Good ramen! My friend and I stopped by after seeing this place on a list of ramen restaurants to try. It's small inside but there's room for people to sit. Our server was super friendly and our food came out quickly. I got the Tonkotsu Gyokai Ramen and it was good. The shrimp taste hit me right away and the broth was very tasty. Next time I visit I'll try something different but overall good.
I got take out from this place and the ramen was great. They even have reheating instructions for their ramen, which makes it taste as good as if i had it in person. I also ordered buns, while the beef was good, the pork belly bun was a little "sad" since it came in "diced" form instead of one bigger piece of pork belly shown in the picture.
Wasn't sure what to expect at first, but we loved it. In the same building as a Chinese supermarket it has the hole in the wall charm on the outside while also being a decent sized place inside. There was fast service and not only great flavors, but also affordable. We got the yuzu shio ramen and the vegetable ramen. Personally really liked the degree of yuzu flavor which I had not found since my trip to Japan. The vegetable ramen was good. We also got slices of pineapple at the end with the check. Highly recommend and will definitely come back. 4.75/5
I mean let's be honest. This place is goddamn perfect every time. The staff is so nice the interior is such a homey atmosphere and the service is really fast. And the food is beyond buss it is perfect every time and you can't go wrong with anything on the menu let's be honest here. Also the music is on point every time too
A spot that is enclosed is the walls of Super 88, I thought they had been situated here forever. But doing a quick search I discovered they filled this spot in 2019 which means l've been in Boston longer than they have been open. A good thing though they are still here since lately l've been seeing a lot of old and new people close in the last couple of years. The hospitality isn't there but they are there when you need anything and who cares when the food feels like home. I had noodles the day before so I wasn't in the mood this time around and got the crispy curry chicken and my god they packed on so much curry in that thing I couldn't find many potatoes. It's usually the opposite that would happen in these situations. I loved the texture of the chicken and the thick curry that paired well with my takoyaki. The serving for the curry dish was big so l had a large amount leftover. I tried my friends' broths from their ramen as well and the spicy tan tan men isnt per se spicy but has chili oil that makes your throat feel some type of way. The isshindo ramen was light and a great option when you have a cold or need something to warm that cold soul. Between the three of us the total was only $73 mind you l also got an extra app so it's really cheap for how much you are getting. Whenever I fly in somewhere, my usual first meal is ramen or another kind of noodles. Isshindo was a lucky find; the keraka men was fantastic, with a bit of heat and a lot of flavor. Has all the right feel for a noodle shop too, and does a lot of pick up/take out business so there're seats to be had if you want to dine in!
Went to check this little hole in the wall joint with my bf last night for dinner, and tbh we were both impressed. We have tried a few ramens in Boston and as of now this one was our favorite! Food - the buns were both delicious, we both preferred the pork belly bun over the fried chicken bun though. My bf got a small thing of Japanese curry on rice, he said it was on par with other ramen joints. I got the side of sukiyaki beef on rice which was really well marinated/seasoned we liked both of these sides, and would order again. Next, we had takoyaki for the first time so nothing to compare it to, but we did not enjoy the texture (I'm sure if someone likes them they're perfectly fried and correct texture). Lastly, we both got the isshindo ramen (pretty much their tonkotsu). Noodles were bouncy, broth was authentic, and toppings were good. I'd have to say my pork chashu wasn't as melt in your mouth as I'd like but it was a bit dry/burnt up. The egg was good, perfect yolk consistency and marinated well. Service - so so fast, our waitress was super nice and bagged up our leftovers and also provided pineapple chunks on the house. Everything came out quick and prompt. I'd give this place a high rating of 4.75/5.0 for everything, service, ramen quality, and being a cool hole in the wall. The price is UNBEATABLE!!! For all of this food we ordered we left with a $59 bill. At other ramen shops you'd spend that much on just 2 bowls of ramen. So, if you're in the area, I'd try this place out. We will definitely be back.
The service here was quick on a Sunday afternoon. It's a small shop with an entrance on the way into the 88 Supermarket. The ramen was really good here. We also ordered two small dons that were great. The gyozas could've been crisper, but I liked the sauce it came with. I would definitely return to try the other ramens and appetizers.

