They get my insurance info and tell me they will call back after contacting my insurance company. Within 30 minutes, the office calls back to confirm that they spoke with my dental insurance provider, confirmed exactly what was covered, and that they would bill my insurance directly. Then, they found me a SAME-DAY appointment later in the afternoon at 3pm. When I arrived, I did not know what to think at first. I've never been to a dentists office inside an apartment building before. After I met the staff, I DID NOT GIVE THAT ANOTHER THOUGHT. My dental hygienist was CARLEMI. Not Carmel or Carmeli or Carmela. CARLEMI. Remember that name because she is the BEST. She asked detailed, thorough questions about my tooth discomfort, quickly and painlessly took the x-rays, and cleaned and polished my teeth. She was warm, intelligent, funny, caring, and professional. Could not ask for more. Doctor Robertson was beyond a consummate professional. He immediately inspires trust and confidence. It is clear the doctor has been doing this for a long time and really knows what he is doing. On top of that, Dr. Robertson gives the type of personal service that one would expect more from a very small town doctor. He encouraged me to call him on his cell phone no matter what the hour if I had an emergency. He encouraged me to call the office to schedule a quick drop-in if I began to feel any more pain. He did NOT try to sell me anything I didn't need. He encouraged me to take a practical, sensible approach to save time and money and offered a cost-saving option just in case the pain returned. In short, I LOVED this doctor and his office staff and the entire experience from beginning to end. They made me want to move to Harlem. Had an appointment this morning for 9 am. I explained I was two blocks away and the majority of the time I come exactly at 9 the doors have not even open yet. She proceeded to have an attitude and slammed the phone down on me. I arrived at the doctor's office at 9:03 am. Tanisha asked if okay and I said no that the person who just called me was rude and not even an apology or acknowledgment of the situation was addressed. The receptionist proceeded to tell me she wasn't rude and then rolled her eyes. My family and I have been with this establishment for years even before Dr. FINELY decided to open the adult side. She came up with a treatment plan. I was scared and upset when I first came in because I was told I needed a ton of work, she not only put my mind at ease but saved me thousands. Every time I see her she answers all my questions and always puts my mind at ease. She is so gentle. My one grip with her is she is a little OCD, but I guess you'd want that in a dentist, she wants her work to be as flawless as possible so I can't really complain even though these are some long appointments! I knew going in that I had some serious issues; I'd been hearing for years I needed to see a periodontist, but it takes everything for me to get to the regular dentist -- they terrify me. Now, though... it was clear, from the pain in my mouth and just to look at my teeth that I needed serious help. So I went. Everyone is friendly, informative, the vibe in the place is welcoming -- you can tell people like working there. Dr. Cote is very informative and positive. He set me up for deep cleaning to try to treat the problems and said it looked like I could keep my teeth. Yay! First deep cleaning I had a hygienist -- John, I believe -- who was very gentle. Second deep cleaning was Dr. Asuaga, who was thorough; no pain and all went well, but John was perhaps too gentle and Dr. Asuaga was determined to get every last little bit. Alas, it was not enough, which I was expecting. So now it is time for laser gum surgery to manage the problem. Pricey, but... I paid upfront because I trust they will help me keep my teeth. Dr. Cote said this will solve the problem (provided I up my dental hygiene habits and go to the dentist more often), and I believe him. No one was trying to up-sell me. Dr. Cote said if the procedure was one I could not afford, I could go every 3 months and keep up with cleanings while I saved. No pressure to sign on to a procedure my insurance won't cover. The only real vibe I get is that he'd like me to keep my teeth -- and that is what you want from your dentist. I will update when laser surgery is done, but I do not anticipate any stars being removed.
