Extra noodles kept in their base broth
    Dickson L.

Probably best Lanzhou style cuisine / noodles in the area. It's a cute little spot tucked behind the Trader Joe's in Brookline and if you know that area parking is somewhat manageable as there are various parking lots and usually a good amount of street parking too. We got their signature noodle soup at regular width and regular spicy with cilantro and leek (and extra noodles heheh), also got their spicy dry style noodle at their maximum spicy level. The noodle soup is peak. You can really taste that hand pulled quality that shines in its chewiness and freshness. I also appreciate how it's one long noodle true to their cultural roots. Spicy level is on point even though it looked really red. IMO what really brings it together is the broth. It honestly reminds me of a pho-like broth where it's been cooked and simmer for a really long time. We went during a cold winter afternoon so this really hit the spot. Delicious noodles, it's a real treat to be able to find an authentic place like this as there are several in the city area but this takes the crown for now. The dry noodles were also delicious. Same wonderful hand pulled noodle but in a different variation. This one hits much closer to Uyghur style lahgman noodles. Lots of cumin, it was pretty spicy (we asked for it) with some onion, bell pepper, and beef all stir fried together. tldr; go here for your hand pulled noodle fix. The soup noodles is hands down one of the best in the area

Lan Feast is definitely worth a try to experience really good quality hand-pulled noodles, especially when it's cold out! The spicy warming broth really melts away winter shivers. Food: The noodles are the star! They had a cook bite to them and really grabbed onto the spices in each bowl. I would definitely recommend the extra wide noodles! Also the spice levels felt accurate, but I recommend getting it at least medium as you start to miss out on some flavor milder. Service: Things were calmer around 5pm when we arrived so staff were able to be extra attentive but once dinner rush came it took a little to get the attention of staff for the check. Atmosphere: The interior is nice and clean. It's well lit but the wood furniture keeps it cozy.

This place is amazing! Probably one of the best Chinese restaurants I have been to in the Boston area. We loved everything we ordered including the Lanzhou hand pulled beef noodles (with wide noodles and mildly spicy), the thick chili oil noodles, the lamb skewers, and the stir fried tofu dish (with an extra bowl of white rice). My only recommendation for improvement is that the beef in the beef noodles was a little bit chewy but other than that, all of the food was spectacular! Even the pot of black tea we ordered was amazing and made with super high quality and aromatic black tea!

Cute little restaurant with amazing authentic dishes. The hand pulled noodles are absolutely fantastic! One of the best dishes I've ever had. Do not miss this place. Be sure to get it thick and spicy.

Stopped in for lunch and was not disappointed. Service was quick; we came at the right time. Plenty of space, tables and clean restroom facilities. Our server seated us and gave us the menus and brought out water. They were really good about refilling the water for us too! We ordered the Lan Zhou beef noodles in spicy and extra spicy. Noodles had nice texture, the mixture of beef brisket, daikon, cilantro, chili oil. The spice level seems like it was just controlled by adding more or less chili oil so it didn't seem different to us. Overall i would say it's not that spicy so give it a go and don't be scared haha. The meat was tender, i would bring the proteins to the surface so they don't overcook too fast. The popcorn spicy chicken bites were very tasty, i wish the red peppers were more crispy to be able to eat like chips almost, but the flavor was very addicting and the chicken was thigh meat so it was juicy! The breading was fried perfectly, seasoned well, had a great chili spice / salty flavor. Give me another order please! Would come back again for more on a rainy day or dinner with the family.

