This is the second summer our family has taken surf lessons during our trip to Ocean City!!! We can not say enough about this shop and instructors. Our group of 7 kids ranging in age from 6 to 12 were able to participate in a group lesson and successfully get up on their boards. Even the 6yo was able to get up in his board by himself by the end of the lesson. Lessons taken place across the boardwalk from the shop at the surf only beach. Our son took a lesson with Matt (it was a group lesson but only 2 people in it so it was like a private lesson) and liked it so much we signed up for another group lesson later in the week. All the instructors were excellent and made it fun for the kids as well. The price for a two hour group lesson was only $45 and includes the wet suit and the board, such a bargain. Yay. Love the surf shop. Loved it more when they sold the convertible Reef sandals that I wore like a religion for years. But it's not their fault Reef stopped manufacturing (bastards!) 7th Street is not a junk shop like so many shops on the Boardwalk. They sell actual surfing and body boarding equipment, sex wax, wet suits, bathing suits, sandals, towels, suntan lotion ect. Don't expect to get a deal at 7th Street. They're selling their gear at fair market value prices and surfing is not a cheap hobby, especially if you're unfortunate enough to jack up your board on the rocks. So if you're in OC and you need surfing gear, this is the place to get it. They also offer surfing lessons as well. read more

My 18 year daughter & 15 year old niece had their very first surfing lesson yesterday & the guys at 7th Street Surf Shop were AMAZING!! BOTH girls got up on their boards & were able to ride a few waves by end of the lesson! The staff made it so much fun & created a phenomenal atmosphere where everyone felt welcomed! Matt was awesome & started the new surfers mornings off with an upbeat personality & plenty of comedy! We signed them up for the group lesson. There were about 11 new surf students of varying ages with good mix of male & female. There were 4 surf instructors on ground & in the water advising students in when to paddle, which waves to grab! We did the semi private lessons with 3 kids and 2 instructors. This was the highlight of our vacation for our 14 and 11 year old sons. My 15 year old daughter and I (48 yrs old) took our first surfing lessons from 7th Street Surf Shop on 7/11/22. It was an amazing experience. The staff in the store were very friendly and helpful as soon as we arrived. They let us know what to expect and got us set up with wetsuits and boards. Our instructor, Jack, was a great teacher and was very friendly and patient. We spent a few minutes on the sand with our boards going over some safety rules and then he taught us how to pop up on the board. Once we were in the water, Jack was right next to us helping us get used to the board and the waves. He did a great job working with us both and helping us catch our first waves. He was tireless in staying close to us when we needed some additional assistance. We couldn't have asked for a better first surfing experience. Afterwards, Jack answered some of our questions on what types of boards to look for, etc. because we definitely plan to be back in the surf again very soon! I took the group lesson. I had so much fun that I joined again a week later. The instructors are extremely knowledgeable, fun, and helpful. The first time we had a pretty rough wave. It was a lot more difficult to learn surfing when the wave kept pounding on you one after one. The second time the condition was a lot calmer. I was able to stand up half of the time. And in the end, I was able to catch waves on my own. I highly recommended it. read more

I had my first surfing lesson with 7th Street Surf Shop last week. I had a group lesson with about twenty other people; it only cost $35 for the lesson, the board rental, and the wetsuit rental. You can also get private lessons but they're a bit more expensive. These guys know their shit and are SUPER friendly and patient. I'm not even remotely athletic, or coordinated, but I managed to catch a few waves after my instructor gave me some very specific pointers after watching me faceplant in the water a few times. I definitely plan on going back at least one more time this summer for another lesson! It's also worth noting that the stretch of beach they use for the lessons is fantastic - no rocks or anything to get hurt on, and the water is pretty gentle for the most part. It's a designated surfer's beach but there were a lot of non-surfers in the water and near the shore, which made me a little nervous - I nearly took out a family of three when my board got away from me (despite the leash. It's a long leash). I feel like the beach should be patrolled a little better so that no one gets hurt accidentally. read more

During our vacation week both my boys wanted to try surfing. We meet Matt D. and signed up for lessons with him. He was kind, fun, patient, knowledgeable and gave both my boys an experience and memories they will forever remember. Took my first surf lesson and it was pretty awesome. I worked mostly with Matt and he was a very good instructor and was very entertaining. He kept it light and laid back, but also educational. I'm 46 years old coming off 2 back surgeries and Matt was very encouraging the whole time. I was actually able to Stand up 6 times (out of about 25 or so tries) which was better than I expected. Overall it was a great experience and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to try surfing and have a good time. read more

Wow, am I impressed! We had arranged for 2 instructors with 3 kids for an hour. We had an issue, and when I called the manager, he was immediately helpful, directing me to the excellent Samantha who was on the beach for customer service. She immediately went into action to help us and assured me that we would be taken care of. They took care of everything and we had a fabulous session with Ethan and Jack who were wonderful instructors for our kids. They were so generous and thoughtful. These are young people running this operation and they are well trained and know how to show that they value their customers. We will definitely be back. read more

Can't say enough about instructors at 7th St Surf Shop. My daughter took her first group lesson 4 years ago and loved it so much she requested some private lessons. Her instructor, Adam was very professional and knowledgeable. Fast forward 3 years and my son had his first group lesson, with Matt as the master of ceremonies. Matt is a true people person and passionate about teaching people to surf. Now I have 2 surfers in the family and they enjoy their time at the beach that much more.