If you decide to come, definitely get a ramen. Their broth warms your soul with a great blend of creaminess, nuttiness, and umami. The noodles were cooked well and the toppings rounded out the dish. Great value! Their takoyaki is good. It was a good way to start the meal with no complaints. Their eggs are also perfectly jammy. Would recommend trying! The sukiyaki curry dish was huge. Again, great value. But, the sukiyaki curry combo confused me a bit -- the delicious beef flavor seemed to be fighting the yummy curry flavor. They would probably be better separate from one another. If I were to come again, I'd stick to their ramens. The broth is so good.
Boston's temperature has dipped down into perfect ramen weather and Isshindo did not disappoint. I got their namesake isshindo ramen; the broth was super comforting and the noodles had a great bite. The chashu was tender but a bit on the chewier side. The woodear mushrooms provided a great contrasting texture and I wish there was a tad more to balance out the bowl. It gets quite busy on Friday nights and weekends, waited around 50 minutes on a Friday night but you can grab a buzzer and walk around the area.
You likely wont be stumbling into this place just walking around. It's almost hidden inside a grocery store food building that's fairly discrete. That's a good thing because there isn't much seating and already a wait time on the weekends. They don't need foot traffic because people who know, know. There is some good ramen here. If you're seeking some Ramen that isn't a fad restaurant tainted by Americanization of foreign cuisine this is very solid pick. No frills just good ramen. Ingredients are well curated, broth is beautiful (not overly cloudy) and fragrant. Meat is cooked very well, I've had most options and all of them are tender and flavor is balanced according to the dish. Thats true for all the dishes I've had, balanced and delicate. Prices are also notably fair. For a drink, ramen, and tip you can get out for around $25 or less which is pretty good for Boston. The only knock I have for this place is the drinks, they have some cheaper imported sodas that seem to not fit in as well for the rest of the menu. A tea selection, and better drinks, maybe even inclusion of an Umeshu would be stellar. Have returned and will return again.

This place is inside of 88 Chinese super market, near the parking lot spot. I ordered the fried chicken, and it's actually pretty delicious. The price was very reasonable. Never actually dine in because I ordered during quarantine. read more

Simply delicious ramen!!! I drove here on a whim...and I'm so glad I did. They have different varieties to try....I recommend the Isshindo ramen. Nice balance of everything: noodles, mushrooms, pork belly, and soup. I will definitely be back here!! It comes in a big bowl & I originally thought I would take some home...but it's too good & I ate it all! Hard to find, because it's WAY in the back of a food court. Address is 1 Brighton Ave., but the awning say 88 (I guess that's the name of the food court). All delicious ingredients! read more

I was very hesitant to come because I miss the previous place that was once here....HOWEVER I am so glad I came because the ramen REALLY HIT THE SPOT. I got the Karaka Men ramen. I was afraid of it being really really spicy but it was at the perfect level (last mild, but not too hot, so if you like it spicy, order the extra chili sauce!!). Super surprised by this simple bowl of ramen because each ingredient stood out to me. The pork char siu was sliced very generously. I loved the fatty parts of it, all while still having great portions of the meat itself. The soy egg was marinated really well- even after being drenched in the soup for a while, I could still taste the flavor of the soy egg. The taste usually doesn't stand out to me at all but I was pleasantly surprised and super satisfied!! AND THE NOODLES....so chewy! From the first bite I was hooked. All the ingredients together combined really well. So glad I made a stop here. I was a big fan of the predecessor Pikaichi and for that reason was a little reluctant to try this place out. Yet one hungry Saturday evening, we checked out the reviews and upon seeing no wait, popped in. The food is delicious! The char siu pork rice ($3.50 or so) is delicious and fatty and fragrant, a little on the sweeter side than its Taiwanese cousin (lu rou fan). The ramen is very good as well -- the fish and pork tonkotsu broth was fatty, fishy, and yummy and the tomato veggie ramen broth was on the acidic side but also quite. The ajitama was perfectly runny although the ingredients skew on the sweet side (the wood ear mushroom and tofu in my veggie ramen were both sweeter than I'm used to). Ramens run you $11-14 depending on toppings. Service is quick and the interior is clean. The murals on the walls are particularly fun to stare at. Overall, I recommend this ramen place -- great place to grab a bite before or after grocery shopping! read more

We stopped by Isshindo right at 5pm upon opening and we were seated immediately. The food came out very quickly starting with the takoyaki and crispy chicken. The takoyaki was standard but hit the spot - hot and delicious. The crispy chicken is a must - the side sauce nicely complements the dish, and the chicken is juicy, perfectly seasoned and does not taste saturated in oil. There's a dash of honey (?) on the chicken which was a great touch. Wish it were slightly more crispy though! As for the ramen, we ordered the karaka men with a tonkatsu broth that had a pleasant level of spice and was not too rich in fat, and the miso ramen which had a richer broth that was nicely balanced with the miso. The noodles were al dente. Each had a generous serving of char-siu that was slightly charred, providing that extra umph of flavor. The establishment was super clean and the staff were pleasant and attentive. After, we went right out the door to the Super 88 to round off the evening. This is an awesome place to grab a meal! Ramen tastes excellent, service is good, prices are reasonable, portion sizes are generous, and location is great (it's next to a supermarket that also has a food court with good food and boba, and there's FREE PARKING)! My boyfriend and I have come here a couple times for late dinner. The restaurant is usually pretty busy but we've never had to wait to be seated nor wait too long for our food to come out. The setting is pleasant with good music (the last time we went they were playing some kind of jazz fusion that we had never heard before but that was nice background music for dining). Service was prompt; we got our waters refilled regularly. The standard ramens (i.e. the ones you can get at virtually every ramen restaurant like shoyu, miso, and tonkotsu) that we've tried all tasted as expected with good quality. One time I decided to explore a bit and tried the tomato veggie ramen. It tasted exactly like how I imagined it would be, but bolder flavors and thus better! It's very tomato heavy as you'd expect, and definitely brings out the sweetness in tomatoes which I really like. I am not a huge fan of the texture of tomatoes so I tend to shy away from tomato dishes, but I love the flavor of tomato so this dish was perfect for me. Definitely recommend giving it a try! Next time I go back I won't hesitate to try another non-standard dish. read more

