I personally think its been a waste of money. I am not happy with the DC match makers or the service. For the amount of money you pay more follow up could be done, effort and professionalism to really find a good match. Why should you have to beg someone when you pay sooo much money to do their job? The canidates are not that physically attractive for the amount of money you pay (not saying looks are everything but just an observation) and they could pay for the meals for the dates imo...at least for the first date (for what you are paying thats not unreasonable). I realized how much money I wasted and how I was taken advantage of emotionally because I am vulnerable becuse I really want to meet a nice guy I have a geniune connection with. I am old school and very traditional. A man should do that and impress his date and put effort into courting a woman. The dates I went on I honestly didnt feel any effort from the man nor was it intentional and I will not chase a man. There model benefits men more than woman because men can go on dates with random women and not put in any effort into one or pay for a drink which is no different than a dating app. Even the dates I went on the matches didn't feel the dating services was authentic with making good matches but I was shocked they still were paying so much. On another note, if you're a black female, they need you. It's a "you'll take what I give you" mentality even though they're as nice as can be. This organization is unreliable and a waste of $3000. Please please please do not utilize this service. In the beginning, it sound so true to be real but the one and only date was unacceptable as the person had to take a call from work. Honestly, I can't even give one star (more like negative 5 stars). After three attempts to call the COO and the leadership team, I received no response. Instead, they lied to my credit card company when I try to obtain a refund or even a partial refund within a less than 30 day period. I was contacted by Michelle from IJL on Aug 15 trying to get me to re-join their dating pool. I explained that I was NOT interested based on a very expensive & non impressive past experience. However, Michelle was very pushy & promised me 6 fantastic men that were waiting to meet me, based on my profile. She said they were all perfect with a lot of commonalities. She was so persistant in her quest & told me that I was going to be SO happy with these 6 candidates, so I joined at the expense of $2500! Not only was there nothing in common with the first date, but I had to drive over an hour into another state to meet him! I expressed my dissatisfaction with the first date & told her I wanted to back out of my contract as I'm not seeing anything like she promised me. She said I could not back out of my contract, that there would be no refunds. I went on a second date which again had nothing in common with. The third date was not looking for a relationship, he was only interested in a hook up & made that quite clear - not for me! So again I explained how disappointed I was with IJL. I received a call from IJL on September 26th about another 'perfect match' and the date took over 6 weeks to set up. I never met him until November 8th which was at the end of my contract. Again, this was not at all what they promised me. They are only looking for people to set up with other people, but honestly you can do better on a dating app where at least you can use 'filters' to find common interests. DO NOT SPEND THE MONEY with IJL to date just 'anybody's' that are not even anything you're looking for! I wish I could get my money back since they lied to me to get me to join. I have been using it's just lunch for almost a year. I enjoy the convenience of the monthly date they book. They set me up on a blind date and give me the gentlemans bio so at least I know their race, age, and interests. During the shutdown we did Zoom dates which kept us safe and saved time. Now we are in person and it's nice to be out an about at a local restaurant and not have to worry about setting up the date. Horrible company and customer service. My dates got progressively worse and farther from what I was looking for. My matchmaker was unresponsive when I told her one of my dates was a creep and making sexually inappropriate comments. I was shocked at the lack of response to this. At the end of my 6 months I was unsure if I still got my final date and sent an email with a few questions to clarify the membership. I received a curt response a few days later saying I get a 4th date but she did not answer any of my other questions. At one point after hearing nothing for 2 months - i sent an email asking if they were still looking for dates. At the price tag of the membership, I would expect more communication. Ongoing with the BBB to try to get them to hold this company accountable for their unethical business practices and gross misrepresentation of their services. Sadly their 'agreement' that you sign is legally watertight and even forbids class action lawsuits (Since the NY lawsuit). The staff will disclose private information about you that you have told in confidence to set up dates. They clearly do not have any local matches and soon you will be travelling miles and miles for a lunch, ALL of my dates stated the same. Cleverly they NEVER email descriptions to you, even if you specifically request a copy they only ever tell you them over voice calls so you have no verifiable evidence if you get into a dispute. They of course record all their calls so they can pick and choose what to use and what to ignore. They will literally say anything to get you going on the first few dates and they are not happy if you decline anyone. 5 dates, $3200, very nice other members and good conversation (a lot about IJL) but we had nothing in common, certainly not the same zip code ! read more

