I love going to this candy shop! They have such a variety of things to purchase. They have bulk candy to buy by the pound as well as a lot of novelty candies that I haven't seen in other stores. I love their decades section - candies sold in bags based on the popular candies of a certain decade. I'm a big fan of all the different bulk candies, though! They organize them nicely based on type of candy (chocolate, gummy, hard, etc.) They do have some more "inappropriate" candies towards the back of the store (think bachelorette-appropriate, not so much child appropriate) so don't let your child stray too far if you're concerned about that sort of thing. The employees have always been courteous and attentive - very helpful when you just can't decide what to get. In addition to candy they also have some small gifts like magnets, mugs, etc. read more

I stopped in to get some candy to bring home to my grandsons in PA - the cans of candy designed to look like cans of fruits and veggies caught my eye, so I grabbed three of those. We were hyped to finally go to this store. We thought it would be the proper replacement to the candy store that was on the opposite side of State a few years ago. So I brought my kiddo to It's Sugar as a fun Back to School treat. Let me say, the colors and presentation are AWESOME. The lady at the counter was super nice and available for questions. The variety of hard/non-chocolate candy is great and you can find some throwback and foreign choices as well! For those of us with kiddos, be mindful that this is a candy store on a college campus. There are some anatomy and curse word themed gag gifts in the back of the store that may lead to additional (potentially cringeworthy) conversations with your kids after you leave. Lol! That aside, our experience was mostly positive! So why two stars? Well, It's Sugar has "cereal box sized" boxes of candy in their windows. You can get two boxes for $20, if you so wish. I agreed with my kiddo that we would buy ONE box for the FAMILY to share. Plenty of candy. First, one large box of candy, a small box of "Marshmallow Madness" candies and two lollipops came to about $20 with tax. Surprised but knowing it was a theme store, I dealt with the blow. The nail in the coffin was the cereal sized box of candy. We were under the impression that it would be FILLED with Sour Patch Kids or bags of it. My son opened the box to dump ONE BAG of Sour Patch Kids onto his lap. ONE BAG that would retail at Target for $3.50, $4.00? I should've just bought the middle finger sucker. read more

I walked in here, and within 5 minutes, filled a bag with $30 worth of gummy candy. That's got to be, what, like 2 lbs or more? I wish I could say that it took me longer than that to eat it. SUGAR RUSHHHH. This place is awesome. They were having a special when we visited, giant sweet tarts on clearance for $5 and 2 for $20 of the other giant candies. I had to get the worlds largest container of Nerds. Yumm! John, the owner was incredibly nice and helpful. He even gave us some jelly belly samples while we shopped. They have recently expanded their candy collection to contain British and Japanese candies. We snagged the last bag of green tea kitkats! I also loved that they're working with local non-profits, donating to kids in need. They are expanding to Milwaukee and Chicago soon. Can't wait to visit their new shops. read more

Remember Spencer's in the local mall? Populated exclusively by teenagers? IT'SUGAR is a cacophany giant Willy Wonka candy branding, "retro irony", really giant candies (Costco cereal sized box of Nerds), Marilyn Monroe merchandise, and a separate section for penis shaped candies for bachelorette parties. There seems to be relatively little candy here; the candy by the pound is outdwarfed by novelty items. It would be more appealing if they had candy; their chocolate candies were mostly Hershey Kisses & malted milk balls. If you need a bit of modern kitsch, stop by, but for candy, the average grocery store would have more options. read more

I've resisted coming into it'sugar because I have a weakness for sweets. And cute things. But I thought I might find some grumpy cat merchandise/Christmas cards, so I braved the scene. Maybe I shouldn't have. I feel like I was Charlie in Willy Wonka land. Or maybe more like the fat boy. I WANT A PIECE OF EVERYTHING. Ok. I am not impressed by the giant packages of US Chocolate brands like Reese's, nerds etc. BUT they have all these cute merchandise!!! The Japanese candy?! Erm. There's. Green tea Oreo here everyone!!!! And the newest fad - making candy sushi or donuts!!! I can't believe I'll have a chance finding it in Madison. So yes, hurray for japanese merchandise and hello kitty, Star Wars jelly bellies. And I thought the soft toys of name brand candies/chocolates were great! Went for dessert, amazing! We were in there for 30 minutes, great music, huge selection, helpful staff. Have lots of old fashioned candy, toys, and gags:) Definitely recommend going! Only thing was one man who was quitting tomorrow was very negative but overall 9/10. Would have been 5 stars if they had the throwback bandaid gum in the tin. It's Sugar Gag gifts are forgiven. But, they sell candy cigarettes. Based on journal articles, candy ciggs are a gateway drug (they normalizing smoking). It'sugar are unrepentant when this was pointed out to them. Any advantages are negated. Also, annoying music, 1 star. Would not go back. However, I had walked into the store previously just to look around, and then gone back later with the sole intention of buying some sour gummies, so I wasn't too disappointed in the available selection. This place is cute and filled with candy...how could you not love this place?! However, the store is pretty small and though they have A LOT of candy, there isn't much variety. On the day that my husband and I went, they were having a mix and match sale which was pretty cool. The customer service could be better. I don't want to make a sweeping generalization for the employees as a whole but this is one outstanding exception. One female employee in particular talked to me in a very snappy and impatient tone that did not make me feel valued as a customer. She raised her voice so that the other customers in the store also heard her. The candy is awesome, but the service is a bit hit-and-miss. Last year I went into this store for the first time. A very nice clerk explained how the bulk bins work: There's this whole mess of awesome candy -- about fifty tubs of the stuff -- which you can buy either in a bag by the pound, or by the flat-rate box. The box seemed like a better deal, so I did that, and it was... fine. But I would actually have liked to get a bit more, and the candy was sort of squished together. So this year, though it might cost a bit more, I decided I'd just go by the pound. A very nice clerk asked me if I'd shopped there before, and I said yes, so the clerk let me have at it. I started filling up a bag with yummy stuff. There are four displays full of yummy stuff, and I'd just made it around the second display. A different clerk -- not the nice one -- came up and basically grabbed the bag out of my hand, saying it would be cheaper if I bought the candy by the box. He then dumped it in the box for me, squished it up a whole bunch, and took it to the register. Dude. I was not done shopping. I was going to buy more stuff. I was going to put it in a bag where it wouldn't get all squished. I was going to give you more money. I don't understand why this should be a problem for either of us. So, a big yessssss! for the candy, but some mixed results on the service. read more

One of the employees there was very rude and made me feel beyond uncomfortable. My friends and I decided to drop by after dinner for a dessert. As we were browsing we heard the bald man who worked there say "Don't come in if you are not going to buy anything." As if it were illegal to look around. A couple minutes later I was feeling the hat on a gummy bear and he yelled at me not to rip it off. I told him I was just feeling the hat and he proceeded to tell me I was ripping it off. After a couple minutes of him arguing with me, I decided to ask my friends if we could leave because of how uncomfortable he was making me. Then he proceeded to call us rude. read more

Like other reviews mentioned, selection is not amazing. For example, I glanced at the jelly bellies and thought they were about $6.50 a pound, so I got a bag. Turns out that was for a half pound-won't be back to make that mistake again! Honestly just go to Woodmans. read more
