I received fast, dependable and accurate service at The Computer Dept. Here's the scoop…read more.. My four year old PC recently started to make a humming noise. I knew that it was one of my fan units going bad, but wasn't sure which one. I have an above average knowledge of computers, but have never made any repairs on my own. For that matter, never before have I needed to take a PC in for repairs. I was a little unsure about where to go. Initially, I took my PC to a famous "big box" store that's known for keeping repair staff on site. Considering they wanted to charge me $69.99 just run a diagnostic and tell me what I already knew was wrong, I decided to take my business elsewhere. Upon searching Yelp for a local computer repair business, I found The Computer Dept. After reading their website and getting a feel for their business, I decided to give them a shot. I am so glad that I did! Steve at The Computer Dept determined that my video card's cooling fan was busted. He had a new card ordered, installed and running within twenty-four hours. On top of that, his price blew the "big box" store away! I was able to get my PC completely repaired (and upgraded for that matter) for just a little more than what the "big box" was going to charge for the diagnostic! Who knows what the "big box" would have charged me if I'd actually let them repair it! When at all possible, I try to keep my business local. You should do the same the next time you need your computer repaired. Go to The Computer Dept!

I am not fond of having to write a negative review. Nor am I fond of being ripped off and ignored…read more My iMac with an older operating system was being hacked. Not fun. The Computer Dept said that they would, for $160 plus tax (I double-checked the price with 'P'), wipe the computer clean, save my documents, and that "it would be like a new computer." Upon delivery they charged me $256, adding on travel time and answerIng questions no one had previously mentioned. What they apparently didn't know is that the Apple Apps that I had used to access my documents are no longer available, even though it was the EXACT same operating system and computer I had. So it is basically useless to me. Why didn't they know that? While they offered to try to get those apps, they found only one of three and it has issues. The fonts are messed up, so when it prints, it's all distorted. I have no access to my accounting and spreadsheets data, nor my art. I do appreciate that at least one person was trying, maybe more to get the apps, but they couldn't. Yet one would think they would have either known that or tested it before delivery. I think there's even possibly a way they could've added those apps from another computer at their store. Not sure. Instead, they actually blamed it on my system. I am not happy to say the least, but they became contentious telling me that my computer was already useless when hacked and that I needed to buy a new one!! I thought I was getting one as good as new. If they believe that, they should never have taken my money. When I spoke up they said they were "ending their professional relationship with me." I certainly didn't see it professional to not take responsibility if a service renders a computer's files inaccessible. What I HAVE is a (hopefully) clean computer with Internet (which my iPad has), ability to open, access but not print documents, no access to important accounting or slideshows. What I DO NOT HAVE is money to buy a new computer. Professionals with ethics would say, "We didn't know this was going to be a problem. We take full responsibility and will refund your money since we did not deliver a usable computer as promised." Instead, they're not responding. I don't know if their Macintosh knowledge is not very good, but in any regard, they should have found a way to either deliver a workable "good as new" computer as promised or refund my money. Maybe you were lucky and got what you needed from this company. But if you have problems, apparently you can forget them taking responsibility, responsive customer service, or compensation for their errors. And absolutely without doubt this was their error.

After going through three frustrating calls with two "geeks" companies and a guy who wanted to sell…read moreus a new computer before even hearing about the problem I had, I found My PC Angel. Mr. Lew Turner has many years of programming experience and many more in computer consulting, diagnostics and repair. He made a house call and found that my hard drive was failing, and that some of the info on it might be salvageable. During Mr. Turner's set-up process (second house call), the new computer I bought failed right out of the box. He patiently worked with me as I did an exchange, and then he did a third house call. This second computer worked properly. Mr. Turner was not only able to salvage all the info on the old hard drive - he quickly set up the new computer, transferred all the old info, re-installed MS Office, put all of my old icons back on the desktop, and gave me a good tutorial on using the new features on Windows and the new computer. Mr. Turner's fees were much more reasonable than the quotes from the other services I contacted. In addition, he is very friendly and personable, he works quickly and efficiently, and he gets it right the first time. In addition, he arrived exactly on time for the three scheduled appointments. I'm a retired management consultant - now in my 85th year - and I have not encountered a more professional or competent service person than Mr. Turner. He and his staff get my highest recommendation. Save yourself a lot of trouble and call him first. BVC - Chapel Hill, NC
