle complaints/refunds in the same non-confrontational manner as we've become accustomed to at retailers"? Again, nice enough Dentist at Island Spa & I appreciate his partial refund but his Patient Coordinator lacks the skills to be in that position. Take away: Second opinions & price checking are sometimes warranted. read more

I asked for a second opinion on some implants that I had done in the Caribbean. This they agreed to and gave me a short load of mumbo jumbo in no lay mans terms. They took a at least 12 x-rays and as many pictures. I did not get any of the x-rays and only one picture. They however took my money for something which was to me a complete waste of time. All they are interested in here is cosmetic stuff, in my opinion the dental equivalent or "Nip & Tuck"! I fully agree with the other review of this company. You get the impression they exist to extract money not teeth! read more
