I recently charted a yacht for employee appreciation week at the company I own. We all had a delightful time, except for the Executive VP who barfed into the harbor--an unlikely and smelly chum--and caused the fish to start floating belly up in the water! Poor customer service and poor quality of boat. I have to say it's difficult for me to write this review as my family and I were very much looking forward to spending a beautiful day on the bait to celebrate my dads birthday. And all though we still made the best of it it really did not live up to what was promised and the amount of money we paid. So let's start with m: 1. The address did not match what was listed on their Yelp page and created a lot of confusion and frustration especially since we had kids with us. I had to text the owner, Mario, and he gave us another location to charter form which was not at all what was listed on their page. 2. Not sure if the captain of the day,Noah, was having a bad day or what but he was definitely not in the mood to greet us properly. He was very short, not so friendly and barely spoke to us during our ride. 3. The boat was not like the photos they presented or posted on Yelp. I even texted the owner and asked him to send me a few photos of what the boat will look like. It was definitely dirty, the coaches were so damaged and dirty they had black clothes over them. One of inside couches was wet, my uncle sat on it unknowingly making his pants wet and him uncomfortable for the rest of the ride. 4. The table surfaces were all damaged & chipped. We had to be careful for the kids not to get splinters when they would approach the table to grab something to eat. 5. Worst of it all was that we only watched cargo shipments for 2 hours!! On our phone call with Mario mentioned we can go through the canals and even get a far glimpse of the Queen Mary but we didn't. We even asked Noah to take us the other way around into the open water and he said no he needs to this way first (meaning by the cargo shipments). It was very disappointing since it was my dads actual birthday and the experience was completely robbed from us. It's very sad that we wasted over a thousand dollars and didn't receive what we had paid for. And I even texted Mario afterwards telling him our concerns but didn't get a reply back. We celebrated my boyfriends birthday on the Odyssey this past weekend and had such an amazing time! Before departing with the odyssey I kept in touch with Mario as I had lots of questions for him. He was very patient with me, answered all my questions, and communicated with me efficiently. Once we arrived at the odyssey, we were a little confused as to where to park but Mario had a crew member come out to guide us. That's where we met Alejandro. He had a barrel to conveniently assist us in bringing our food and drinks on the yacht so we didn't have to carry anything. He was also super cool and friendly! Once we arrived at the yacht we were happily greeted by our captains Noah and Cardiel. Once the whole party was on the yacht the crew introduced themselves, explained some ground rules, and then we were off, happy sailing! It was smooth sailing all the way. The crew ensured our safety and comfortability. It got pretty windy at one point so the wind blew off one of my guests hat into the ocean, fortunately they helped us retrieve it. We really appreciated the hospitality and the friendliness of all three crew members (Alejandro, Cardiel, & Noah) You guys were awesome! The yacht was much more beautiful in person. It was clean and very spacious. There was more then enough space to accommodate my party of 12 & a child! The yacht provided amenities such as great speakers, a tv (w/ Netflix, YouTube, etc..), an upper sky deck, and cute modernize decor. We also encountered some dolphins along side the yacht and that was a beautiful sight to see. It was such a memorable experience and everyone had such a great time. We had a "COVID" birthday celebration for my twin sister and I on Saturday the 19th of December 2020. We have been looking for somewhere to celebrate our birthday due to all the restaurants, bars being closed and Airbnb's with their many restrictions. The boat was decorated with minor Christmas decorations inside which was real cute and loved the Christmas lights around the outside of the boat. I worked to book with Mario, the owner! I had many questions and concerns but he helped to me understand and make the trip smooth as possible. One of the crew member was very kind to meet us at the loading area with a wagon to load all our food, drinks down to the boat. The captain, and 2 crew members were very helpful and very attentive to whatever we needed. They were very professional and didnt bother our party at all. 10 STARS! The yacht, the captain and crew, everything was a prefect 10! We threw a birthday party on this yacht and it was the BEST DECISION EVER! What fun! Amazing time! Better than expected. It was 40 of us and everyone had so much fun. 40 people was just perfect. I didn't know what size the boat would be when I made the reservation online. The pictures made it look smaller than it was but once on the boat it was the perfect size. Our group scattered on the decks in different sections, some inside the main area, some on top deck and some on front of boat, outside. Everyone was raving about what a fabulous time and good idea renting the yacht was. We had a one-man live band play music, which was also great! We had lots of food and stuff to drink. Lasted 4 hours. The owner Mario booked the reservation and was so helpful and assuring. He guaranteed we'd love the party and he was right. WOW! As soon as I arrived I was greeted by the crew, Janet (the host) was extremely helpful with setting everything up and keeping things in place. She was so friendly also Alejandro helped us out with making sure everyone was on board. The captain, Seth was very kind and well trained, he was very informative on any question we had and great attitude! We were a party of about 25 and brought our own alcohol and snacks. We brought cups and straws but there was already some there. The yacht is very clean and spacious and has a sound system so no need to bring your own speaker! I came here few time and they are just short 2 hours trip around the harbor. This is a nice Yacht, little dated compare to some newer one. But it is still very capable and can fit up to 40 peoples. It has like 2 rooms with several beds. The crew is cool and experience. This is a well kept Yacht despite its age. Consider how many peoples had party in this boat before. Because of the age it does feel very dated inside, but the real fun is when you go on the deck. You can see pretty interesting but not everyone would enjoy the view. you are view punch of big cargo ships container. However the best thing is now see USS IOWA battleship, you can get a nice close up shot. This is a nice first Yacht experience and I do recommend. read more