Hot damn. Best ramen I've ever had. We got the Isshindo signature ramen and the crispy chicken rice bowl. More than plenty of food for two to share. The flavors were ... insane. I don't know how to put it. Creamy, spicy (but not too spicy for this white girl). The texture was spot on. The egg was seasoned and cooked to perfection too. For real, best ramen. I loved how the pork was browned before being served. The flavor really came through there. The crispy chicken rice bowl had great crispy chicken that was not too dissimilar to a chicken nugget, but was crispy on the outside and tender in the middle. It was served with a sriracha mayo over sticky rice. The rice was great too! I was pleasantly surprised how it wasn't so heavy of a dish. Service was prompt and the place was tidy. We felt right at home and we'll be back the next time we're in Boston! read more

Located in the corner of Super 88, outside of the food court, next to the actual supermarket is the ever-changing ramen shop now Isshindo. Quick service and good ramen. I came here with a friend for dinner and ordered the Isshindo ramen and my friend ordered the miso ramen. It's a good-sized ramen bowl that will fill you up but won't stuff you. The isshindo ramen broth is flavorful and light and pretty drinkable compared to many other oily ramen broths. The pork is tender and juicy, while the bits of ginger that you get while eating your ramen add a bit of crunch and spice. The miso ramen has a much more garlic taste to it, but same noodles, but different toppings. Isshindo will satisfy your cravings for ramen, so check them out next time you're in the area. read more

There's a lot of ramen places in Boston right now, but Isshindo Ramen is probably the one that I'm most interested in returning to right now. Part of that is because of its novelty; the restaurant has not been open too long and I've gotten a bit too sick of the other places. But the other reason is that their ramen is just plain good. It's not a mind blowing ramen, but it is solid all around with no major flaws. The karaka men I got (a spicy tonkotsu ramen) had a flavorful broth that was not too heavy for my tastes (unlike places like Yume or Totto), and the noodles were cooked perfectly. The ajitama egg was nice and yolk-y (though I do wish they would give customers the full egg). The chashu was certainly one of the more memorable aspects of the ramen as it had quite a smoky flavor (it can be a bit overpowering but I prefer it to bland, boiled meat). Isshindo Ramen has a nice selection of ramen, and I can't wait to go back and try some more of them. read more

Ganko Ittetsu's Tan Tan ramen is my personal favorite. However, Isshindo's Tan Tan is a close second. In fact Isshindo wins with the larger serving size, including a full egg (two halves). Take note, Ganko Ittestu! That being said, it was a packed house and everyone's soup looked great. People were smiling and slurping away, luxuriating in their ramen umami on this raw and rainy February day. I struck up a conversation with the lovely couple next to me who ordered the spicy miso ramen and the spicy tonkatsu ramen. They were regulars who ate there once a week who couldn't stop raving. You know the ramen was great when you are sad to finish it. Isshindo is a worthy addition to Boston's ramen scene. read more

My boyfriend and I have walked by this restaurant multiple times whenever we've gone to Super 88 to grocery shop but never went in. One day we decided to try and of course it was one of the hottest days this summer. It was 95 degrees outside and I don't think there was AC because I was literally just sweating as I ate. My boyfriend is a huge fan of ramen so that's what he ordered and told me it was great. He sat there through the heat and ate the entire bowl even the soup. I'm not a ramen girl so I went for the beef rice bowl. Everything was seasoned perfectly, if only it wasn't so hot I could have sat there longer to eat slower. I wish there wasn't as much rice though because I felt wasteful leaving so much rice leftover. Overall, food and service were great! Would definitely come back on a cooler day! read more

Non pretentious hole in a wall ramen place inside 88 Supermarket! I ordered the Spicy Miso Ramen, my husband got the Spicy Tan Tan Men and some apps. The tonkotsu broth has great depth and just the right amount of seasoning, ramen has great texture. I always compare Boston ramen to NYC and Japan but normally they are about 3/5. The ramen here is truly tasty! I guess I don't have to trek to Ippudo in NYC and go here instead. :) read more