Modern eatery in Coolidge Corner specializing in hand-pulled noodles in 5 different shapes, plus grilled skewers and spicy Sichuan fare. Long bar with stools on the side, plus a U-shaped bar for eating-- with individual spaces "walled off" for semi-privacy. Helpful servers. Chili Oil Hand-Pulled Noodles: Splashed with chili oil and served with perfectly cooked bok choi. Medium thickness (halfway between Home Taste on the thin end of the spectrum and Gene's on the thick end) and very long (with cutting necessary to avoid a mess). No carrots and sprouts a la Gene's (no big loss) and no barrage of garlic (ditto). Great fresh and chewy texture. Simplicity at its finest, with the hot oil and vegetable all you really need. My wife wanted them mild, so I added extra chile oil to mine from the handy condiment bowl on the table. Elite. Boiled Spicy Fish: A huge bowl with black fish filet (skin on, but edible) under a barrage of red chili peppers and herbal greenery. Further underneath, a spicy, oily broth, with soybean sprouts, thin wiggly rice noodles, cabbage, numbing Sichuan peppercorns, and probably a few more goodies. Very nicely done. Fish quality was elite. Fish quantity, a little below average. Flavor, near-elite. Szechuan Fried Chicken Bites: This Sichuan joint staple that goes by several names distinguished itself from similar ones with jumbo pieces (as big as fried clams), great crispness, and tender, juicy interiors. I chose the highest spice setting and enjoyed complexity as well as intensity. Numbing Sichuan peppercorns, red Sichuan chili peppers, chili powder, green peppers, scallions, and I think even garlic were in the mix. Elite. Lan Feast Stir-Fried Noodles with Beef: Went with the second highest spice option and thick noodles. Another tingly dish, thanks to the spices clinging to the firm and flavorful noodles. Onions and peppers, cooked but still slightly crisp, brought some faint sweetness in a natural and understated way. Last but not least, the beef chunks were large and tender. Spice and texture prevailed. This rivaled Jahunger's noodles, which I respect highly. Elite. Lanzhou Hand-Pulled Beef Noodles: Ordered with extra wide noodles and level 3 (out of 4) spiciness, this dish presented thin-sliced beef in a peppery, spicy, red-oil-tinted broth. Delicious. Noodles not as chewy as hoped, but still very good. Daikon and cilantro rounded out the texture and flavor. Hard to "score" since I usually go broth free, but really good stuff. Sizzling Cumin Lamb: A definite head turner with the crackling, smoking arrival. Tender, pepper-powdered lamb in a treatment similar to how they do skewers, only spicier and with some saucing too. Plenty of herbs and vegetables, led by red onion that was still somewhat crisp and raw. The cumin was in there, but this was predominantly pepper and very pleasurable. I prefer less busy versions, but this was impressive. Near-elite. Pepper Beef Topped Noodles: Chunks of very tender beef, longhorn (I think) peppers of medium spiciness, and hand-pulled noodles. A very bright pepperiness, and moist enough, but no sauce per se. I prefer the deeper, more intense spiciness of the Lan Feast Stir-Fried Noodles with Beef (previous review here), but this was a very good dish. Chicken Wings: Two skewers with two flats each. Heavily seasoned with chili powder (similar to the increasingly popular lamb skewers), crisp of skin, and moist (not fully juicy) inside. Enjoyable for sure, but nothing special. Scallion Pancake: Very thin, bready, and more floppy than crisp (don't tell Portnoy), but intentionally a different style from what you've been having for the last 30 years. Topped with crisp fried shallots, not at all greasy, and a delicious flavor with hints of grilling, like Indian naan. Black vinegar sauce and chili oil were already on the table to use. I wouldn't want every scallion pancake to be like this, but very, very enjoyable. Spicy Cabbage: Cooked to combine wilting and crispness. It had the promised spiciness, plus a little bit of sour and a lot of fermented black beans. Intriguing flavor. Well above average to near-elite. String Beans with Garlic: Different from most counterparts elsewhere. A thin, clingy, clear/white sauce delivered garlic flavor and welcome saltiness. Larger half-cloves of garlic lurked as well. Vegetables cooked to hit the sweet spot that has bend with a little crunch. Delightful. Ma Po Tofu: My wife wanted this mild and without the optional meat, so I didn't get the full effect, but a solid rendition, with very tender tofu. Even as constituted, well above average. Lamb Skewers: Trio of skewers, typical presentation, tasty/spicy red powder seasoning, but too many of the pieces were dry. Below average. Stir-fried String Beans: So much better than the garlic version. This one has fermented mustard greens, some very faint pepper heat, some saltiness, and just enough char and oil. Dark green, crisp, and tender. Near-elite to elite.

