Pretty good, but not my favorite. The tonkotsu ramen had a flavorful broth and was deceptively generous with its portion amount. It came with a sheet of nori, half a soft boiled egg, and two slices of pork. Soft boiled eggs are my favorite part of any bowl of noods, and this was a darn good egg. The price was also very competitive and reasonable. I can count on one hand the number of restaurants that sell takoyaki and taiyaki, so bonus points to Ito for serving up these anime fan favorites. Speaking of anime, I wasn't sold on the garish anime vinyl decals plastering the walls. It made me feel like I was in high school/early college again, and not in the good nostalgic way. The service was good and exceptionally friendly, the ramen was ready fairly quickly, but they seemed to have left my taiyaki fall to the wayside. When I inquired about it, it was sitting on the counter in the kitchen, kind of like an afterthought. Since I had finished eating, I just asked them to pack it to go for me. Regardless, Ito had been on my "to try" list for a long while now and I'm glad I mustered up the energy to go give it a shot. I may come back to try some takoyaki and other menu options. This restaurant turns away single customers. I've come to this restaurant between 7:30pm to 8:00pm on THREE separate occasions and been denied a seat--despite the restaurant being nearly empty. Each time, the person working the register has claimed: "We're out of food" or "We're closing; take-out only." This is flat-out unacceptable, given the posted closing time of 9:00pm or 9:30pm which is more than an hour from closing. Even worse, the employees are totally rude--not even offering an apology. If you're a single person who works late or simply dines alone, AVOID this place like the devil. They will not let you eat here. Enjoy the recession. read more

Ito has been climbing it's way up my list of favorite SA ramen joints. I gave em a taste early on during their soft opening and wasn't super impressed but after giving them another shot a few months ago, my interest has been renewed. Pretty close to my job but being an "eat at ya desk" gal, I appreciate the easy online ordering options. Things are always packed super well and promptly ready for pickup at whatever designated time I select. My go-to is the Tonkatsu ramen with a side of chili oil and if I'm extra hangry, an order of the karaage. The Tonkatsu broth is rich and creamy, the tender pork belly melts in your mouth, and the chili oil gives it all a nice kick. The karaage is fried crispy but the chicken remains super juicy. I recommend it more-so if you're dining in than to go because the fried coating absorbs moisture during travel and loses it's crispiness. The restaurant itself is clean and has neat murals throughout paying homage to various anime. Mellow beats are pumped at a comfortable volume and some impulse buys in the form of chopsticks, snacks, and Japanese sodas are up for grabs near the register. Most of the staff works away in the back only coming out to take and drop off orders, might seem strange to some without lingering waitstaff and what not but I dig it. read more

Came for dinner on National Ramen Day. The interior is decorated with anime/manga characters and overall looks pretty cool and swanky. The tables are set together and bar stools are on the side for additional seating. We placed our order and waited for the meal. The ramen tasted ok, but it wasn't very fresh and chewy. The soup was a little too salty and the cha siu wasn't flavorful and tasty. It broth just didn't have the creamy pork flavor I'm used to with very top quality ramen (and ramen in Japan). I probably would not go back, but I might just to give it another chance. Overall, it's one of the better restaurants for ramen in San Antonio. My Go to ramen place, the vegan spicy ramen is the best I have had so far. Ate this place so much when I was pregnant and even more now. The service never fails they always greet you and welcoming. I heard good comments about this place from a friend. But haven't got the chance to try it in store before COVID-19. So we ordered takeouts today. Hate to say this but we're disappointed. Seeing good reviews on Yelp so we're kinda excited when we decided to give it a try. We ordered three different kinds of ramen. Sadly we're so disappointed. All the ramen noodles were overcooked, way overcooked. It was all mushy and so short. To be clear we often order ramen to-go from different restaurants during this COVID-19. Some also overcooked their noodles but never this mushy. Don't know what happened to Ito Ramen's noodles. As a mom who have packed lunchboxes for my family for several years, I understand the inevitable differences between freshly cooked food and packed food. I mean, noodles getting soft despite being separated from soup? Acceptable. But mushy and short noodles? Really? The wood ear mushrooms tasted bitter. (Why???) I love wood ear mushrooms and this made me so sad. Soft eggs were too salty and lacked the sweetness Japanese marinated eggs should have. My kid loves Japanese marinated eggs so much he usually couldn't have enough of it but this time he didn't want to finish the extra half we ordered for him. Shio seafood ramen soup tasted weird and kinda bitter too. Miso ramen soup tasted okay though it could be better if there's a bit of umami, and it smelled like dirty kitchen cloth (why??) The only soup we found acceptable was tonkotsu however we couldn't finish it either which is untypical for us. It somehow has a bitter aftertaste too. (I know some ramen restaurants char ingredients before making broth. Could it be an over-charred or even burned situation?) When the timing is right we would very much like to dine in to give it another try. We are not picky eaters and would rather believe this sad experience is just bad luck, either the staff screwed up our order or they really need to figure out a way to maintain the quality as best as they could when making takeouts. I have been craving ramen and I finally gave in. I have been wanting to try this place for a while a I love Ramen and am on a mission to find the best in San Antonio. I love that they had no contact pickup where you can order online and at the given time your meal will be in a designated pickup area. When I got this home everything was nicely packaged and still hot even though I don't live very close. This was what it looked like put together and of course I got an extra egg which is my favorite. This was very good Ramen, not the best I've ever had but the best I've had in San Antonio so far and it met my craving. I would eat here again. read more

