My husband and I had two great experiences here while visiting our daughter. We dined on the patio for lunch and took out for dinner. We appreciated the variety in prepared foods we had to choose from for dinner and had the meatballs, lasagna and eggplant. For lunch, we had a fantastic chicken curry wrap and a panini. It's convenient to be able to purchase everything from coffee and pastries in the morning to wine at night. The staff were all very friendly and efficient. I suggest trying the curry chicken in a whole wheat wrap (runs you about $10). Pressed juices are already made and sitting on ice for $4.50 which is a steal compared to local juiceries. Is that a word? Beware there is lots of candy and ice cream in the entrance. Your child will make you buy something. My 16 month child insisted on a $7.99 toy fan that contained candy inside. read more

I live on Brickell and frequently walk to Brickell Key, I'm not a regular but I have been in Islander Marketplace a number of times. Today I went with my daughter who has also been there, we enjoy the open quiet space (eat in) and the prepared food and sandwiches are always good. Today we walked past the counter-no one at the cashier at that moment, and sat at the adjacent seating to eat (we've done the same before). About five minutes in, I hear someone shouting and thought maybe a fight broke out in the kitchen. As it turns out, it was the owner from behind the counter, shouting across the entire space at us, "hey, you must pay first", "hey, you must pay first", I turned to look and everyone in the market stopped to stare at my daughter and me; my daughter was humiliated and I was angry. On the way out, I went to the woman and asked if she were the owner, and she said yes. I asked her tongue in cheek, if they had problems with regular looking people chowing down Greek salads, then sprinting out the front door without paying only to blend in with the island's millionaires? She didn't understand, so I asked her why she didn't come to our table rather than shout across the restaurant, that we needed to pay first? She said she was sorry but... we needed to pay first! This market has all of the random things I love including great wines (Bordeaux, Italian, Sparkling, high end California), multiple international chocolates, coffee, shortbread cookies, and Diet Guarana. Like most of the building markets in Brickell, I found the shopkeepers to be very reserved with their customer service skills. They almost seem annoyed with their clientele. I don't know what happened here as this place started great and has fizzled into an average at best food quality spot. When I went here a couple days ago I found my egg salad sandwich to be bland and without any outstanding taste. My dad ended up throwing away the spinach and feta pie that he got. As far as a convenience store it will do the job but I'm not here for groceries. Let's get the food quality back where it belongs. It would be a real shame as this is one of only a handful of places to eat on Brickell Key. This place is very convenient for those who live in Brickell Key. Just a nice short walk, and there's 30 minute parking too if you're going in your car. I can always stop in and grab a few last minute things I might need for cooking. They also have wine, a selection of desserts, salad bar and little deli area, as well as small cafe area. I would like this place more if the staff were a bit more friendly. I just can't help but feel that customer service isn't very good, especially the ladies who work at the register- they're not too friendly. :( So that's my only issue with going there. read more

The Islander is a must-have for people living on Brickell Key. It's a great spot to pick up some missing essentials if you're cooking at home, or to pick up some prepared foods. They have a pizza oven and they make a decent slice. They have some nice baked goods as well. This location used to be a Gardner's and was then sold and became the Islander Marketplace. Some things have changed, but one constant remains...the sandwich station. They really do make a great sandwich and it could possibly be the best deal the store has to offer. Many items you'll find here, like milk, eggs, cheese, wine, etc. are overpriced. I'm sure that's due to two things...a captive audience of people living and working on the island and to cover what is undoubtedly high rent. As I just mentioned, try not to go here for the essentials unless absolutely necessary (as there is no value in these things), but be sure to try a sandwich and some of their prepared foods. Although, another warning is that their prepared foods used to be a much better value and now have become a bit pricey for a food that is not coming "made to order." Working on Brickell Key, there's not many dining options around, but luckily Islander is around to provide some great grub. I'm not lying when I say this place sells everything. A self-service salad bar, a sandwich station, hot food specials, by the pound food options, pizza made to order, burgers made to order and a good selection of desserts are only some of the goodies at Islander. I stick to the salad bar on most days, but I've tried a great deal of the food and it definitely hits the spot. No matter what you have a craving for - Islander can hook you up. Downside? This place is EXPENSIVE. No surprise as it's the main food locale in Brickell Key (unless you want to drop some serious bills at Azul at the nearby Mandarin Oriental). For those of us who live here you will understand where I am coming from when I write this. For those of us from the north(like me originally) you may not. When you live and work in Miami many of the blessings of living here are lost on us; not because we do not appreciate them...but because we are seldom ever there. We go to the ocean the same number of times as visitors (if we are lucky) and actually enjoy the great climate only once in a while. We head elsewhere to vacation. The Islander Marketplace has that feel of tranquil vacation that I knew growing up. Miami is a big city and has that big city hustle and bustle in most parts. When you are a local here you never get to enjoy that relaxing outdoor meal by the water. This place gives you that feel. When I go I usually order a pizza or a calzone if they are offering them that night. Their gelatto is outstanding and their selction of take away items are tasty as well. Like everyone else has said...the place is a little more expensive than other "marketplaces" but if you think of it as a restaurant it is actually quite affordable and quite enjoyable. My wife constantly goes to buy food or to eat lunch. I never saw why she would but until Saturday at 1:00 P.M. ,I was bored as hell and the TV wasn't working. Then 5 minutes later my wife asks me to go and get groceries with her and I thought " should I or not go with her?". But why not, I'm bored as hell. So we walk to place and first thing I see is a cafe and tomatoes painted on a wall. I go inside and first thing I see is a huge section of candy and chocolate. We looked at our grocery list and it said lettuce, broccoli, American cheese, turkey, steak, tomatoes, white bread, milk, cocoa puff cereal, potatoes, eggs, salmon, sausage, cream cheese, and dog food. The space was a little problem. The atmosphere was not fit. We got everything we needed here. But before I got to go back home, I grabbed a chocolate Hershey Bar. Wow this market is going down fall for the past 3 months, there is no selection of foods. They used to have more organic and variety of stuff, now everything is just plain horrible. Customer service is terrible and no one there is helpful. I asked to speak with the manager that was always there for many year and he doesn't work there anymore, he was the only helpful person. Wonderful little place on brickell key, just to the left after you cross the bridge. It's a cute little market with great cheese and wine as well as other gourmet leaning groceries. They also make great sandwiches - they have a huge selection but I tend to love the club on baguette, or chicken salad. They also have a nice salad bar and a section with prepared foods and salads behind a counter (like whole foods) and have a great selection of juices and regular and natural / different chips.
