We have eaten at Silk Road for over 20 years, ever since the restaurant were there 1/3 of its current size. We've enjoyed their lunches and their dinners. We love their salad- fresh tasty cucumbers, tomatoes and ? that makes it great. We like their lentil soup. We adore the special Noni Afghan (or Nan, a staple, long, oval flatbread with a chewy interior and crusty exterior). We like the choice of rice (my favorite is weird brown long rice with carrots and raisins) We have tried most of the meat choice- all are delicious. 3 very different sauces are fun - the white yogurt sauce makes everything tastes great. The service is always friendly,never rushed. We enjoy coming to Silk Road often. read more

Silk Road has been one of my go-to spots for many years, and it never disappoints. Their mantu is amazing, and this time I got to try fried mantu that they offered complimentary--it was delicious! I really hope they add it to the menu. My favorite entrée is the combo platter with spinach rice, which is always satisfying. The chai was a bit too sweet for my taste this time, but still very flavorful. The service is consistently good, and the cozy ambiance makes it feel like you're dining in someone's home. read more

I had one of the worst restaurant experiences I've ever had at Silk Road in Warren. I invited nine members of my family to dinner on 7/5/2026, and instead of enjoying a nice evening together, it turned into an embarrassing and frustrating experience from start to finish. I ordered the Soltani Kabob with Naringe Palaw rice. My meal arrived completely wrong. It was missing the Shami Kabob that is included in the dish, it came with Kabli Palaw instead of Naringe Palaw rice, and the meat was badly burned. Two members of my family ordered Combination #2 from the menu. Not only were both meals missing the Shami Kabob, but they arrived after the rest of our table had already finished eating. Imagine sitting and watching everyone else eat while waiting for your own meal, only for it to arrive incomplete. My son's Combination Kabob was also severely burned. We also ordered bread with the meal. Despite asking for it multiple times, it didn't arrive until after we had already finished dinner, making it completely pointless. What made this experience even worse was the complete lack of customer service. I explained how disappointed I was and how embarrassed I felt because I had invited my family there. No one apologized, no one explained what had gone wrong, and no one made any effort to correct the situation. The only response I repeatedly heard was, "Wait, the food is coming," even though two members of our party didn't receive their meals until everyone else had already finished eating. Mistakes can happen at any restaurant. What separates a good restaurant from a bad one is how they handle those mistakes. Unfortunately, Silk Road failed on every level: incorrect orders, burned food, extremely delayed meals, missing items, and no apology or attempt to make things right. After this experience, I cannot recommend this restaurant and will not be returning. read more

I love this place! I don't know why I haven't reviewed it before, as I've been here a bunch of times when in the area. It's a unique eatery that is delightful for everyone. The staff are attentive, nice, patient and knowledgeable. They're open to requests and substitutions whenever possible and not too crazy, so, for me and my palate and diet, I greatly appreciate that. Sometimes, I am afraid to ask, but they made me feel like it wasn't a problem. The prices are more than your average restaurant, but you get what you pay for, because the service, food and portions are of excellent standards and quality. I love that the dishes come with your CHOICE of rice, because, if you know anything about me, eating rice is akin to breathing air for me. I could live on rice alone. It's so good, and their choices here of 4 different options are just mind-blowing and exciting. The healthful me always says the brown rice option though, so, there's that, the Kabil Palaw. I love the cardamom flavor in the rice that complements the sweet raisins and shredded carrots. Deliciously cooked and delicately spiced makes for a wonderful rice dish good enough to eat on its own. The portions for rice as a side dish are so plentiful, I can make multiple meals of it, as long as I accompany with some other food. Probably the coolest part of this restaurant is their homemade Afghan bread which, I believe, is essentially a naan bread that is shaped similar to a slipper. It's richly crafted, with a yeasty full bread developed flavor, and piping hot out of their oven, it's fabulous with a crunchy thin bottom crust but chewy steamy interior. Nice and thin somewhat similar to pita, but so much more exciting. The salad is also a nice accompaniment, and similar to the rice side to your entree, it is an incredibly generous portion. I love the simple salad with cucumbers and tomatoes and the light dressing. Delicious! I could just eat the salad and rice and be full and happy. The entrees, too, if you have room after all of that, are very generously portioned. I opt for the Gulpi cauliflower every time, and I honestly believe they have half a head of cauliflower (or more) for the entree. It is such a very happy belly amount for me. It's so deliciously cooked in a light onion and tomato flavored sauce, that makes the cauliflower so tender and melt in your mouth fabulous. Love it so much. While I could eat it all, because I love it so much, I have to eat only some and save the rest for later. Everyone will find something delicious here- if you like fish, meat, chicken, dumplings, kabobs, etc. So many great choices. Love this place! read more

