Hungry, in the area, and heard a lot about the place. So the natural course of action? Give it a go, of course. Bonus: it wasn't busy at the time. Service is... odd. Order food here, order ice cream there, or order both at the first place, then pick it all up somewhere else altogether. Might be better if the cashiers didn't act like it pained them to explain this to me. If they'd been as busy as I hear they get, and I'd had to resume the back of the line because some cashier couldn't be arsed to direct me appropriately, I would have simply walked out. Anyway, service aside, I ordered the Big Panther (basically a large double cheeseburger), onion rings, and a cherry nougat shake. Dining partner ordered a chicken sandwich, fries, and a raspberry something something shake. My shake was good - marshmallow ice cream (which wasn't too sweet), plenty of maraschino cherries, and a generous heap of pecans; very smooth and silky otherwise, certainly a quality shake, but nothing mind-blowing. My onion rings were also good for a freezer product, with a surprisingly pleasant crunch to the breading and they weren't bland. The burger? Totally different story. It was a hefty sandwich of wilted veggies, too much mayo, and two blackened paper-thin patties that made a Whopper Jr. look juicy. Absolutely disgusting. My dining partner's sandwich was equally unappealing: looked and tasted like pre-packaged deli meat chicken (which was cold) slapped on toasted supermarket bread, topped with more wilted vegetables and the thinnest, saddest looking bacon I've ever seen. By the way, I've heard a lot of high and mighty claims from rabid fans that this place deserves more respect because they make their own ice cream. Well, they don't. But again, they do SERVE good ice cream. At any rate, I will not be going out of my way to stop here again. It gets 2 stars on account of the ice cream was good; would be 3 stars if said ice cream wasn't five dollars when I can get custard from the unfortunately-of-equal-quality Culver's for a lesser price. I have found heaven and it is about 5 miles from the middle of nowhere. That's right i'm talking about ivanhoes baby. I was in the mood for a little hoosier filet mignon aka a breaded pork tenderloin sandwich so mom suggested this place. Awesome. Tender on the inside, crispy outside and great flavor. The onion rings are also some of the best i've ever had. Against all survival instincts i've ever learned I said "nay, regurgitation be damned" and decided to order desert. What better to fill a stomach already beaten into submission than a vanilla shake? They have 100 different shakes and 100 different sundaes, if you have a death wish you can try them all and get a spot on the wall. It's often packed, loud, with long lines and two-counters for ordering, but I think they break up exactly what you can order at each counter. I had a bad experience here, but I was still very satisfied with the finished product. I wanted to just stop by and get a shake because that's what everyone raves about. So I get here around 4, you would expect it to be pretty slow right? not the case at all. There was a line wrapped around. So I stood in the only line that was there. Finally I get to the cash register after two old men in front of me pay with change.. and I say could I get a shake and the girl quickly snaps back that Ice cream only on the middle register. I look over and see an empty register with no one and no one standing in line. I reply that I was sorry I didn't realize this was my first time could I just order it here this time since I already waited in line? she says no this is for food only. So I make my way to the other register and of course a family walks in and sneaks in front of me. so I wait in line some more. finally I order a IWU wildcat shake number 1 (there are two versions) which is a chocolate shake with kit kat pretzels mixed in and topped with peanutbutter. sounds amazing I know. so I stand where some other people are standing and wait. Each girl that was working seemed like they didn't want to be there. and were moving as slow as possible. an older lady next to me says that she thinks they forgot about her since she had been waiting so long. I agreed and said I'd been waiting now for 30 minutes. Finally I get it and it's spilling all over the top. the milkshake is runny but still good. I still give it four stars because I was a newbie at this and I know small town places have a way and you just have to adjust to them. Great ice cream but the way ordering and picking up works is an absolute mess. If you want ice cream you go to this line, if you want food you go to this line, while there's about three entrances to the store on each side of ever line allowing people to come in and immediately cut in line with no words from the staff. Was there for over an hour, never saw anyone even wipe down a table. Floor doesn't get swept due to people standing in lines. Decor is 50's midwest. My wife and I took our young kids out to celebrate my wife's birthday with her family. We ordered our meal which was approx 25 min wait not bad at all. After we ate I went to order ice cream (one sundae), the line was long, but manageable at first glance. While waiting I am observing how things are run, because I have time to kill. There were paper orders all over the counter in a jumbled mess, customers standing in line forever waiting to place their order, customers standing against the back wall waiting forever to pick up their ice cream. There were several times where it would take 5 mins plus and not a single persons order would be called to be picked up. It's a sea of people waiting, and waiting for an absurdly long time. They really need to figure out how to speed things up. I've been coming for years, and I'm glad they are doing so well, but I'm not going to wait over an hour plus for ice cream, no matter how good it may be. After the hour mark it wasn't worth it, there were still several orders ahead of mine that were still in need of being fulfilled. I ended up asking for a refund which they were nice about. Our little ones had waited long enough and they were getting restless/almost time for bed. I will try again someday, but it won't be for awhile.
