Do not waste your money shopping at this store!! They do not stand behind the quality of their products!! While vacationing in OC a little over a week ago, my daughter purchased an Aviator Nation matching set from Island Gypsy. She brought it home and put it on to show me. I noticed that it looked like there was a loose seam on one of the pant legs. She had already removed the paper tag from the pants because she liked the set and thought she was keeping it. She didn't realize there was a hole in the seam until I pointed it out to her. The plastic from the tag was still attached. I drove down to OC about 10 days later and went into the store thinking I could exchange them for a new pair. I approached the manager and showed her the pants and my receipt and asked to exchange them. She told me there was nothing they could do because the tag was removed. I told her this was a quality issue, it was clearly a loose seam which is a manufacturer issue and the store should stand behind the quality of their products, tag or not. You could see that they were never worn, never washed, and brand new. She refused and said there was nothing they could do and that their return policy was posted all over the store. Will not be returning back this boutique. The store manager an older woman with grey hair was incredibly rude as I went to try on an item. Additionally, the pricing of the clothing did not appear to match the quality. Most of the garments were comprised of polyester, poor fabrics, felt cheap, and were made in china. These items felt like something that could be purchased on Amazon. If your willing to spend around this price point for a quality item Anthropologie, free people, etc. are much better options quality and service wise. Clothes are cute, however they are very expensive and the quality of the clothing is very cheap. when trying on my clothes half of them are either broken or have a stain on them. Also, the manager is a rude old lady. She is always bossing the workers around and doesn't even give her customers the time of day. The store is located in the heart of ocean city in a beautiful building that used to be a bank. The store is very well organized, the display and the bright natural light makes it all very inviting. The employees on the floor are so present that there's a feeling of being followed that's pretty unnerving. You can't try things on and you have 14 days to bring them back to get a refund to your original method of payment. read more

All you can hear in this place is obnoxious employees talking about each other, their boss and who knows what other annoying chatter..certainly not helping even 1 customer. Never going back to this store. For starters, horrible sales, holes in clothes. Their dresses barely cover your butt. Had the most horrible experience today though. In line for the dressing room and had been waiting a while. Moved up in line so I went to look at some of the clothes and this grumpy old lady behind the desk yells at me to get back behind the mannequin even tho I was looking at her products. Horrible customer service. Purchased a dress for my daughter. She didn't wear until weather was warmer. She removed the tag & we noticed a hole in it. Store still had the dress but wouldn't exchange or even give store credit cause the tag was removed, which we still had & it was past their ridiculous 2 week return policy. All the department stores surrounding island gypsy were permitting patrons to try clothes on. If you return the items, you pay for postage. Had the WORST experience with a manager here. I specifically asked the return policy from her and was told that I was able to return my item within 14 days with tags and receipt. I returned it FOUR Hours later for the same woman to now tell me that there is no cash refunds and she would have never mislead me to believe otherwise when I told her I specifically asked before buying it she told me that was her policy even though that was not the policy told to me before I bought the item. He's 19 works hard he didn't know the store owners is trying to hide cash and cheat the government! My wife now has $100.00 gift card and $35.00 dollar return to use that of course she won't shop there we will just sell it for less just to get rid of it. I've spent a lot of money here over the past few years, but Linda the owner/manager is very off putting and rude to customers and her own staff which is very unprofessional. If I could give this place no stars I would. The merchandise here isn't anything great. It is cheap quality material. I also don't understand their pricing methods here. It seems they let the younger girls that work here slap on a price and hope someone will pay it. My rating isn't based on the clothing because after what I experienced I wasn't going to buy anything here. I went to try on clothing. There were two girls there (maybe 15 years old) chit chatting and gossiping. It took them a minute to look up and open the dressing room. While I was in there, they kept going back and forth between the fitting room area and the back room. There was a guy in there that told them to go back out on the floor when the one girl told him to "shut the f*ck up", loud enough for people to hear. She then started complaining about the guy. Horrible customer service!! I am a local and loved this store and I would shop there ALL the time!! However, not after this last Friday when I bought a few items. One of them was a maxi dress for $54 to be exact. I wore that dress out that same night and it broke. The strap completely snapped off. I had to use safety pins to keep my top up at the restaurant. I called on Saturday to explain the situation. $54 is A LOT to spend on a dress that breaks the first time you wear it. They told me they don't take returns after items are worn. (I never asked for a return)..I asked if I could get the same dress but an non damaged one...nope again. I could hear the manager or owner in the background as the employee was talking to her and she was so disrespectful! I don't know how this small business will survive when they treat their customers the way they do. read more