Came here for dinner on a weekend with a reservation and were seated quite quickly. The spot was super busy when we went so if you have the ability to plan ahead, I'd book a table! The place felt modern and clean with super packed tables so not a lot of space in the booth we got, but that didn't deter from the experience too much. Menu had a good variety of dishes and we got a few to share. Most things we got skewed on the spicier side and it was all delicious. Food came out in a reasonable amount of time and everything was good - my favorite was the fish and the noodles were good as well. Overall, I had a great time and would be happy to come back if in the area again. Thanks, Lan Feast!

We decided to try Lan Feast in Brookline the other day and it was not bad! I believe they're pretty new-ish, opened some time this year? Lan Feast offers hand pulled noodles from the Northwest region of China, Lanzhou, along with other non-noodle dishes like cumin lamb, golden fish fillet, skewers, and dessert. We went for lunch and we decided to get the spicy chicken bites appetizer & opted for the weekday lunch special (11:30-3pm):Lanzhou hand pulled beef noodles, one extra hot & the other regular spicy. It comes with a tea egg & a "side dish"--pickled daikon/white radish + cabbage (w/ vinegar). For noodles, you can choose from 5 different noodle thickness types and the spice level (no spicy, mild, regular, & extra hot). Service is kind of slow. Came on a not busy day and time & still slow. Switch of servers luckily and had much better experience. The normal price for the Lanzhou hand pulled noodles is $16 so for an extra egg + side dish of pickled veggies is a dollar. Meh, I'd say not worth it to pay the extra dollar. The egg was over done & egg was chalky; ended up just mixing the egg yolk into the broth and just eating the egg white. I did enjoy the noodles though! They had a nice chew & soup warmed my soul! Simple but flavorful. I also liked that it was not overly oil because sometimes at other places, the oil is overpowering & makes for an undrinkable soup. NOTE: the only difference in the spice levels is that they just add more chili oil to increase spiciness but honestly, it's not that spicy at all. Did not taste much of a difference between the regular spicy & the spicy hot (spiciest option). The spicy chicken bites were the star of the show, for us! Very similar to popcorn chicken, BUT BETTER. OOOUUU perfectly seasoned & super juicy! They were addicting to eat... we couldn't stop eating them, highly recommend trying this dish specifically !! I would definitely come back to get the spicy chicken bites ;) Parking: meter street parking

So glad I wandered into this place, looks like newly opened. Service and Ambiance of this place is great! Musics playing but not too loud, I like the layout of the bar in the middle and tables at the side. They provide these minty saltfish fruity mints with the bill which is a nice, unique touch. Food: Excellent balance in the beef broth, not too overpowering, with some cilantro and leeks I added. The noodles are fresh pulled, I got the thin noodles which was great. There's chili oil at the table this want more spice. I also got wood ear and cucumber salad, which also tasted great! Highly recommend this place.

Super tasty new addition to Coolidge Corner. The hand pulled chili noodles are so good and flavorful. My only gripe is that there is only 2 or 3 tiny bunches of bok choy. Their specialty lamb is perfect with delicate and delicious flavors. The hand made dumplings were delicious, but the crowd favorite was really the crispy fried oyster mushrooms. The desserts of mochi cake and osmanrhus jelly/ice cream were delicious! On a second visit the salt and pepper chicken with Chinese tea was a umami bomb, and the steamed and fried buns with condensed milk were amazing. We also tried the Mapo tofu (this came out before the beer after 5 min of ordering so I think it's quite popular/super rapid service), string beans. Definitely make a reservation as it's been full every week day and weekend night we've been. It doesn't get too loud and is casual enough for family gatherings.