I've been here twice so far for a work lunch and it's been consistently good both times. Ngl, I know very little about Afghan cuisine, but I've been having great luck with the chicken dishes. The lunch menu here is an amazing deal and I'm always surprised at how much food is given! Our most recent visit had us ordering the lamb stew and the lamb shank; each with the tandoori bread and Afghan salad. This is probably our 15th time coming to Silk Road and it just may be the only restaurant we can honestly say has never disappointed. Our picky children cannot get enough of the fresh bread, soup, and chicken kebabs. I got the murgh kofta kebab which I will so be getting next time, and my wife gets the filet mignon kebab and eggplant side...They go perfectly together! She orders that every time we go. It is such a cozy restaurant with beautiful decor throughout, found in a strip mall on Mountain Boulevard in the town of Warren. It's a bring your own... I came here for lunch and ordered the Chapli Kabob (Ground beef and lamb patties) with Ladam Palaw (spinach rice) and it was SO delicious. I highly recommend eating it with the white sauce (I took a couple to-go sauce containers of just the white sauce because it was so good). The lunch entree also comes with a starter soup and salad and fresh bread. The fresh bread was also SO hot and delicious. Charming, family owned restaurant that is Halal. The interior decor is impeccable. You'll definitely feel like royalty eating here. The food is prepared with love, service is fast and welcoming, and the portions are huge. APPS: Definitely order the "Naan" for dipping in an appetizer hummus or for wrapping around your meats in the main meal. OR JUST EAT ON ITS OWN. It's a little airier than Indian naan bread, a little crunchier on top, and I love the addition of sesame seeds for extra flavor. The Falafel is among the best I've had. The rich green color inside is a sign that this is falafel done right because there's no skimping on the right herbs and spices. Excellent quality! The Mantu is a must for Afghani cuisine, and at Silk Road they don't disappoint. You have to order either the veggie or meat option! MAIN: Had the combo #2 on top of the "Naringe Palaw". The orange peel made the rice too sweet. I'll go with the regular Kabli palaw next time but I was so happy to see so many different rice options. Most afghani places only offer one kind. That's how you know this place is the real deal! The lamb chops were exquisite! This is my winner and a must order. The chicken and beef kabobs were decent, but I would have liked them to be juicier. Luckily the white, red and green sauces on the side helped and were delicious! DESSERT: Baklava was ok. A little soggy, not nearly enough nutty flavor for me. The "Elephant Ear" was HUGE. Amazing experience here! Came across Silk Road on Yelp and wanted to support an Afghani business. The inside (even the bathroom) is decorated with traditional trinkets and clothing up on the wall. Gentle lighting and afghani music playing in the background to make for a very nice and authentic atmosphere. We started outside before we were chased inside by lantern flys but the staff was very accommodating and moved us inside with no issue. Service was friendly and professional throughout the meal. I ordered the mantu dumplings with ladam palaw and loved it. Mantu outside was delicate and the rice was gently spiced and minty with a green hue from the spinach (healthy!!). The sauces one the table were also amazing, I wish I could have bottled up some of that white sauce. The only downside is that the food was a little expensive (especially at dinner)- hard to find an entree that was under 20$. Disappointing Experience: Bland and Overpriced Food. We recently dined at Silk Road, and I must admit that we were quite disappointed with our visit. The overall experience left much to be desired, and there are a few aspects I'd like to address. First and foremost, the food was simply not up to par. We were a group of 10 people so we ordered a bunch of dishes to dine family style. They all lacked the vibrant flavors and authenticity we expected from an Afghani restaurant. The taste was disappointingly bland, and it felt like something was missing in terms of seasoning and spices. The lentil soup tasted like bland baby food, the Murgh ( Chicken) kebabs were so hard ( at any decent place, they are soft and melt in the mouth), the other kebabs (we ordered Chapli, Shrimp, Choopan, Lamb Shank) were just too bland and tasteless. Considering the reputation of Afghani cuisine for its rich and aromatic flavors, this was a letdown. Another issue that caught my attention was the pricing. The menu at Silk Road leans towards the higher end, and unfortunately, the quality of the food did not justify the cost. I found the prices to be rather steep for what we received in terms of taste and portion size. The combination dish with 3 skewers of meat is $70 - with tax and tip that's well over $86 for some meat and rice. A previous comment from Touseef A (1/15/2023) reflects the same sentiment. It's important for a restaurant to strike a balance between quality and price, and in this case, it felt like we paid more than we should have. The only good item was the fresh warm bread ( which is complimentary only the first time around, for any extra bread, they make you pay for it) and the white sauce on the table. On a positive note, the service was attentive and the restaurant's ambiance was pleasant. However, when it comes to dining out, the quality of the food takes precedence, and in that regard, Silk Road fell short of expectations. I believe that providing honest feedback can be beneficial for both customers and restaurant owners. I hope that Silk Road takes this feedback into consideration and makes the necessary improvements to enhance the dining experience for future patrons. read more