I went to this store from a friend's recommendation. I got all three size large but no dressing rooms. Spent $200 on three dresses- but chose to treat myself. For reference, I'm 21yrs old, 5'7 and 150 lbs. average built. Brought all home, one fit but was so short it didn't even cover my butt. Second one I couldn't even get over my stomach- which is probably the smallest part of my body. The third fit, but was also basically a cover up so I didn't really expect it not to and would've been surprised if it didn't, but it was also so short it basically showed my rear as well if I bent over. Needless to say, I'm returning all three tomorrow. I do not recommend supporting a store that promotes such awful body dysmorphic sizing. All this store did was make me feel completely awful about myself and my body. I have never been more disappointed in a store. If you do not offer large sizes, DO NOT Mark them as such. On a separate note, there were six workers in the store, all extremely fit white girls with perfect makeup and features. As you can see on their Facebook page, this is apparently a common theme. I have never seen such blatant lack of inclusivity in a store and it was sad. This store needs to step out of 1980. My girls love this store; I think they shop here every weekend during the summer. One of my daughters bought a bunch of stuff last weekend, and asked me to return some of the items this weekend ... no receipt, but tags still on. I called and asked if this would be possible, and the manager said if I knew the date, and any other information like the total purchase amount, number of items, etc. that would help them track it down. Simple: just find the debit card transaction online. My wife and I went there a few hours later (yes, there is a special entrance for returns, at a side door; one at a time, and there are multiple signs. This is a great system during Covid.) When it was our turn, the girl said "We were wondering when you would get here!" The manager had prepped her on how to do our return without a receipt! She took down the info, went around the corner, and 30 seconds later came back with the receipt showing the refund. All in all, a very organized, helpful, and great experience. No wonder my girls like it here so much! And no wonder they're always so busy! read more

First of all, there are way too many employees on one shift working for the horrible service they provide. Also overheard the employees talking bad about customers right behind their backs and swearing multiple times. My entire family spent over $1000 there and were all completely stressed out by the experience. Maybe hiring professional adults would be in their best interest. My husband, our chocolate lab and I visited the store a month ago. As usual, we spent over 200.00, which we do most times we are there. I picked out several items, took one shirt to Napa Valley with me and when I put it on, found out it was pants/a jumper. My daughter is a size 2. While there, I asked her to try it on. She couldn't get it to fit. Obviously, I made a mistake!! When I tried to get credit for the unworn item the other day, the very same manager who sold it to me said, " oh, I can't take it back without tags". Well, I pulled the tag out. Then she saud, " no, we can't take it without a receipt" and told me to look for it. This wasn't the end of it. She then said," I THOUGHT you tried it on"???!!. I've never had a bad experience here. The staff has always been helpful and friendly. If you're concerned about the crowds, maybe don't travel to OC during the summer. I shop here during the off season and they have really great deals after summer ends. The styles are super cute and contrary to what some people have said, they do carry clothes that fit average sized women. I've found really pretty outfits here that fit myself and my friends, sizes 6-14. read more

if there was a way to give this store zero stars i would. the customer service here is ATROCIOUS. i bought a WAY overpriced tank top yesterday that had buttons on it, as soon as i got home and tried it on one of the buttons exploded and popped off. the material was ruined around it and it wouldn't even go back in. i took it back to the store, with the receipt and they refused to do anything because i had "worn" the shirt. i was literally bawling my eyes out at the front of the store as the woman at the front body shamed me and told me "i just put too much stress on the buttons" and that "if i had simply just not buttoned it up this wouldn't have happened". FIRST OF ALL i was never told not to button up the shirt, and how is it my fault the fabric was so poorly made? I bought a sweater a week ago. I wore it once and washed it according to the directions. My entire wash load was covered in lint from the sweater. There were multiple strings hanging from the bottom and around the neck of the sweater that were tangled in knots. There were also fuzzy pills all over it. I tried to return it as it was defective. I was told it was not returnable because I wore it. This merchandise was clearly defective and not wearable. They told me I should cut the strings off of it and wear it. I enjoy shopping on Asbury Avenue and often bring our guests to Island Gypsy. I will be sure to pass on to my friends and family the unprofessional customer service provided by this establishment.