Went here to try the Lanzhou hand pulled noodles after seeing it on instagram. There was still a crowd at 1:30pm on a Sunday, but we (a party of four) got seated right away. I got their classic hand-pulled beef noodles with extra wide noodles and medium spicy. I like how the noodles are made fresh. My noodles were really soft and have good consistency. They might be a little too wide for my liking - they filled me up fast. I will opt for the wide noodles next time. There were so much noodles in the big bowl and also decent amount of meat which I can't complain. The broth is flavorful and the spicy is a good kick. You can also add extra spice if you want. We also got the pan fried dumplings (not picture) and I really enjoyed the hand made fresh wrapper! Our server was really attentive as well. I would definitely come back to try their other dishes. -7.8/10

Ok wow I went in expecting it to be a regular restaurant, and came out feeling like that was one of the best Chinese food places I've had in America!!!! Service is fast - they served our dishes very quickly, and our server was friendly. The decor is cute, Chinese inspired with the cutest traditional plates! First off - they're known for their Lanzhou Hand Pulled Noodles, we got the wide version with medium spice. It wasn't that spicy more like a mild, the broth was nice but on the lighter side, and they gave a smaller portion of beef and radishes. Good! What came next was seriously so impressive. The tangy and spicy stir fried potatoes had a very interesting texture - a bit crunchy but a bit soft. Sooo fascinating and soo addicting! The chilis added a nice kick of spice, and the tanginess really pulled through. The sautéed cauliflower with garlic chives was acrually like crack. The hot oil infused with garlic chives and a tiny bit of fermented black soy beans - ugh I literally could've drank the dish. Finally, the marinated beef brisket with potato ball - a GENEROUS portion of beef with soft potato balls that melted in your mouth. Definitely order rice to drink up the sauce. I don't love repeating restaurants so I'm saying this with all my heart - I WOULD come back again to try everything else!!!

We went back again and tried more things, everything is amazingly tasty! Especially the boiled lamb, so juicy, tender, and flavorful. The flavor is not from over spice, it's from the high quality lamb and very simple but skillful cooking. Cumin lamb, absolutely delicious, with rice just perfect. Stew lamb, so good, and the sauce is fantastic on rice or noodles. Tomato and egg noodles, the best of best. Of course, the staple beef soup with hand pulled noodles, always delicious. The lady there is always so sweet and friendly. We got a table next the window, lovely ambiance. Definitely go back again and again!

The staff was incredibly friendly, and I think I only waited 5 minutes from when I ordered to when the food was ready to take away, so that's pretty amazing! I ordered: Lunch special ($11.45) - The price alone here is incredible. You get a good variety of food and a good amount as well for what feels like pre-pandemic prices. I've seen a lot of lunch specials being raised to more than $15 or so recently, so the fact that this one is only $11.45 is a great deal. It also came in a tupperware with a big section and a small section, and I would have expected the rice to go in the big section and the main to go in the smaller one, but they did the opposite - so you get a really large and nice portion of your main course! The actual food I got was: Crab rangoons - These were nicely fried and the filling had noticeable pieces of imitation crab in it. I also liked the savory flavor, as some places make their filling sweeter, but this was more on the savory and salty side. Very nice crab rangoon. Pork fried rice - This was the iffy one. The flavor was on point, but the rice itself was hard and felt undercooked. It wasn't inedible, but it was definitely noticeable, though covering it in the lobster sauce made up for it. If I had ordered the fried rice alone without a sauce, I would have been pretty disappointed. Shrimp with lobster sauce - This came with 4 shrimps which is pretty standard, but it was an above average lobster sauce in my opinion. It was nice and gooey, salty, and savory, and the shrimp was very meaty. This was definitely the star of the lunch, and I had some leftover to eat with white rice for my next meal! All in all, I'd definitely come back - the price along is a great deal, and I'd like to see if the fried rice would be better on a second time around. The appetizer and main were great tasting, and the service was incredibly fast and friendly. 4/5 stars - I'd absolutely have this again!

