This is my absolute favorite place for ramen. This is my go to for ramen for delivery or for eating at the restaurant. I love spicy food so for me the Hellfire Ramen at a level 5 plus spicy is the best. At other ramen restaurants, I have to order about six spice bombs to get it close to the spice level that I like. When I order delivery, I usually splurge and get extra noodles, extra broth and an order of karaage chicken. The next day, I mix up the extra ingredients to have a karaage chicken ramen. Since moving to San Antonio I have now been to 4 ramen restaurants and Austin's rendition of ramen is still leading the pack. BUT...Ito so far is leading my SA rating for pretty good, not my GREAT rating. I tried the hakata ramen (no corn, no onions, extra egg, extra mushrooms.) My critique...first, it was pretty spicy. Second, the broth was rich but lacked memorable flavor. Third, everything else was as expected. One of my favorite ramen places to come to! Tried the tonkotsu this time and it was so nice and creamy! The spicy ramen is SPICY especially at a level 4. The edamame was seasoned very well and of course the shrimp were nice and crispy. Perfect spot to go when the weather is cold outside, inside very small but your able to eat with friends and family. This was a bit of hard review for us. The owners(I assume) cooking were great, the small space was nicely decorated, and the smells coming out of the kitchen were great. All the anime and figures on the wall were cool. It was just me and the midget, if momma would've come she may have had a problem with the girls on walls in bathroom! The food, well it was underwhelming. Not bad, but not great either. I will just get to the gripe. It was a tad bland. Ok I'm being nice, it lacked flavor. If you do pretty much just one thing, I want to be blown away, and I want to feel the kick of the spice. We ordered spicy for me, and regular spicy for the little one. Bland and no kick. I mean the bowls were pretty to look at. If you say spicy, make it spicy. Our fav was the ika geso (calamari). Man it was good. The takoyaki was also great. I would definitely order it again. This place was amazing when we went. It can get very busy since it only has seating for about 6-10 people. Ramen was top notch and they can alter it to a vegan broth which I believe is miso. Since I don't eat pork, I ordered the Hell Ramen with add-on chicken and removed the flanks of pork myself. I also got a side of add-on noodles, which was a nice addition to share between two people One standout aspect of my visit was the welcoming and inclusive atmosphere. Driving home, my fiancee saw the sign and mentioned she had never had ramen, and I have never been to Ito even though it's in the neighborhood. So we made the quick decision to go in and give it a try for dinner. Pablo was up front and gave some great recommendations based after asking us some questions about what we were looking for flavor-wise. I got the tonkatsu ramen and my fiancee got the hakkata, then we also tried the Japanese egg rolls and gyoza. Grabbed a spot in the "cozy without feeling crowded" dining area that made for a great impromptu date night atmosphere. Everything came out quick and was absolutely delicious, and can't say enough about the kitchen staff who clearly put a lot of care into every dish they send out. Perfect portions matching the price, and both of us ended the meal stuffed without feeling gross overly full. I'd have to say, I enjoyed this cute little ramen shop. The inside is decorated with all different anime, including one of my favorites, Dragonball Z. I had the Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen and my wife had the Tonkotsu, we also ordered the spicy edamame, kimchee, and the fried rolls. All the items we tried for the first time were delicious, so good in fact I wish there were more noodles in the bowl. The only thing I would change is maybe the sauce that is drizzled on top of the egg rolls. The service was very impressionable, friendly and polite. You order at the register first and then take your seat. Again, it's a small place, so there's no seating hostess. The ramen from here is very tasty and I'm pretty sure they put butter in it which makes it tastier. This location offers a hellfire Ramen that you can get on a level from 1 to 5 in spiciness. Small kitchen does not, in my opinion, validate as an excuse to get away with offering overpriced ($5.25) Canned options that aren't clearly listed on the menu as such. My previous visit the Thai tea tasted Terrible. I informed the counter person and she said they'd been receiving lots of complaints. I suggested the batch might be bad. She said they'd check the cans expiration date. Not a great way to promote yourself as authentic but can be overlooked. What can Not be excited is the experience from today's visit. I ordered a spicy pork (#3) for my daughter and a spicy veggie (#5) for myself. I didn't check, as I so obviously should have learned by now to do Every Restaurant Every Time, to verify they rang the correct items. I was given a total and paid. Turns out they rang me for #4 Ito spicy ramen which is listed as literally a non spicy veggie ramen. No biggie. My order name was called, I picked up to see 2 pork dishes on the tray. I called back the staff to inform them one was meant to be veggie. They promptly took the #4 ramen dish I was rang up, and just as promptly returned it to me, minus the pork slices they fished out. ...Just No. Not acceptable. I was informed the broth is the same. Not anywhere near the point. The bowl was taken back to the back again, to have a person speaking with managerial like authority (no introduction was made so I cannot verify this) pop out seconds later to ask the issue. I explained I wanted veggie, I didn't get veggie, and I wasn't ok with reading a bowl of ramen that didn't start full veggie. I was told ok. Sat down, few minutes later the (manager?) Brought a bowl to the table that was hurriedly placed in such a manner as to come off as slamming. Mumbled something to which I responded thank you as they just as hurriedly left. Replacement dish as pictured. Overall, how do you trust a place that puts meat in a veggie based entree, fishes it out and considered it acceptable fix, and bills you for Thai tea like they make it? Sadly I no longer can. Goodbye Ito. There's plenty of other ramen houses in the area that I'm sure will appreciate my business enough to not insult me with fished out pork product from my vegetarian meal. read more

Was craving ramen really badly while in town and decided to give it a try (though, coming from Austin, nothing beats Ramen Tatsuya for me). I had low expectations for any of the ramen places around SA, but this one wasn't terrible. The place is extremely small, so best to do takeout unless you get there at a good time and can get yourself a spot at one of the few tables. It's cozy and has relaxing vibes, though, and the service was good. You order at the counter and they call your name or bring it over to your table. We tried the honey cheese puffs (3/5) and both got the traditional/original Tonkatsu ramen (3/5). The cheese puffs were straight forward, but a bit small. The Tonkatsu broth was pretty good - a bit too salty if we're being nit-picky, but overall decent. The bowl just lacked depth in terms of what else was in it, and the egg was certainly disappointing in flavor. Overall, it was okay. We had friends visiting from out of town (who enjoy watching anime) and this was a treat for us. We enjoyed seeing all the art/shows represented on their walls. Fast & friendly. but the food was such a let down. i ordered the spicy edamame and as soon as that first bite hit it tasted like ash. it was chalky and after the first bite i decided not to even finish the rest of it. i also ordered the karaage chicken and it tasted like it had been fried in old oil. yucky. lastly, the mochi ice cream is just the regular old mochi ice cream you buy from the grocery store. still loved it but i was hoping for more. also somewhat let down they didn't have a mural in the women's bathroom but had one in the men's bathroom. That's beside the point. Even though i didn't have the ramen, i won't be returning.
