I purchased a hat at this store which was ticketed at $35. Rhode Island does not have sales tax. When I noticed I was charged $39.50 I requested a refund of the $4.50 to be put towards a purchase Of another item. The sweet employee called her manager Gregory Hall who told her they "do not do that" and they would not give me back my money. I believe the item was mismarked and it rang up in the register as $39.50. However, it was tagged at $35. This is Not about the $4.50. It is the principal of the matter. Do the right thing. They would have actually made More Money from me if they just admitted their mistake. I was born and raised in Newport and I was home visiting family. As others have already said, the customer service in this store is abysmal. The young woman who waited on me was on her phone and never got off it to wait on me. She simply put her phone on the counter and continued talking! There was no greeting when we walked in, no "thank you" when we left. I will walk past this store the next time I am in Newport. read more

I was visiting Newport for the weekend with my family. On Sunday, Sept 27, around one o'clock while walking and shopping on Thames Street, we went into Island Outfitters to shop for clothes for my wife and daughter. The store was almost empty. There were two young girl sitting behind the counter and both were engrossed with their cellphones. They didn't bother to greet us or offer any customer assistance whatsoever. They didn't even say anything as we walked out of the store. They were so engrossed in whatever they were doing on their phones, it was like their personal business was much more important than working. We left without buying a thing. I couldn't in good conscious give money to a business that treats their customers with such disdain. I hope the owner of this store realizes hiring vapid self-absorbed young girls, who are more concerned with their social media than they are with doing their job, is a terrible business decision. read more

The staff was incredible in getting it to us, and even refunded our shipping costs when the item didn't arrive on time -- even though it was not their fault. Solid, but not revolutionary Vineyard Vines collection. Long ago, I found the most amazing custom Vineyard Vines bowtie - a custom Block Island and whales pattern on sky blue that has been the jewel of my bowtie collection. Unfortunately, I only bought one, and I've spent the last three years fruitlessly searching for it's partner. Imagine my anticipation when I made the trip out to Newport at this official Vineyard Vines retailer. No dice. Don't get me wrong - the story was excellently outfitted with current season ensembles for both men and women, along with a reasonable necktie collection. Bowties? About ten. And all from the standard collection. What a disappointment. This is odd when compared to similar stores (North River Outfitter by MGH in Boston), which at least offer multiple Custom Collection ties including those of local colleges, the Red Sox, etc. Even the official Boston/Prudential Vineyard Vines store stocks a healthy collection of Harvard ties. For such a nice Newport retailer, I expected more. Otherwise, staff is very helpful, and the location is far enough down Thames Street as to make street parking a real possibility. read more

The two ladies working were just talking very lpudly to each other and it seemed that they just did not care. Stunningly rude shop assistant!!! In here yesterday and was all generally normal behavior. Today i was looking at shoes and asked a shop assistant who was folding clothes if they had then in my size. The response was word for word "you must see that im busy". ......I was actually speechless for a few seconds which is unusual and then told her that the likelihood of buying anything here was below zero......or something similar. read more

The girls that work there are always so helpful with different styles and brands, and are some of the kindest retail employees I've met while in Newport.