Each of the times I remembered were tasty. The ambiance when you arrive is dramatic Chinese music in the background which makes it somewhat difficult to converse with your group. Most recently we arrived with a group of 8 for our 7:30 pm reservation without any issues. All the other tables were full but we noticed the restaurant cleared out after an hour of us being there past the peak hours. They gave us 2 containers of the standalone spicy powder so people could add on as they wanted and the less spice tolerant in our group weren't saddled with the consequences. I tried the following dishes: Lamb & Beef Kebabs - 3 sticks per order I preferred the beef texture and taste over the lamb. BBQ Lamb Ribs - they said this was the only dish that came default spicy but I didn't think it was that spicy. the smoking in the raised wooden container gave it additional flavor. I preferred lamb ribs over the kebabs. Torched Beef - one of the favorites for our table the sauce with it was also super tasty. Big Squid - challenging to cut but they give a lot of pieces and generous portion with a special sauce. Grandma's juicy pork buns - on the small side, topped with black sesame and sauce you can add on the side. it was juicy as advertised. Cucumber salad - refreshing and included peanuts for texture and flavor. Fried tofu - not too memorable but the fried texture was tasty. Bok choy - I enjoyed the sauce spread across this veggie dish. Shiitake & King Oyster Mushroom - these are 2 separate orders but I can't remember which was the skewer and which was on a regular plate. Both were overall tasty. Cauliflower - Another solid veggie option but nothing too memorable if you want to focus mainly on protein. BBQ Bread slice - one of the inauthentic cuisines and it's like French toast Kaoijiu dragon yogurt- I was expecting more dragon fruit flavor so that was a bit disappointing but it still tasted good overall. I am not sure it's worth the $10 dessert price. Overall solid food options and we didn't have any leftovers so it ended up being ~$40-60 per person depending if people also ordered drink/dessert. From the very attentive and supportive staff to the intricate details that they have throughout the restaurant , it is truly transformative experience. As for the food, if you're in the mood of something spicy, especially that Sichuan type of heat, then the beef soup is the one for you! I personally would recommend the green pepper pork because it was absolutely delicious! I could not stop eating it and it was just perfect in every which way! Looking forward to coming here again to try many other delicious foods and will probably bring a couple of more friends because their group seating is absolutely stunning!

5 for food 2 for service…read more We love the NYC version of this restaurant, and were excited to visit the Boston spot for mouth numbing dishes. Starting with an iPad menu, our ordering experience with our waiter was subpar. We ended up with extra things ordered that weren't part of our initial order. In good news the food was absolutely delicious. Everything was fire and the waiter poured 5 glasses of water for 3 of us. So we could cool down without needing to flag him down. With the only non-Asian waiter in the restaurant, he struggled with basic elements of service. Inattentive. Requests went unmet (lemons for water). We sat for more than 15 mins after asking to box up leftovers and to close our check. This was all a little embarrassing, as we brought my boyfriend's father. After singing praises of the NYC spot, this was a disappointment.

The seating is mostly tables and there were also a few people at the bar who seemed to be waiting for tables. We got the following: peruvian sunkiss, tahini colada, bossa nova, pal viper, bocadillo sour. The peruvian sunkiss was so refreshing. The Tahini colada was non-alcoholic and my friend really enjoyed it. Didn't get to taste the other drinks but everyone at our table enjoyed them! We unfortunately were only there for drinks but I would love to try their food next time because all the dishes looked and smelled so good.

Our server was attentive and replenished our water for the table as soon as they were empty without our even asking. Food 5/5: every dish we ordered represented Sichuan flavors well, especially the spiciness of it! Our favorites were the eggplant with spicy garlic sauce, with the chengdu dry hot chicken and the string beans. The braised beef with Napa cabbage and mapo tofu were also delicious. Ambience 3/5: super loud. It wasn't even the music, it was that people's conversations were bouncing off the walls in a small space such that it was not possible to hear the other people in my group except who I was sitting next to. I saw several dates there and hopefully they could hear each other ok. Drinks: 2/5 overpriced and disappointing. My Negroni was ok but my husband's Manhattan tasted watery like it had been shaken instead of stirred and the melon highball tastes medicine-y. Overall a good experience because we were hungry and the food was amazing. We made up for not hearing each other well by taking an evening stroll and talking as we walked.

