Just a FYI: They already charge a 16% service charge into your total on your check. You cannot change this. The food is really great. Love the hummus. Their baba ganoush is creamier than ones outside in chain places and less Smokey flavor. Their bread is really good and goes well with all their dips. The meat portions are generous and enough. authentic but the waiters/waitresses could be a bit better. The owner himself is very kind and friendly. Understand that the pandemic has made things difficult for businesses but the service charge already built-in was not the greatest thing to see on the check. read more

First they changed the name to Zyron maybe the owner too but the website is still Istanbul. The price is different on the website and when we mentioned this to them they said yes that was the old price from the other restaurant We did pick up so can't say anything about Ambiance. The food was meh!!! The kofta was pretty hard and dry same as shuarma the rice wasn't fresh cooked. The bread was yummy and Adana kabob was ok. The green salad that's come with food was pre packed and the dressing was soaked the green leaves completely made it big pill of mushy green. I hope that was an error and they fix everything I hate to not having nice Turkish restaurant close by can't go all the way to Paterson to get decent food all the time. read more

Man, I went in here thinking we need to help this local business and make other locals aware. We ordered a few starters baba ghanoush, labneh, and a shepherds salad. We then ordered dinner. Starters were good, and good portions. Dinners were ok. For most of the time, we were the only patrons in the place. (3 of us). Then a couple came in, and someone for take out. The woman who took our order was very nice, but the service was not attentive at all. When the check came, after I asked for it... I was somewhat surprised by the total so did a double take. There was an almost $19 service charge added to my bill. (18%). I asked her what this was and her response was "they all do it". I explained to her that "They" do not all do it, at least not around here and she explained that all (4) of their locations do. I would like to suggest to the business that perhaps the fact that you have taken the liberty to add this service charge is why you do not have customers. We like to tip, and we like to determine the tip! I would have also loved to write a glowing review to help this establishment but instead, I want to do a public service and let any reader know that you will be charged an 18% service fee, and then given a hand held machine to sign and choose what percentage of tip you would like to add. I had been going to this restaurant's North Brunswick location for years when I lived there. Thrilled that they opened up this new location in Warren. I ordered takeout consisting of a combo grill platter, a chicken Adana platter, hummus and shepherds salad. Here's the thing...maybe it's been this crazy upside down year, maybe it's the fact that it's takeout, but I've found food at restaurants across the board to have suffered. Yes, the tavuk sis and lamb kebabs were just a tad on the drier side than I would've liked, but overall the meal was still very solid. And given these challenging times for restaurants, it's something I'm more than willing to overlook. Not to mention the place just opened and I'm sure they're fine tuning the little details. I'll certainly order again. In my opinion, this is still the best of this genre of food in town. Oh and the baklava was excellent. read more

So happy to find another great Turkish restaurant in our area. We stopped by Wednesday this week to try the place out. Good Mediterranean food in this area has really been hit or miss. I'm glad to report this was a hit and you'll enjoy IFL. We were welcomed and showed to our table. Our waiter greeted us with menus before bringing over a bottle of water and some fresh flat bread for the table. To start, we got the Shepherd's Salad and the Lamajoun. Both were excellent. The Lamajoun was served with lettuce and onions on the side. Everything tasted so fresh with just the right amount of herbs (for the salad) and spices (for the Lamajoun). For dinner, my wife got the Yogurtlu Chicken Adana. The chicken was marinated and cooked perfectly. It was served just as expected...over buttered pita covered in yogurt. My step-daughter had the Veggie Guvec which was cooked perfectly in a beautifully seasoned brown sauce. I had the vegetarian version of Manti which contained potato puree. It was served in a yogurt sauce with a nicely seasoned oil drizzled over. We finished up the meal with some Turkish coffee and baklava (both walnut and pistachio). Nice, flaky crust with a sweet, nutty filling. Everything was cooked perfectly and so tasty. There are a number of great vegetarian dishes on the menu too. The staff are so friendly and there to answer any questions you might have. I highly recommend looking this place up and stopping by. read more

I chose Istanbul Foodlovers as a venue for my birthday party primarily because they had a varied selection of vegan options and a great space for a large group. The owner we worked with, Kadir, was efficient and professional in handling our party menu and food restrictions; the staff was courteous and very well-organized in bringing out our food in a timely manner and followed all safety protocols. They also set up our wine and beer by their bar area - making drink service seamless and easy. Allowing us to access their blue tooth, we were able to play our own music - creating the perfect ambiance in making my party a success. We had meat eaters as well as vegetarian and vegans in our party and they were able to accommodate us all. We ordered the Shepherd's Salad, Lentil soup - delish!!! Hummus, Baba Ghanoush, Spiced Eggplant, and Falafel for apps (the vegan option since I didn't try any of the meats) - all were flavorful and fresh! For main we had Stuffed Cabbage, Stuffed Pepper and Imam Bayildi - all were hearty, tasty and filling!! Baklava for dessert was definitely a hit and crowd pleaser and ended our night perfectly. Went there few times in support of this new Turkish restaurant. There service is substandard. Salads were tasteless. Turkish restaurants are known for their grilled meat, not here. It was dry and tough. What made me upset is that with poor service and bad food, the bill comes with 18% tip added already even if you are one person dining. Inappropriate. I am hoping they fix their service, food and stop adding tip as that is up the discretion of the guest. read more

