Quoted me $899. flat rate (meaning that this was what I was going to have to pay no matter what!)…read morefor a USB flash drive recovery and tried to claim that the process was extremely difficult and that no one else could handle it as well as they. Ended up going with another outfit and paid less than half what I was quoted by SERT, and when I informed "Todd" from SERT that I had paid $400. (which would have been $300. with the outfit I went with, except that my drive was encrypted so it cost an extra $100.) and recovered all of my data, Todd replied (after-the-fact of course) that I would have paid less with them, which is absurd based on that he was arguing beforehand about how his $899. fee was reasonable. It would appear that there are "two" Todds, because sometimes he replies with somewhat helpful messages and other times seems to be irritated and writes negative emails that appear to stem from insecurity and resentment that other companies out there are thriving charging far less for the same services. My advice would be to avoid SERT at all costs - from what I can see, this is another of those outfits that gets hold of your broken drive and then extracts whatever they can from you. My review is based on the inconsistent quality of customer service and that they quoted me $899. and assured me that no one could do the job for less, and then had the gall to try and claim that they would have done it for less, after I did find another outfit that did do the job of 100% data recovery. Very unprofessional attitude. In sum: this is how the "data recovery game" works: most all of these guys are more crooked than a barrel of snakes and will extract as much as they can out of you once they have your drive. Some will quote a very low initial price and then once they have your drive will quote something like three hours of work at average $300. per hour - others like SERT will quote you around a thousand right from the getgo - in sum, most of these guys try to get the magic figure of around $1000. from you. If you can, as I did, find a place with great reviews and a flat fee that is reasonable, go for it. Yes, data recovery is not cheap, yes it will cost you a few hundred dollars, but no, there is no reason to pay more than that, not even for "chip off" USB drive recovery, it still should not cost more than a few hundred dollars. Do not pay more than a few hundred regardless, hold your ground, and you won't go wrong. I gave them two stars (versus just one) because SERT was up front about price gouging - versus some of the others that lure you in with some hope that they will charge little, and then end up charging as much or more than SERT anyway. P.S. Be wary of five star reviews for companies that come from Yelpers with just a few reviews....

Our external hard drive with over a TB of data was 80% recovered and the turnaround time was less than 24 hours. The 20 years of videos, photos, and music was worth every single penny. Yes, there are cheaper places out there, BUT my IT friends all had the same recommendation, SERT. I did a Yelp quote with another business and even they recommended SERT. I would absolutely use Todd again. Again, yes it is super expensive, but this man has an amazing skill set and it is worth the price.

Dude took my birthday money and knew that was all the money I had to repair my computer he took it broke my speakers on my computer and charged me for something that didn't need to be fixed at all.. Mind you he did this goose chase for 8 to 12 months as my computer wouldn't charge so I would bring it back in to him to see if there were anymore problem that needed to be fixed he would fix it would be okay for less than a month then I would have to bring it in again as it would stop charging... He was not fixing a thing and was just fixing well enough to where he knew I would need it fixed again very soon when I brought it to Best Buy they said all I ever needed was a proper charger and take in mind Ballard had given me a charger the first time I came in but it was one that was the totally wrong charger when I showed the best guy computer repair people (I think it was geek squad) wasted 1k just to find out all I needed was a charger! We are poor and Ballard knew this bc I would tell him that this "is all the money for the month so hopefully it fixed" and would even tell him "we don't have any money for anything else except to fix my computer so I'm praying it's fixed this time".. he took my birthday money and knew he was going to only fix the computer well enough to where I would have to bring it in again ;-; he scammed me just a kid in college who didn't have any money mind you. Well thank you Ballard you took a kids birthday money hope you are proud of urself! I thought for months I could trust this man and he took me and my grandmas hard earned money we barely had for the month! This was also at a time my grandmother really was In need for any money we had because she was going through her chemotherapy for breast cancer so we could really needed this money instead Ballard get to have it all for himself and breaks my computer speaker offering a 10$ speaker that didn't match the sound of the speakers at all in replacement but let's be honest dude would have probably found a new way to charge me for them if the computer wasn't just old enough to where we couldn't find new speakers and we didn't have the money anymore to bring it to another place to get them fixed as that was all my birthday my whole family of 6 had saved up for me to get my computer fixed. Just hope You're happy Ballard to be doing this to people especially someone who for months trusted you never asked questions and was a kid in college just trying to save the money we barely had in the first place.! After this I ask him if he could pls give me my money back as the best buy computer repair people said he been scamming me for months and all I wanted was the money i gave him for the latest repair the repair that I had spent my all my birthday money on to repair my computer... Best Buy said I should take him to court for doing this to me but I didn't bc I didn't stoop lower than what he did to me Please do not go to this man for advice or anything computers he is a scammer and will hurt and possible break ur computer and take ur money! (Only way I'll ever take my experience/my review down is if I get my money back and I will be posting this on other sites as well

So I ran all my virus protection including Malware and it still acted crazy. I asked an I.T. guy for assistance and he did his thing and told me the computer was shot and to buy a new one. To me, that was devastating as this was a new computer. The last thing I wanted to do was buy a new computer. I ended up hopping on Yelp, went into the search area, and had it send my issue out to vendors on the site. In a short time, they responded back to me, started the dialogue, and told me what the issue would be. He broke it down in simple and easy steps. When I followed it, it was exactly what he said it would be, a bad screen. Based on that, I told him to order me a screen. When the screen came in, I was called by the technician. At the store, the tech greeted me, told me he would have the computer fixed the following day. Which is exactly what he did do. Overall I am impressed by the business and the willingness to diagnose an issue without me even giving them a cent. They were fast, gave me a warranty, and I will certainly use them in the future if the need ever arises.