My husband and I are slightly, sort of (very) ramen snobs since we're used to really good ramen in LA and we've both been to Japan multiple times. So we both kind of gave up finding good ramen in San Antonio after being disappointed time and time and time again. But then we finally gave Ito Ramen a try and I'm glad we did bc it's the first ramen place in SA we'll happily go back to! The tonkotsu broth was flavorful and the noodles perfectly done. The meat was unfortunately not so great, but that's the least important part of ramen for us! I ordered the tsukemen and it was the wrong noodles (same as the ramen noodles, not the thicker kind) but still it's the closest to good tsukemen that I've found in SA. And the takoyaki was straight up excellent. It's self service so order at the counter and don't wait at the table for ten minutes like we did, oops lol. So coming into Ito Ramen, I had to manage expectations. We were visiting from Austin and I have been to Japan before. But my friend who we were meeting really recommended this place so we gave it a try. Boy this place is tiny for a group of 5. We kind of had to squeeze into a small table to make it work. We ordered the Takoyaki and the Sweet Green Tea Matcha to start. The Takoyaki was exceptional, just the way I like it..soft and flavorful. The Matcha was a little more on the sweeter end but was very enjoyable. The Seafood Ramen was what I ordered and I felt like this was a disappointment. The noodles and broth were tasty but the lack of seafood in my Ramen makes me not recommend this dish. My wife ordered the Tonkatsu Ramen and this dish was better. Nice big pieces of pork. Overall managing my expectations, this is a pretty authentic Ramen restaurant, probably the best in SA. Be aware of the small space, it's not meant for big parties especially during peak times. Probably my favorite ramen place on this side of San Antonio! I have tried a handful of ramen places in the area & I always find myself going back to Ito ramen. Their pork tonkotsu broth is the most savory that I've had. It's not over bearing & adds A LOT of flavor to the overall bowl. Their noodles are also another one of my favorites. They are perfectly firm but soft at the same time. I don't like overly soggy/soft noodles that you can tell have been sitting in the broth for awhile. The inside of Ito Ramen is kinda small, but I usually pick up so it isn't a big deal. Hopefully they'll be able to expand soon so there is more seating! I haven't had any other varieties of their ramen, but from how much I like the pork tonkotsu ramen I'm more than certain I'll enjoy the other ones as well. Another note to add is that ordering to-go is SUPER convenient. You can do it online through their website & pay for it as well. So when you walk-in you literally pick up & go. Quick & easy! There will be around twelve different kinds of Ramen representing the different regions of Japan. They are currently tweaking their menu and are currently during their "soft opening phase". Right now, they only have 1-2 Ramens available. I was lucky and got to try the namesake "ITO Ramen" . WOW!!!!! The broth for the ramen was freaking delicious! I was very pleased! It is a small place with seating for no more than 20 comfortably and the owners are very big on this place being a "word of mouth " kind of place. This place is going to be one of those gems that just explodes once everyone starts finding out about it. I just have to mention that the Japanese Eggrolls were fresh and phenomenal and you'd be cheating yourself if you don't order some! You all gotta try this place! You're going to love it! read more

Don't let their higher price fool you This is the best ramen in SA Here's why There is Japanese city pop playing for music, food is self serve so there is no tipping required, the walls are filled with anime decals, the employees are very nice to you, and most importantly the ramen is Immaculate. To explain they make their pork belly topping for their ramen so well, it's filled with an incredible amount of flavor and is so tender that I swear it falls apart in my mouth before I even get the chance to chew it. The tonkotsu broth they use is so incredibly creamy, it's obvious they cook their tonkotsu broth thoroughly to give it such a creamy texture. Their noodles are perfectly past al dente and remain bouncy throughout your meal. They don't hold back on topping their ramen with the addition of being able to add more if you'd like. Takoyaki is an excellent appetizer here and i also recommend their karage chicken. They have a wide range of ramen choices each tasting completely unique from the last. This is an amazing ramen place that I think is CRIMINALLY underrated. 10/10 definitely gonna eat again read more

Strolled into this little hole in the wall Ramen shop last night. Blink and you might miss this spectacular Ramen eatery. The layout is reminiscent of those from New York, close but doesn't feel crowded. We were so so so impressed with the Ramen broth, WOW! Having tried several other ramen shops in San Antonio, this one definitely stole the show. The pork practically melted in our mouths.