First time here and it was great! We did the AYCE all-you-can-eat on a Monday (they only do it…read moreMonday and Tuesdays) - got there around 7:30p and even though it was very full, we got seated quickly with a table for 3. It's $50 for the regular AYCE or $80 for the Premium AYCE. We opted for the former, and it was plenty great. We have done lots of AYCE sushi and I will say this is the BEST of them - I think it's because it's the same grade sushi as they would normally do Ala carte on other nights. The $50 menu had plenty of sashimi and regular nigiri (sushi with rice) options and some Thai too. We had mostly the sashimi Salmon, Tuna, Yellowtail, Octopus, a few rolls, some edamame, gyoza, shumai. My favorites were the salmon, as the cuts were large, thick and amazing silky, and the gyoza, as it was perfectly crispy. The Pad Thai was bit way too sweet for my taste - a skip for me next time. The decor is very nice - reminded me of a dive Tokyo bar. Service was quick and very attentive. We will be back!

Have been hearing about their Mon & Tue AYCE, so went on to try it a month or so ago. With what…read moreseems to be a recent price increase, now $50++ allows access to a good variety of sushi/sashimi, on top of apps, ramen, poke bowls, and cooked rice/noodle dishes. Whereas $80++ offers diners a set of amount of uni, plus unlimited amount of everything else, wagyu included. Sounds like a good deal, especially when one can eat a lot. Even as we are no longer Team Eat Till You Burst, we went for the premium, mainly for the nicer cuts such as toro and wagyu, and because uni!! Jumping in shortly after 5pm, we were promptly seated, marked a bunch of stuff on paper, and soon after submission, we got food brought to our table. It was a decent meal overall, so why 3 stars? Let's recap. Menu variety is fantastic, though of course we didn't get "one of everything", coz that's simply impossible. While the premium did cover a lot of grounds, it would have been nice if they also included anago (sea eel) which is currently only available on the a la cart menu, and maybe even offer couple lesser-known items such as monk fish liver app, sea grapes, off-the-beaten-path fish cuts, what have you. Would be happy even if we only get an allotment of those like we do with the uni. Now, service - great overall. Servers circulated around and were alert of customers' needs. Approached at appropriate times to take our order sheets, refill water, provide new order sheets, and ask if we wanted more food. So kudos on that. Their denotation of serving "regular portion" of cooked food had us hesitant in ordering, since we didn't want to be wasteful (or use our limited stomach space for dishes we can easily get elsewhere). But from other tables' orders as well as the one noodle dish that we ended up getting, it seems that the portion size was what I would like to see at AYCE places -- about 50-60% of regular Asian dish size, where 3-4 people can each have a couple bites "just to try". However, to think if that is what they call "regular portion", then it is definitely "Brookline pricing" on a la carte, which I would not recommend one to do such things on these items. Food is fantastic in general; we got a variety of stuff, and everything was really of top quality and taste. The meal would have been a "highly recommended" if they didn't serve the uni that we got. Out of the 12 pcs of uni sushi, all of them were... while not "foul" to a point where one cannot safely consume, they were definitely more sub-par than "ok but not great". Colors aside (which I understand there can be a range depending on origins and such), the uni was a "splat" of yellow stuff on rice, without distinct shape of the flesh. On top of the fishy smell (I'm talking about slightly ammonia-ish), the presentation and taste-texture upon them hitting our tongues... really left the ENTIRE room to be desired. In retrospect, we should have sent them back even if they weren't going to replace them. But instead, we stupidly forced ourselves to shove them all down in cowardly silence, then ordered another round of wagyu just to make us feel a little better about it. Yes, we weren't smart as customers. But if the restaurant is going to charge $100++ per person (after tax and tip), someone from the kitchen should have known better than pushing this thing out for customers to deal with. In their defense, yes, the uni itself was still "edible" in a sense that it didn't make us sick, but I'd maintain that better judgment should have been made. Once the shell was cracked open and you see this pale-gray yellow mush, it should have been decided that it is better repurposed, than be served straight to your customers as your star/featured product. As seen in other diners' experiences, it could just have been a one-off mishap, so I'm not knocking them entirely. But I do hope the restaurant would improve on their QC accordingly. It was such a disappointing low point in an otherwise wonderful meal.