I had an awful experience with IJL. Kimberly was my matchmaker who consistently showed signs of NOT doing her job, not caring or even listening to me. If you get into this service, you are getting into blind dates. If you don't care about physical attraction, great, but if you do, these people choose for you. I requested specifically someone who shares my values that is someone who is progressive or liberal. Every single match with one exception, were conservative and some racially biased. Kimberly and her staff are absolutely clueless and useless. They promised 2 dates a month and i was set up only once a month AND one month I was not set up to go out with anyone, yet they took my money for the month - $100. They don't care about stealing your money. The experience was DEMORALIZING and made me want to quit my search for love or a partner. They charge you an outrageous amount to enter the service and then a monthly fee. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY. I rarely write reviews, however I had the same experiences past women had with IJL. I look for the best in people. I'm sure we'll all meet someone for us one day. IJL is a scam. They're salespeople who overcharge and don't deliver. They may hear you, but they don't effectively listen. Charging over 6k for premier service is ridiculous . IJL is no different than other sites if you know what you want. I teach yoga part time which I made the mistake of telling Sandra. My first date told me he always wanted to date a yoga teacher and winked at me. I called Sandra and asked her to take it off my bio. She never did. I had to call 4 times and finally spoke with a manager in California. I wrote my own bio after 5 months. They were so off. When dates didn't show up they counted that against me. I had a limit of dates.. one per moth for 5 months.. that's not matching that's a numbers game and you just hope something sticks.. IJL is worth zero stars. My next call is the better business bureau. It's your employees responsibility to give clients accurate information. If the bio isn't accurate how can one "match?" Regarding the last week. This review is specifically for the Washington DC office. ILJ is swamped with women clients and lack men. Of the men they do have, i have found them mostly to be BITTER federal government workers or men who look like my grandpa. I'm attractive and have no problem finding dates on my own but joined because im busy and wanted another source to choose from. I been on over 30 dates in the span of over 2 years and have only met a match i thought i liked once. This match did not feel the chemistry with me but i appreciated his straightforwardness. He told me that sometimes IJL has asked him, even paid him to go on dates with women they knew would not work out for him but needed it as a favor because they don't have enough men for all the women members they have. I paid almost $4k to be able to access members from other cities. After realizing the lack of options from the DMV office, i insisted they pair me with someone out the area. I've been ignored and to this day have never been matched with anyone out of my area despite paying $1k premium. They then had the nerve to attempt to get me to upgrade by paying $10k to what they call an elite pool of clients. You'll have much better luck on a dating app. read more

To respond to the business who replied to my review. Yelp doesn't let me post the amount of characters I wanted so this is a great opportunity to continue the post and add a bit more. My third date was not my ideal match but better than the first two. The ironic thing is that on the date we started talking about the dating service and he literally said 'it's like they are taking random names out of a hat.' On his two dates before me the first person didn't even show up and the next showed up late and then said she didn't like the restaurant and then was like I'm leaving to hang out with my friends. He tried to convince me to go back to his place after the date which made me uncomfortable. For that reason and the fact that we still weren't compatible I never ended up going on another date with him. On my fourth I did something I have never done... I left immediately after being seated... This is something I would've never ever have done if they actually let you screen your matches (something that they only let the premier clients do who spend even more than us - if you can believe people are spending more than us). I am willing and have dated older men as in 8 years older than myself. A lot of the time this works because they are more mature and just because you are older doesn't mean you are suddenly unattractive. There are ton and tons of attractive older men! To be able to be with someone in the long term you have to be attracted to them. They don't need to be a movie star but there has to be a bit of chemistry. The man that I was matched with was very tall and boney with a huge balding spot. He was actually standing near the line to be seated when I walked in the door. Not for a second did I assume he was my date. I even asked him if he was waiting in line. Once I got to the front to tell the hostess I was here she pointed behind me telling me that was my date. My heart immediately started accelerating and I felt my stomach drop. I was so incredibly surprised that the dating agency would ever set us up. I started having an actual anxiety attack and I said to him I'm sorry but I've been having problems with the dating agency and I won't be using them anymore. I know this isn't going to work out I'm sorry. He was nice about it and said I respect that. I left. I sat in my car mortified for everything that had just occurred. I HAVE NEVER just left after meeting someone. I have even went on blind dates that my friends have set me up with and never felt the need to immediately leave. I have been on 32 first dates since becoming single. 