My first visit here and I sort of wish I'd read the other reviews before I came here. If so, I would have come at a time where I was hungry and for a mere five dollars had them prepare my meal for me. But that being said, I found it to be a very nice fish market. Now there is a huge downside that you immediately encounter when you arrive. The neighboring lots have pretty clear signs that they will tell you if you park there. So you're stuck dealing with what it is. The fish variety is good, although not great. If you're looking for strictly local fish, you'll probably find what you want. Several varieties of snapper and the fish looked wonderful and fresh. Some of my favorites like hogfish and grouper. You can buy the whole fish and they'll fillet it for you or you can buy fillets if they have them of the fish that you want. But the part I missed is having them cook it for me. Now that is something I would like to try next time The downside is they strictly local fish. You won't find any flatfish and I was surprised that they did not have any U4 or U6 shrimp which I like to use to make paella. In addition, I did not see fresh scallops. They did have some nice lobster tails although I did not see other shellfish. Some people have said the prices are reasonable; I found them about 20 to 30% higher than other fish markets I visit. The people here are really nice in the market is attractive. I will be back as I said to get a meal cooked for me in part because it is closer than the fish markets I usually visit and also my curiosity after reading other reviews. They have the freshest seafood possible on display. Pick a fish or any other seafood, and they'll grill it up or fry it up for you to eat outside on their picnic tables, or you can get it to go. The sides are the typical South Florida side with heavy Cuban influence--white or yellow rice, beans, fried green plantains, and sometimes other offerings. If you have a larger group, you can have them fry up a 10 lb "pargo criollo", which is essentially a giant snapper. The meat is out of this world! If you're lucky enough to go on a day when they have "serrucho", I would recommend that you get that for sure. It's the juiciest swordfish I've ever had. I believe the English name for it is "sawfish." They get to be well over 10 lbs, so, again, they can deep fry the entire fish and you can enjoy it family style on one of the outdoor picnic tables. You can also get other terrific seafood, like spiny back lobster (no claws) and have them cut it up with their bench saw and sautéed it in butter and garlic. What a treat! Of course, you're in Miami, so if it happens to be stone crab season, this is a great place to get your fill. The local shrimp is also delicious. This fish market/seafood eatery is a hidden gem. We use to Love this place until I had a very unpleasant experience here a few years ago. They really tried to make things right but I was done with the place. My husband convinced me to give it a try again and Alberto "el calvito" (the bald guy) made every effort to convince us to come back as regulars. He is the cook and we have had his garlic lobster, fish, and black beans and white rice the last two Fridays, and they were fantastic. Last week we had the Snapper, this week we had the Corvina. Things also seem to be better in terms of their operations. So I'm happy to support this business. My son requested this place to celebrate his birthday. At first I was skeptical, since it really is more of a market than a restaurant, but it turned out to be an excellent choice! Our party of five ordered a whole yellowtail snapper fried, a whole hog snapper cut into two filets, a grouper sandwich, two lbs of stone crab claws, two lobster tails and 2 orders of the conch fritters. Everything was delicious! You can select the fish you want from the counter, request how you want it prepared and order the sides. We ended up getting one pound of medium stone crab for $35, conch fritters, one whole fried branzino, one cup of lobster bisque and French fries for $109. We ordered and got a table to sit with our buzzer in hand and they brought the stone crab out to us. Stone crabs were very fresh. And the mustard sauce was $2 extra and a must. It was my 5 year olds first time trying it and he didn't want to share after he tasted it. The fish was fried t to perfection and served with limes on the side. Even my picky 4 year old liked it. The conch fritters had a decent amount of conch in there and it was tasty. Lobster bisque was the only disappointing thing. There were no lobster that I can see in there. Crab pieces were few and boiled down into the smallest pieces. We came back and tried the fish tacos and the fish was served on a bed of rice on a tortilla.
