Stopped here after having dinner down the street. Always nice to have a little ice cream after an asian meal. We have had Chocolate Shoppe ice cream before, but never at their actual location. The shoppe is on a bustling corner. It's awnings are outfitted with the brand colors. Pretty distinctive look. Inside is a long counter with many of the most popular flavors. There are table either inside or outside. Got greeted by one of the several servers that were helping the different customers. It was a tough choice but we ended up getting the "This $&@! Just Got Serious" and "Heaps of Love". We got them in cones (my was the chocolate dipped), but because it was warm out we had them place them in a dish - good idea! Found this ice cream shop on Yelp while visiting downtown Madison close to the school while on a work trip. I got the Rocky Mountain fudge which was a combination of vanilla, chocolate, and had chunks of fudge brownie as well. I have tried 6 different flavors of ice cream at Chocolate Shoppe and all of them have been very delicious tasting. This is the best incarnation of it I've found - I'm one of those people who have spent decades trying to hunt down a successor to the original Baskin-Robbins licorice ice cream (which, I'm told, was oddly white in colour). Not much demand out there apparently, but as a true black licorice fan I had to give it a try when I found Chocolate Shoppe. They've shipped me two orders which were well-packed for travel, cartons were intact, and ice cream was fresh and cold. I can heartily recommend the flavour (if you're a real licorice fan, not some red plastic licorice wannabe-fan) and expect to keep returning for more myself (I may even try the Dark Chocolate).