Wow where do I begin let's start with 5 stars. Odyssey Yacht Charter is THE best in personalize yacht chartering. I celebrated my milestone birthday this past Saturday onboard this beautiful yacht. From the moment I arrived Barbara and crew where there to greet me and help me unload my car of the food and decorations I had. Once onboard everyone was so helpful. Charlie and Dotty wasted no time in assisting me in setting up, And right before we were about to take off I was missing one couple and Dotty quickly ran to the dock to grab my party members. After Captain Darell gave his speech we were off and oh man did I have a BLAST. We cruised for 4 hours around the harbor and my family and friends were so impressed with everything. they couldn't stop completing how nice Charlie and Dotty were great host. I celebrated my birthday on Odyssey and I have to say that the staff and the yacht were exceptionally amazing; everything went perfect. The initial consult to set everything up was easy, flexible, and just a welcoming experience. Mario was the main person I was in contact with and he took care of everything and had amazing suggestions. He even set up a party bus for my guests and I to ride from South Orange County; this really made a big difference because we were safe and we were able to have so much more fun. The Captain was informative and kind and all the staff went above and beyond to make sure all of our belongings were carried back and forth to the car. The ocean was beautiful, we were able to play very loud music and there was no complaints. DON'T LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU. This business ruined my 50th birthday celebration. I found this business on Yelp and thought it was legitimate from the few reviews it had, so I took a chance and booked them for my event. However, I should have known better, we never agreed on a location for pick up and there was never a contract signed (which benefits the business). When I made my deposit the owner assure me that the event was set all I had to do was put a deposit of $1200. Two weeks prior to my event, the owner contacted me to inform me that he had to cancel due to an inspection by the USCG. According to the USCG there are no inspections done on a Saturday specially in the evenings, inspections are typically done with plenty of notice to the boat owner. It took 3 weeks to get my deposit, and only after several texts to the owner who was not responsive, as a last resort, I submitted a claim to my credit card company. Eventually I did get my deposit. I believe this business canceled on me so that he could book someone else, (see previous Yelp review) which is very unprofessional and poor business practices. Happy Sailing! read more

The BEST birthday party I've had so far! Barbara, the owner, was a sweetheart and very accommodating to seeing the boat. Odyssey Yacht holds 42 guests where you can BYOB and food, which was one of the main reasons why I selected this charter to save on costs. Daryl, the captain, was downright chill and made the trip a breeze. All my guests had a blast that we decided on extending our time for an extra hour. Ok, this is not a yacht like in Kim and Kourtney take Miami opening credits, but being on the Odyssey sure makes you fee like it! We went here for my birthday weekend on Memorial Day! The price was very affordable (&1000 for 2 hours for 20 people) it was byob and snacks for no extra charge. The captain and crew were super chill and fun and let us play our own music and gave us an extra 15 mins even when we were 30 mins late to make up for some of the time. The only reason it dosent get 5 stars is because Mario (the owner of the boat) was super unresponsive over text and sometimes call for when we were trying to book the boat read more

I hosted my birthday party on this boat and had a BLAST! The crew were all great, and Steph the hostess was amazing and made sure everything was good to go. I had 30 friends on board and there was plenty of room for everyone. The boat was actually bigger than expected. They had tables set up inside for us to put all our food and tons of champagne on. We had music playing throughout the boat as well. On a hot day, I wish the upper deck was opened up (it had a clear zippered wall) but I'm sure we could have easily asked them to open it. We spent most of our time on the front bow and the inside. All my friends loved it and I'd definitely do it again. read more

