The tailored, bespoked tour was created in conjunction with my sister, who had done her research on the region, but Sean recommended sites and places that we could have never found on our own. We were pretty adamant about having close encounters with llamas and alpacas, which we were told would be strolling along the streets of Cuzco- umm, not true. Thankfully, his team knew just where we could feed them up close and personal and learn more about them. Julio, our guide for the 3 days was knowledgeable, friendly and so very conscientious- at certain parts of the tour, we were traveling alone, and he'd give us super clear instructions as well as call and check in on us several times, especially knowing that we couldn't speak any Spanish. Julio, being a local from the region also knew all the little ins and outs of the places we explored, including best spots for photography. Americo, our driver for the tour did not speak English, but you wouldn't have even known that. He was so friendly, warm and again, concientious. And can we chat about his dressing? So chic and dapper! My sis and I wish he was our warm and friendly uncle we could visit in the highlands...! For a bespoked, tailored tour package, Adventures to Peru was very affordable, professional and a great value. Sean was very diligent in responding to all our queries (silly or otherwise) in a timely and respectful manner. He even met up with us the day prior to our tour to hand us tickets and go through instructions again. And his team was truly top notch. We had an amazing adventure starting in Lima, heading to Cuzco, exploring the Sacred Valley, a train ride to Aquas Calientes, a day at Machu Picchu, time to Explore and hike, a river raft excursion that had us laughing for two hours straight. The hotels were clean, the staff was friendly. Every guide we had was professional, courteous and on time. Every airport we visited had a smiling face to greet us holding a sign with our names on it. Trust me when you don't speak the language, it's a really nice luxury. I felt really well taken care of the entire trip. Sean even called our hotel room to touch base one evening about half way through. His insight is priceless on aspects like travel time, flight schedules, tipping guidelines, and altitude sickness possibilities. He ordered our trip so that we'd be at our best when we got to Machu Picchu. He built in down time just when we needed it. We'd spend hours there...when we weren't at the beach. At night we would spend our time at the UA Marina theater, West World and Perry's Pizza. Seems like a lifetime ago. It was a terrific place to grow up, I'm grateful for the memories. These days you have much of the same, only more of it. Loads of restaurants, grocery stores, nifty shopping and lots and lots of traffic. People too, but that's not a surprise. And traffic lights, quite a few of them. When driving through I had to really pay attention because what was once an intersection with only a stop sign, now there's a signal slowing traffic down. Who only got the job because he was friends with the grandson of original owner and founder Frank Robinson they make you sign a arbitration clause so you can't take them to court because they're getting sued all the time by employees.. and they will lose in a court of your peers if cases went to court . The arbitrator is paid by them bye them and they win for them. So many top quality people have got laid off or quit with a new managers, and the knowledge is so water down being taught by people that are useless , unqualified.. and only have the lead positions because they're brown noses to the plant manager who promotes people been there two years or less .. instead of employees have been there more than 15 years or even longer because he wants everybody to be in fear of him, but older employees know he doesn't know what he's doing and unqualified .. so they aren't even aware of jobs openings to move up because he picks and chooses who the best brown nose would be best . all the high-quality people have left for other jobs , lotta employees have gotten laid off because of personal dislike by the plant manager because they know he doesn't know anything or what he's doing ..

First stop was an off the beaten track retreat with breathtaking vistas and gardens. A camera is a must! Then down to sea level with another hidden jewel that I did not know existed on the Pacific Coast Highway. I you love tile and California/Malibu lore, this is also a must see. You are transported back to a kinder, gentler time as you walk through the house. Next stop was a post modern jewel where we were allowed to to walk around this very unique structure and look in at a time capsule of the period, like the designers and their family had just stepped out and would return at any moment. We had a light lunch and on to the last three stops which were also magical-a serene meditation garden with it's Koi ponds, the Hansel and Gretel House and the oil baron's lair, another hidden architectural and historical gem off the usual tour radar. Here the family lived a self contained life in a mansion which included stables, greenhouses, pools, it's own fire department and an indoor bowling alley which was restored for one of the many films that have been shot at the mansion. Even if you are a native, like I am, take this tour! It is well paced and the guide is very knowledgeable about the art and lore of the different areas.
