This maybe a long read but it's 100% non-solicited review of a fantastic contractor. I recently was introduced to Big Johnson's Concrete and Pumping through my pool contractor. We needed to get our driveway replaced. Kevin came in and bid the job and provided a very reasonable and respectable quote which included the driveway approach/apron. In my city, public works scrutinizes the contractors for approach work thankfully. The other competing contractors on my job would not take not the approach work for either not possessing the proper bond or expertise. Kevin worked with the city and our HOA to get on board. The work came out so well the Public Works department provides Big Johnson's as a referral for other residents looking to pull an approach permit/plan. The driveway worked out so well I contacted Kevin two months later to tackle the hardscape work for my front yard landscape/hardscape project. He just finished up a fantastic wash finish expanded front porch and walkways. I couldn't be happier. His crew is fast and work well together. I found The Masonry Company on Yelp and Google and saw nothing but five star ratings, so i called Felix, the owner, to come out and give me a quote. He responded the next day, inspected our proposed job, and gave us a quote that was very reasonable. He seemed very humble, honest, and gave me references to check. Suffice it to say, we hired him to stucco our backyard block walls to match our house that consisted of two walls 145x6ft, one 80x6ft, and retaining wall about 160x3ft. I am so glad I hiredFelix!!! He and his crew started the next week, spent 8 straight days putting a brown coat and stuccoing our walls. Felix and his crew were awsome!!! They worked everyday from 7:30 am till either 4 or 5 pm everyday and stayed on our job from start to finish!. Cement and stucco work is very messy, but each day they cleaned up as though they weren't here. Suffice it to say, they did a beautiful job on our walls and we were extremely pleased with the job Felix and his crew did from start to finish!. In early 2023 I used Palu Concrete Construction to resurface the sidewalk and driveway ramp and I…read moreREGRET using this company because of the AMATEURISH work they do. 1) After the new cement was poured on the sidewalk and driveway ramp and it was still wet, they did not use yellow caution tape or anything as barricade to keep people from walking on it while it dried because he did not have any. I had to use my own rope for the barricade. 2) In the last several months, I noticed that the cement is chipping/breaking off in different areas of the driveway ramp (even though my family park our cars in the street and rarely use the driveway ramp) and there is one hole in the sidewalk! When I called to ask David, the owner, why this is happening, he said that he did not know but he used good cement and did a great job. I then asked him to come to my house for an inspection but he said that the warranty is only for 12 months and he refused. He never provided me with a written receipt because he was out of them at the time. For verification, I spoke with another contractor, who informed me that the hole and the chipping are likely due to not thoroughly mixing the cement, which can lead to lumping/clumping in the cement mix. See attached pictures. 3) David did a horrible job of reinstalling the red bricks on one border. They are noticeably crooked and uneven compared to the rest of the original bricks, which were installed about 30 years ago. See attached pictures. For comparison, I inspected my neighbor's sidewalk and driveway ramp, which was done by another contractor about 4-5 years ago and I did not notice any chipping, cracking or holes and the overall workmanship looked very professional compared to the work done by this amateurish company.