4 of these dates being from it's just lunch and the rest from various apps such as: bumble, tinder, match, ok Cupid and just meeting people in real life. All of these free and minimally priced dating apps have yielded much better results (sometimes even leading to a second date) than it's just lunch. None of my dates on these dating apps have been late, had poor etiquette, or divulge an unhealthy amount of information during the first date. TO BE CLEAR these guys are who they are. There is someone for everyone and I wish them the best, we are just not a match. It was suppose to be the role of the agency to properly match and screen people which they completely neglected to do. It's all a numbers game. And if you think about it, it's in their best interest to not match you properly. If they did match us properly we would have no reason to continue to pay their monthly service fees. It was not at all worth 225 dollars for each of these dates I went on. These 'matchmakers' did not put 900 dollars worth of work into these 4 dates. The fact that they won't refund my membership fee even partially shows how little they care about their clientele or about doing a quality job. DO NOT TRUST THIS DATING SERVICE. They do not care about actually finding you love. They care about keeping the profits flowing and accomplish this by misleading and promising false hope to those eager to find love. Since this review: I have had people contact me saying the same thing has happened to them! And they are seeking financial compensation through the legal system! I will be one of those people as well. These people are such scam artists. When I tried to get my money back I ultimately ended up talking to the head person in Chicago. CONs: They are contractually only required to send you on 2 dates a month (which is exactly what I got, while others had 2x dates a week). When changing my preferences I was told it was irresponsible of me not to keep my options 100% open. Set me up with dates directly outside of my preferences. It is a true numbers game and they set you up based solely on who is available. HERE IS THE KICKER: After both my boyfriend and I left the service (due to entering into a committed relationship) the service has attempted THREE TIMES to break us up to reclaim us as paying members to this "service". I joined IJL because my workplace was nearly all female, I didn't have many friends because I was new to the area, and I wasn't interested in finding someone online or in a bar. I was set up on many dates and most of them were decent men. All were successful and educated, and most were kind. One was a perfect match. Of 15 or so dates in several months, I found two guys that I liked a lot, two that I didn't like. One stood me up. One of the guys is now my husband :) As a younger woman (mid 20s), I was younger than all of the men. My advice is this: Be brutally honest with the IJL people and make sure to go over what they will say about you and what you want to hear about potential dates. Decide what you really won't stand for in a potential mate and be vocal. They'll want you to be flexible, but be yourself and stick to your guns. Don't be afraid to stand up for what you want (and don't want) because it's your money and time! Ask the matchmaker questions about your dates. Consider your deal-breakers and talk about them. Make sure that IJL is honest about you to the potential dates! I met a man who only liked blondes and shouldn't have been set up with me. Afterward, I called IJL to make sure they were clear on certain things so they could be correct when they described me to men. Don't waste time - if it's obvious to you right away that you wouldn't date the match, be honest. It's his time and money, too, so no sense in throwing it away on a date that will go nowhere. I don't recommend this dating service at all. When I was initially contacted by the match maker, she was very promising and made it clear that I will at least get one date per month. (You pay at least $3000 upfront and $98 per month) the idea behind it is great. All of the working professionals who don't have enough time to socialize and meet new people and are ready for a steady committed relationship get matched up based on your preferences. The match maker told me that there are a lot of guys that meet my criteria and I'm definitely a great "match" for many of them. She also made it seem like these are all successful professionals who just don't have time to look for their "soulmate". It all sounds great, right? Except this wasn't the case at all. I kept my meme hers hip for 7 months, which means I should have at least met 7 guys. But I only met 4, because the other 3 canceled at last minute and I wasn't rematches with anyone else that month. But I still paid for 7 months. The guys that I did meet, were nothing like what I had imagined. One of them was even a student! There are not successful professionals who don't have time to meet new people. They were guys who simply can not get any dates. And