We had an amazing time on the Southern Wave sunset cruise in South Padre Island! We went to…read morecelebrate our anniversary, and even though it was cloudy and the sun didn't really make an appearance, it was still such a beautiful and memorable evening. The atmosphere was relaxing, and there was a guy playing guitar and singing, which made the whole experience even better. The dinner was amazing. They started us off with shrimp, then served chicken and beef fajitas, grilled fish, and fruit cups for dessert. Everything was delicious. I also loved that it was BYOB, so we were able to bring our own drinks and enjoy the evening our way. Such a fun and special experience. I would definitely recommend Southern Wave, especially for a celebration or special occasion!

Sooo, this is where I chose to spend my birthday weekend, and we left a bit disappointed. When you…read morearrive, at first glance, you get that resort feel with the grand entrance. Check in was easy, then we went to our "unit". There is currently construction going on near where we stayed, and we were very close to the golf course. Their units are similar to duplexes, but with 2 lower unites and a greater middle unit. We stayed in the bigger unit, which had a huge bedroom with king bed, jacuzzi tub, full kitchen, living room, and it was 2 stories. You have a quaint little patio with chairs that overlooks the water, which was a nice touch. The unit itself was in poor condition. Yellow stains on the ceilings, roaches, ants, termites, and other bugs we found crawling around or dead. Scracthes, loose door handles, and cracked tiles were abundant. The breakfast "buffet" was a joke! There was no buffet as advertised. This was simply an available breakfast that could be brought out to you, and was part of that which was covered by your "coupon". I have a severe egg allergy, so the eggs bacon, sausage, refried beans and potatoes prepared wasn't something I could thoroughly enjoy. Therefore, we had to order from their overpriced resort menu. A small stack of pancakes, biscuits and gravy, and waffle were all around $8 EACH. Gym facility was pretty nice; though, ants were always seen crawling at the base of the windows. The day before we left, found goftballs near our NEW car! Be mindful of where you are in relation to the course. This was something we never thought of when we arrived. Overall, we will likely not be going back to this resort. Far too many bugs sharing the space, and my breakfast each morning was honestly, a rip off.

Isla Blanca Park in South Padre Island, TX, is home to El Cristo de los Pescadores or "Christ of…read morethe Fishermen" statue. My first thought was how huge the statue was. This depiction of Jesus Christ was created in the late '90s in memory of Gustavo De La Lastra and Jose Edwardo De La Lastra. Their June 1988 deaths by asphyxiation aboard a shrimp boat occurred "after using a chemical preservative on their catch." A lawsuit by the parents against chemical's manufacturer, General Chemical Corporation, ensued. I didn't know about this tragedy beforehand, however, the statue remained absolutely beautiful. I wish that the island wasn't so trashy on May 28, 2025 when my daughters and I visited. If that wasn't enough, daily vehicle passes were $12. I'd probably go here to view SpaceX launches from afar, but not to RV camp. It looked so crowded! Once all forms were filled out they were pretty swift at getting us the cart. About an hour after leaving our steering wheel started acting funny, we went back to see if they would switch it, not only did they, they also upgraded us to a 6 seater for the inconvenience. Aside from the owner or shop manager who was very offensive and inappropriate towards my friend making sexual comments when getting the cart initially, it would have been a great experience.
