I also ordered pick up for just myself another time. Lots of dessert & pre-made meal choices. Even if you're just stopping for something to drink, you'll enjoy browsing through the little shop. They're focused on Italian specialty items but have a mix of other goods there too. Staff are always friendly & are very patient with my packing logistics so I can carry everything myself while using my cane. There's seating inside & on the patio. I'm yet to go early enough in the day to enjoy the patio or on a nicer weather day but I do appreciate the very sturdy ramp up to the restaurant/shop doors & patio. Decent amount of parking too. Quick to drive to from Duncan & I first noticed this place when I took Lake Road for different views. Immediately off the main road but pay close attention to google maps (or whatever you use) when you're driving to the restaurant. As you see the sign & restaurant after you should be slowing down to turn into driveway. By my third visit, I knew what to look for & I didn't have to circle back. Looking forward to stopping here in 2026 & trying more items off the menu.

Come with me and you'll be In a world of pure imagination…read moreTake a look and you'll see Into your imagination Yes, to me, this place is the cheese equivalent of Willie Wonka's Chocolate Factory - cheese, glorious cheese, for your sampling pleasure. And not just any cheese, prize winning cheeses! After gorging ourselves on fruit wine and cheese samples we took our purchases, accompanied by Stryder, the adorable big black poodle farm dog, to their lovely picnic area. It even has a sink for you to wash your hands before you eat, since it is impossible to resist petting all of the baby animals that you encounter along the way. They provide a self-guided tour map for you to explore this working farm with very few limitations. They only ask that they respect their property and that you leave it in the pristine condition that you found it. For those familiar with their cheese products from stores or farmer's markets, this store sells some artisan cheeses that you won't necessarily find in the other stores. Their factory is undergoing a major refurb which will not be complete for a short while so we were not able to do a factory tour but that by no means diminished our visit.

We like this farm and often come here with kids and we like the milk , eggs and cheese off course…read more The only thing I'm concerned is Monday closure. It is so unexpected to be closed on Monday, and we often drive from Nanaimo just to come back with nothing. It's really disappointing, maybe you can consider to have at least one worker to be there on Mondays so people can buy milk and something else.

Special shout-out to the heavenly cheese selection and the cute and clean premises. They also have an Italian pork jowl that I can't find anywhere else in town. Considering the rising price of eating out (and junk food), I will get myself some fancy treats here every week instead.

We got a LOT of stuff there, including crackers, pate, cheeses, jams, and a bunch of other items, all of which sort of flatlined. Now, in McLean's defense, the pate and cheeses were the only things they brought in specifically under their name. And the place was EXTREMELY cute, and they served sandwiches, and the owner was friendly and on premesis, and they'd let you bring wine if you wanted... ...but really, everything flatlined. The fig crackers tasted like prunes. The sheep's brie was overly strong in flavor, almost off-tasting. The porter cheddar tasted like...plain cheddar. The pate was bland. One standout was a cheese (I forget the name) which had a line of gorgonzola down the centre. Really, of everything we bought, this is the only thing I'd consider re-purchasing. Now I don't want to rule this place out based on one trip, but it *was* expensive (some of the crackers and jams were way over-priced) and I *was* disappointed, considering how it's touted around town as being wonderful. I like to support local businesses, so I will be back to purchase a significantly smaller portion of cheese. Till then...

For one whole tote, delivered to the parking area beside our boat, the price was $35 in the early 2000s. One tote was enough to fill 3 or 4 ice chests, plus a couple of fish lockers on the boat. In recent year the aged woman who runs the place has been accusing us of "stealing Ice" and has raised the price every year. In July 2023 she raised it to $150, and told us the commercial fishermen were complaining because they used their own totes???? She also insisted on cash payment, which we suspect went directly into her own pocket. Beware the Ice Nazi of French Creek! We, nor our fellow fishermen, will ever again stop there.

First visit we bought shrimp cakes. You know if you don't mix jello enough, there's a layer of thick rubber at the bottom? That's the consistency of the shrimp cakes. The next time I asked if the crab cakes were any different, and she said if you don't like the consistency of the shrimp cakes, you're not going to like the consistency of the crab cakes. Second visit was for halibut. Not fresh, but apparently flash frozen and cut the same day as it is sold. Was extremely watery, so...... Third visit is a charm - or not! Fresh sockeye salmon for $27.99 a pound. They were not deboned so I spent half an hour deboning four fillets. Of the four, one still had a section of bone attached to the side which had to be trimmed. One fillet had a large section of fat that had to be trimmed. There goes about $6. Thrifty's and Quality Foods has better seafood - just sayin....