Ordered the Isshindo ramen from Uber Eats, the broth is just as luscious as in-person. The soup and ramen noodles / toppings are separated, and the bowl is sturdy and holds all the food easily (huge plus for takeout/delivery!). Highly recommend if you're craving a hearty meal. read more
Been waiting to try this place since it first opened, finally had an opportunity to this time around. We were greeted by a pleasant waitress. Ordered the spicy miso ramen with the egg as extra topping for 2 dollars . Came out looking good and appealing . First you have to taste the broth to see how perfection are made from the kitchen. Broth I thought was pretty flavorful and rich. It's one of the better ramen I had since the Japan trip. Staffs are courteous and attentive to your needs. Isshindo Ramen is located inside the Super 88. This is actually really wonderful since parking in the area can be tough but they have their own designated lot. They are currently only offering takeout however the Super 88 has plenty of tables set up so you can order your ramen to go and then eat it in the food court area. Everything is socially distanced however make sure to bring sanitizing wipes as it doesn't seem to be cleaned very often. Ok on to the good stuff. Their ramen is definitely on point without a doubt. The noodles are juicy and just the right amount of chewy. The broth is rich and luxurious and has a thickness to it. I ordered the Karaka Ramen which was slightly spicy. Overall the ingredients meshed well together and the tea egg was just the right amount of soft. Definitely a good ramen option in the area and their prices are competitive!! read more

Excellent ramen at a reasonable price. I work near by and get ramen for lunch every once and a while. The pork is high quality, the egg is cooked perfectly, noodles are delicious . Spicy miso ramen is my go to, spicy and delicious. Top notch ramen in the city. Must try I'll also recommend the crispy chicken appetizer. Enjoy! read more

Fantastic ramen spot near BU. A little tricky to find at first- but keeping poking around for it because it's well-worth it!!! Isshindo and Santouka are my two favorite ramen places in the Boston area and I find them to have pretty similar flavor profiles (I get the spicy ramens at both). I love that they give you a lot of pork though- huge bonus!! I also adore the corn paired with the spicy broth. Looking forward to my next trip back! read more

I came here with a few friends before doing some groceries at super88 and I was pretty satisfied. I don't eat ramen a ton, so I'm not that picky about it, but I really liked it. I thought the broth was SUPER rich and flavorful which I loved. My friend who has higher standards for ramen said that she thought the noodles were a bit soggy, though I honestly didn't notice. The service was really good and they were super attentive, coming around to fill our water really frequently. Overall, I think it's definitely a pretty solid restaurant and would recommend others to try it out!! read more

This ramen joint is pretty good and reasonably priced! The noodles were the perfect consistency for me - there's a nice bite to them. I usually like my noodles on the harder side. The I ordered the Karaka Men which came with 4 super thinly sliced pieces of pork. The broth is rich, and a bit tangy in this one. Overall I really enjoyed my meal! read more

I'm a little hesitant to post because I'll be sad if people swamp this place too, but damn. This place slaps. The broth is ON POINT. It's silky, it's smooth, it's got just the right amount of sweetness. And it's got perfectly emulsified pork fatty globules to guide those chewy, cooked-just-right wavy noodles down your gaping gullet. Only suggestion would be not to get the super spicy (#7 I think?) bowl because it masks the delicate perfection of the broth. If you want to get hot and bothered by a bowl of ramen without any fuss, this is the place. read more

I heard from my friends that it is almost the best Japanese reman restaurant in Allston and actually it is! The soup is super thick and definitely fresh made from bones. The noodles are good, eggs are 'runny' and I want to recommend pork char-siu!! Which is much better than chicken because the marbled pork can bring balanced flavor and it's perfect match with reman! In addition, One suggestion for the restaurant: I think of we can choose how hard/soft the noodle is and how thick the soup is, it will be much better and fit for more customers. Because for me, the soup is too thick that I feel a little hard to digest back home. And the thick soup is also too much calories for me for dinner. read more

Isshindo is a small place hidden near the super88 hallway, adding to the ramen scene in Boston! Isshindos speciality is their ton katsu broth, but personally I felt like it wasn't for me. It was more on the thicker, saltier side and their noodles were a little hard for my taste. Overall flavor was reaaaally good, but I wish I could've made some adjustments to the ramen I got. I usually prefer softer noodles and a lighter broth, but maybe it's my fault that I didn't ask. I got the spicy miso ramen which definitely had a unique flavor, and my friends got the karakamen which was also really good! I miss pikaichis prices so maybe I'm just bitter, but I did think their prices are a little bit step, but overall good service and good ramen! read more