I hope you know what I mean. If you want to sign up with them, and waste $3000+, just keep in mind that they over promise and under deliver. And to respond to your comment Amy, I "declined" to see only one person AFTER he canceled his date with me last minute and thank you for reminding me because when I told your employee that I do not want to see that person anymore, she was so rude to me. And definitely after 7 months of this what makes you think that I wasn't going to cancel my membership?? I signed up with this company when I lived on the East Coast, I was promised a specific number of dates AND that they would all be in my area. After three months and all of two dates (both over 50 miles away), I asked for a refund. I was told not only that they would not refund my $1,200, but they were incredibly rude. I asked for the Corporate number to speak with their President. I was told, "Our President doesn't speak with clients"! Pretty arrogant! However in my 6 month membership I have yet to exchange my # with anyone. Most of the men I met were not at all what I am attracted to physically. They also failed to notify me that my 6 month membership had expired, and just began charging me a monthly rate. Classic case of a business that has no business being in business. I can't say it's a scam since I don't know what's in their heads or hearts when they separate you from your money and dignity, but it sure felt like a scam. There's zero science or skill to this. Dating services, including online sites, are numbers games, and this outfit just doesn't have the numbers, which is not surprising given the breathtaking fees they charge. Consequently, they throw you with whomever they have in their rotation at the moment, regardless of whether the prospect fits your criteria. I told them at the outset that I'm a nonreligious, progressive urban dweller. They set me up with a God-fearing Trump voter from the rural parts of Virginia an hour outside D.C. She was as happy with the match as I was. Nice woman, just an abominable match on both sides. The rep who hounded me to sign up was about as sincere and forthright in her representations as a carnival barker and as dumb as a rock. She wrote my bio based on a phone interview -- and got just about everything wrong. I discovered this a few weeks in when I asked what they were telling my prospects about me. I had to rewrite my profile. If you get a call from Sandra, RUN AWAY! What's astonishing is that you pay a ton of money for the service but you get a fraction of the information about your dates than you get on Match, etc. They refuse to show you photos of the people they set you up with, which is astonishing. I discovered on my first date why they don't show you photos. All you're told is your date's age, height, marital status and a few meaningless factoids: she's a consultant, she likes to travel and enjoys the theater. No shit. Who doesn't? For that, they charge the cost of a Caribbean vacation. Speaking of the cost of a vacation, they decide where you'll meet. Invariably, it's at a pricey, crowded restaurant where it's hard to find a quiet place to meet and chat. Don't get hoodwinked. Stick to Match, OKC, Tinder, Bumble or the check-out line. You get more dates, more information about your dates and thus better matches, and more control over whom you date for a FRACTION of the cost of this colossal waste of money. I can see why It's Just Lunch is hurting. Last Monday, 4 January, I got a voice mail message from someone named Patty asking me if I had gotten her invitation. But I don't know anyone named Patty, and she didn't say how I knew her. On Tuesday 5 January I got another voice mail message from "Patty" saying she wanted to double check that I got her invitation. Still nothing about who she is and where she was calling from. On Wednesday 6 January, I got yet another call from Patty, who attributed my non-return of her call to me traveling. In this message she finally indicated that she interviewed someone that she really thought I'd like to meet. Apparently it never occurred to Patty that I just am not interested in working with It's Just Lunch anymore. In fact, I told them several years ago to stop calling me. There are several reasons for this. First, they are lousy at what they do. Second, I told them that I only wanted to date Jewish women, and that seemed not to be that important to them. So I'm not sure why they were calling me after I told them I wasn't interested in working with them. My biggest problem is that Patty was somehow determined to get in touch with me, but felt it wasn't necessary to tell me who she was and why she was calling. I find that dishonest. It's no surprise that It's Just Lunch is hurting. It's hard to compete in a word where Tinder, J-Swipe (the Jewish version of Tinder) and other apps offer free-be dates. Obviously some of these dates through Tinder-like apps will be duds sometimes. But in the case of It's Just Lunch, this service is always a dud, all the time. I wish they'd take me off their call list. Like I say in my rating at the top "eek! Methinks not." Very expensive ... but for what? read more

This place is the worst. After calling years ago to find out about their services, I declined after discovering their exorbitant fee and little guarantee. 8+ years later, I am still getting calls from blocked numbers and random voice mail messages. I have told them repeatedly to take me off their call list. Do not trust these ppl. Do not share your info w/ them. Epic fail! They received one star due to a technical flaw on Yelp's part. read more