I came here because one of my besties told me about how good the food was here and I was curious about Afghan food since I never had it before from what I remember I came for early lunch and pretty much had the place to myself until the end of my meal - and then there was a good amount of people in there I only saw the lunch menu . I started with trying the dumplings since that was what I was instructed to try my the bestie.. found out that there are two kinds - ashak and mantu. Wasn't sure which my friend had so I tried the ashak first . It was VERY tasty and flavorful. It comes as an appetizer only Just an fyi - the lunch is very filling by itself. So with my lunch and the appetizer- it was too much for me lol The lunch.... comes with a soup , salad , fresh baked naan from the clay oven and then choice of meat/vegetable and choice of 4 types of rice I was given lentil soup, plate of fresh cucumber salad, loaf of freshly baked naan, filet mignon kabobs and naringe palaw ( saffron rice with pistachios orange peels and almonds) Everything was pretty much delicious. The rice was good but different . I'm told that the chalaw rice is the most plain rice At the table - there are 3 sauces. A white yogurt/mayo sauce . A green cilantro type and then a red hot sauce . My favorite was the green sauce - I put it on my meat and my rice I also tried their fresh squeezed carrot and orange juice which was refreshing Staff was very friendly and attentive . I stopped in coincidentally on a long road trip. I never have a big appetite while driving, so I just got lentil soup and doogh (yogurt drink). It was the best doogh I've had since drinking it in Afghanistan. It was well-flavored with herbs and nicely effervescent. The lentil soup was similarly well-flavored and at the right temperature to drink straight from the bowl. I hope to return someday to eat something more substantial. But you get in, you feel like you're going into a European house, warm and inviting with traditional clothing adorning the walls, and dining tables that remind you of olden days. Lamb kabob with plain rice - lamb was tender with reserved gaminess. My kid likes the rice. Shrimp and sweet rice - only 5 shrimps on a large plate of rice. My wife likes the sweet rice. Meatball korma (beef and lamb meatball in tomato sauce) and spinach rice - meatballs were tender and delicious, but I was expecting spinach pieces in the rice but it was just green colored rice, not much flavor. Rice pudding - thick yet you feel the rice grains, subtle spices Elephant ear (deep fried dough with powder sugar, spices and honey) - what's not to like, it's FRIED! Overall, the ambience was nice, the waiters were helpful, the food was delicious, but the cost couldn't justify the amount of meat. A full plate of rice and a few pieces of meat for $28.