Got a strange feeling when I walked into an empty restaurant at lunch time. Should have been a clue. I wanted soup which they were out of. The woman suggested I have chicken kebabs- I reluctantly did. They have a signed displayed offering 9.99 lunch special. I waited 15 mins or so and the woman hands me lunch while holding her pack of cigarettes. Yuk! Oh and she charged for a dinner. Sneaky! Just wanted to get out of there so didn't question her. My wife and I took a best friend to try a Turkish dinner here last evening, and wow were we happy! Our host greeted us sincerely and ushered us to a perfect table. The menu is very extensive and he was happy to help with our choices. The dishes came out promptly and were uniformly delicious; the small portion left once we were stuffed just provided me with a terrific leftovers lunch! It's a BYO and the prices are very reasonable. We will no doubt find an opportunity to go back soon; it's a perfect place to go with our son, daughter-in-law, and their two youngsters, because the kids can quickly get outside to run around if they get tired of listening to adults. read more

We stopped in for lunch on a Saturday and we're the only ones in there. The only employee we saw was the front counter girl who also took our orders. She was nice but obviously isn't trained as a waitress. We had to ask for everything we needed and finally went up to the counter to get containers for our leftovers and to pay. The olives and bread they gave us to start were good. We both got sandwiches, the gyro and a lamb adana which came with a large pile of fries. Both sandwiches were on the dry side - even with the lettuce and tomato. And I really would have liked something other than fries. There was also a 16 percent charge added to each item on the bill, including baklava which we ordered to go, which we didn't know about until we went to pay. To make matters worse, the charge machine wasn't working. The girl said she had told her manager but he hadn't fixed it. We had cash but she had no money in the register to make change and wound up giving us change out of her wallet. read more

Wowza! I have been to many Turkish restaurant and this one beats them all! We ate the shepherds salad and the hot appetizer platter. Their zucchini pancakes are delightful. I got the liver as my main course while my husband and daughter split the lamb chop platter. We will be back!!! read more

This Turkish restaurant was very good, but I DO have a few criticisms. I am probably nitpicking, but some things bothered me. There was only bottled water on the table. We had to ask for tap water. I will not pay $4 for a bottle of water. The tap water was not cold. I have noticed that many Mediterranean restaurants do not seem to feel that ice in water is necessary. Our three appetizers were delicious and we were really enjoying them, but our main entrees were served when we were only halfway through our appetizers. In other words ... about 10 minutes later. We felt rushed, and as the server tried to make room for the huge plates, she knocked over silverware and generally caused a bit of chaos. Entrees should be held until appetizers are eaten, unless the diners are taking an undue amount of time eating them. The bread was delicious, light, and fluffy, but no butter or anything to dip it in was offered. No matter how good bread is, it's nice to have it topped by something. We dipped it into the oil from the olives, but there wasn't enough of that. We suggest that butter be offered. The lamb shanks we ordered were decent, but very small considering the price. They were tender, but quite dry. I don't know how they managed that, but I wasn't overly impressed. Plain white rice was also served. It had no taste whatsoever and could have used some sort of yogurt sauce. We didn't mind that 16 percent was automatically tacked onto the bill. We had planned to leave an extra five percent anyway. However, we didn't like the fact that the server pushed a small machine at my husband so he could add an "additional tip." This was not very classy and we felt a little bit pressured. OK, so those are my complaints. On the plus side, the owner was friendly and very nice. He gave us two pieces of complementary baklava and took our picture on his cell phone for their website. He was jovial and welcoming. The server was also friendly, even though she made a few mistakes. We were very impressed and will visit again soon. It's a very nice restaurant in spite of some of the mistakes. We see great potential here. The food was very very good. The appetizers and desserts were above average. It is almost next to Silk Road Afghani restaurant, and I really can't decide which I like better. read more

My only regret in writing this review is that I have to give it a star to do it. The service was miserable and the food not much better. The bread, olives, appetizer and entrees arrived at the same time. The lamb was so tough that even the steak knife - which we waited to receive after requesting it - had trouble cutting it. The insult on top of injury was that the tip was pre-added to the bill!! I couldn't wait to get out of there so just paid and fled. I never post reviews but this one needs a warning. I had lunch at this restaurant today. The food was mediocre, other than 2 pieces of meat that were burnt to a char. The service, however, was the worst I've ever experienced. We were the only ones in the restaurant and the waitress didn't bother to check on us. I had to ask for everything, from plates to bread. When I pointed out the burnt pieces, the waitress responded "oh yeah, we have an issue in the kitchen. No apology. This place also had the nerve to overcharge me. Ordered for pick-up. Service was fast. And food was good but not great. Ordered the grill combo plate for 2 and cheese rolls. The gyro/doner didn't seem to be homemade. It was rather a premade version with generic flavors. The Adana kebab and the chicken Shish kabob were a little dry and not as juicy as you expect. The kofta had a slight lamby flavor. The cheese rolls were good, but could be crispier. Overall a solid experience, especially given the prompt service and location. Will order again. Hope the kabobs become juicier and the gyro/doner will be homemade and authentic. read more

We were on the way to Silk Road, passed this and decided to give it a try. Lovely decor, waiter very proud of artwork of Istanbul and shared history with us. Waiter very attentive. Water was either bottled (at extra charge) or in a lovely decanter (tap) and chilled. We BYOB. Food was very nicely presented and substantial for the price. Very tasty, I am vegetarian and my husband carnivore, and we were both satisfied. Complementary baklava at end was delicious. Bread very good, and we used the olive sauce for dipping although it was fine without anything. The room was too bright for the time (about 5 pm and dark outside already) so we asked for dimmer and were accomodated, gave a much better ambiance. We were the only diners so that felt a bit uncomfortable in the large room, sorry there weren't more. I think they are trying hard to do well. As others noted, we were taken back by the 18% charge, but from travel I know this isn't uncommon in the Middle East and Europe. As Americans, we are used to deciding our own tip even though we do 20% routinely. I hope they do well, this kind of food is very healthful and tasty, even if some have to develop a taste for it. read more