I had such an AMAZING birthday this year (despite COVID) thanks to the Odyssey Yacht Charter and their crew! I literally could not have asked for a better way to celebrate. The crew was super attentive and friendly. I was told they were mostly there to supervise but they felt more like party hosts! They served us shots, kept things tidy, and even let us steer the boat. The best part is that they charge you exactly what they quote. There aren't any hidden fees or up charges, even after the boat ride. I'm so grateful that they were able to work with my schedule. I booked a boat ride from 7pm-11pm (most charters aren't as flexible). So we were able to watch the sunset as we sailed. I also really loved that we could play our own music. Their sound system is awesome! The yacht is also very spacious. You can roam around or relax in different areas just like you would at a regular venue. In regards to COVID, I felt super comfortable. Staff had masks on and the yacht had a bathroom where we could constantly wash our hands. Celebrated my friends dirty thirty aboard the Odyssey. Free parking is across the street from the dock. BYO alcohol and food. Captain was really friendly, he even let me steer the boat for a little bit. There were also two other crew members who helped assist. I thought it was kind of funny/weird that the crew members just started eating our food while we were eating lunch. Kind of inappropriate in my opinion. There are 3 main areas to hang out, top deck, inside bottom deck, and outside front deck. Each area fit about 10-20 people pretty easily. Bathrooms were cleaner then I expected. Cannot flush anything in the toilets. They provide a karaoke which loads on a flat screen. The song list is very dated and lacks a lot of the popular oldies that most karaoke list have. We worked with Ashes on the Sea (see separate review) to charter the Odyssey yacht for my dad's ash scattering. Disclaimer: I, as chief planner of the ash-scattering service & memorial event, was supremely stressed in the hours leading up to the event. Much of this is probably colored by that anxiety, which is only now beginning to ebb, several hours later. We had more people show up than anticipated (about 30, as opposed to the 24 I was expecting and initially communicated to the captain). My car of 4 got snarled in traffic and arrived at the dock about 20 minutes later than initially intended, but right at about 10:30am (the intended boat departure time) Pros: 1. I really appreciated a personal call from the boat captain/engineer, Captain Darrell, the day before our scheduled event. He verbally gave detailed instructions about how to reach the dock and gave some general guidance about what to expect. I later received written navigation instructions he had sent Ashes on the Sea to pass on to me-- also useful!! 2. The vessel has a 52-inch screen and speakers for music. I was planning on playing music but it slipped my mind with all that was going on. 3. Captain Darrell and the first mate, Shawn (Sean?) seemed super experienced. Shawn specifically was very conscientious, careful, and considerate. Gabby, our hostess, was also caring and helpful to the guests with mobility issues. 4. Lots of free parking, at least on a weekday, in a lot across the street from the restaurant. Cons: 1. Our guests, many of whom arrived before us, had no clue where the *boat* was on the dock despite having been provided with the name and directions that I had received from the captain. I walked back and forth on the pier a couple of times at 10:30, calling the captain on the phone number he had provided while squinting to try and find this mysterious yacht named the Odyssey. Sometime after 10:30 (maybe 10:35?), Gabby came out to greet us and direct us to the yacht. Boarding was supposed to start at 10:15, per my call with the captain the day before as well as earlier that morning at 10am when I told him we were running a little late. Obviously it did not. This is at least one reason why our service had to be shorter than initially anticipated. 2. Before taking off the captain gave a safety briefing and an introduction to the ship. During this speech there was an elderly guest, a retired navy buddy of my dad's, who persisted in quietly talking to the person sitting next to him. On one hand I can understand the importance of safety precautions etc, but the captain's attitude in yelling at the person talking was pretty jarring and at least mildly insensitive, since the widow of the decedent was sitting just a few seats away. 3. I'm under the impression that the basket they use for the cremains is not cleaned between trips. My brother and husband both observed a fine layer of what looked like dust or ashes on the plastic lining in the basket. The other possibility is that it's salt residue from being dipped in ocean water. I welcome clarification on this point. 4. The coffee was awful. Of course this is a super minor quibble! But it's worth pointing out if the complimentary coffee service is an aspect of the journey that you're really looking forward to! We were fortunate to have beautiful weather and a service that I think my dad would have appreciated. I am grateful to the crew of the Odyssey for helping to facilitate this. Again, as the planner, I think I am more acutely aware of what went wrong or could have gone better. General thoughts that don't reflect on the rating: -I really wouldn't recommend using this vessel (or any other, possibly) for people with mobility issues. You do have to walk pretty far, even if you park in a handicapped spot across the street or (temporarily) at the 22nd St restaurant & grill. -I believe the advertised capacity of this boat was 30+... but there wasn't really much of a gathering space to have all of those people in one spot at the same time for a service. You would have to be on the upper deck/prow/whatever that is called, and there are seats for only a limited number of people unless you take off your shoes and can clamber up to some additional padded spots. read more

The odyssey... More like the shit-yssey ... What a frustrating experience. They tell us to be there by 745 to dock off at 8pm. They don't show up until 815, to tell us they need 10-15 me in to prepare. We finally get on and dock off at about 845... The boat is beat down, furniture very dirty and the floor grimy. We didn't really care much, we just wanted three hours to enjoy together (because that's what we payed for) l. Imagine our surprised when the dock at like 10:55 and proceed to tell they they docked off at 8:20 and it's time for us to leave. The "captain" Nolad then excessively argues that and process to kick everyone off. No decency to even admit that our time was cut short. No accountability whatsoever. Continuing to discuss with him didn't even matter, just started mumbling "I don't care." Under no circumstances would I ever recommend this business to anyone.... Unless you want bad customer service for a cramped experience on a beat down boat..... read more

Absolutely amazing time for all. If you love the sea and want to have a yacht party, I absolutely 5star recommend Odyssey. As far as Charter yachts go this one is the most reasonable and most flexible. The crew was so accommodating and all my guests had a great time. Being able to bring our own food and our own drinks saved us tons of money. We cruised between LA and Long Beach. I would suggest doing a minimum of 4 hours as the party settled in at about the 2 1/2 hour mark and the dancing and singing started rockin'. read more
