First off, a friend of mine had found Meg's work off of Instagram and suggested that I reach out to her. Mind you, I was planning an "enchanted elopement" in less than a week and a half. Luckily, since it was an elopement -- we were pretty flexible and so was Meg! My husband and I had never been to Hawaii so we knew nothing about the islands or Kauai. I tried to research as much I could but was a bit overwhelmed. Meg was more than happy to make suggestions on different vendors, location and what was the best time for shooting. We settled for Ke'e Beach. I am so glad she suggested that because it provided us different types of photos -- jungle, beach, sunset, etc. The timing was also perfect for a natural lighting with the sun and waves. Meg's overall presence and personality matched ours, too. From previous photographers I have dealt with (from my family & friend's weddings), she did not push us to do things we weren't comfortable with. She was so laid back! Also, we aren't the most romantic and subtle type of couple. We are the loud and silly type. She was able to capture us perfectly in the photos! After she spent about 3 hours with us, we went our separate ways. Then a couple of hours later, I received a few sneak peak photos!! How awesome is that! I got the remainder of my photos in less than two weeks. She took more than she had promised too! Now, I want to add that I am in the film & tv industry. I booked Ikaika about a hidden proposal in Haena Beach Park a month before proposing in March 2025. I was unsure about location to propose so Ikaika consulted me on a phone call about potential locations and times available. He was very detailed and thorough about pros and cons and tailored his service towards my preferences. Ikaika also offered back up time slots in case other circumstances changed our scheduled shoot. Ikaika was responsive throughout the day of the photoshoot. Proposing is stressful enough and Ikaika made the coordination process seamless. Our photos came out incredible and better than I could have imagined! Ikaika captured the moment perfectly and I am so happy to have these photos to reflect and share for the rest of my life! I choose swell amongst all the Kauai photographers because the price was very reasonable, included free download of the pictures and touch-up. I truly felt comfortable when Kristen (Swell Photographer/owner) called me after my initial inquiry email to answer any questions, locations and ideas, she exemplified the Aloha spirit. When we arrived in Kauai, the weather was not in my favor on my booked session. No worries, Kristen accommodated my request to move the session. Additionally, my fiancée and I decided to bring our wedding gown and suit to Kauai, so we can take pre-wedding pictures instead. If your getting married, take as many pictures in your wedding dress because the day of the wedding is not enough time. So I choose to take my pictures 1 hour before sunset on the South side at Mahaulepu Beach. Kristen got pictures with the mountains behind us, sail boat, black rock, sand, oceans and etc. All the pictures turned out perfect without touch ups but I did get some touch ups with my hair and people in the background. The process was fast and simple--find an available date on their calendar, and either pay a deposit or the full amount. We booked a mini session. For a family of 3-6, the shoot is 30 minutes and you receive 20 photos. In addition to that, I added the sneak peek package. Since we were visiting Kauai from California, I did what most people would do when they vacation--check the weather app. It showed rain for the entire week! You can imagine how devastated I felt. I sent an email and asked for their recommendation on how to proceed. They reassured me that island weather is pretty tricky and no weather app is ever accurate. I trusted their judgement, and it gave me confidence to move forward. Fast forward to the day of the shoot. We shot at Kalapaki Beach--a beautiful, iconic beach. It did not rain, but it was overcast a bit for a period of time. That didn't bother me because they took great photos. We're grateful for their patience with our two rambunctious boys (ages 3 & 5). They worked so well with them, and our boys felt really comfortable. At one point, Kayli asked our youngest to "run to Uncle Matt" and I thought that was sweet--felt like we were treated like family. On top of that, they made sure we got all the shots we wanted--I think we may have went over the 30 minute limit. But I could tell they enjoy taking photos to get the best shots. They are so great to work with. At the end of the shoot, Kayli had a special surprise for our boys. She had them pick three things from a Magic Box full of small trinkets and toys. What a sweet and thoughtful gesture! Our boys loved it. Overall, our experience was lovely. From their first response to post photoshoot.
