We had such a pleasant encounter with the receptionist, Nicole, from the moment we walked in and were placed with 2 masseuses who were top-tier and gifted with the art of touch. Our couples massage was beyond rejuvenating and serene for each of us and we were truly able to decompress (and leave a lot of muscle knots behind on the table)! We both left feeling SO much lighter, connected within our bodies and to each other, and grateful we accepted the offer to give Unwind another chance. I am so impressed with the level of intention and care that the owner, Antonio, has displayed in making sure that we were in the absolute best hands the second time around. He was very apologetic that we had an off day on our first visit and really turned things a total 180. It's evident that he is passionate about his business, is extremely detail-oriented (the decor is GORGEOUS!), and has strived to exceed the 5-star reputation his establishment deserves. Helen is incredible for deep tissue, especially hip work. She goes deep, she's effective, and she is not afraid to work through tension. This is not a light, spa-style massage. It's therapeutic, intentional, and results-driven. Exactly what I want. Heajin specializes in Thai and lymphatic massage, and she is phenomenal. Thai massage is more like assisted stretching, and she incorporates it beautifully. She also took time to explain lymphatic flow, gave me tips on how to support it at home, and clearly cares about long-term wellbeing, not just the session itself. One thing to note: at Unwind, therapists may get on the table with you, especially for Thai or deep tissue work. That's part of the technique and something to be aware of if you're new to that style, but for me it speaks to how seriously they take proper body mechanics and effectiveness. The space is calm, professional, and welcoming, and the level of skill here is outstanding. No paying a meter was required. My massage therapist was Mike and my husband's massage therapist was Kimberly. The couple's room was tight so I could feel, see and hear every time my husband's therapist talked to him or when she moved. My husband felt that Kimberly just couldn't get the pressure right even though she asked. He also felt like she took a break after every touch so there was awkwardly long waiting periods. He said her touch was often too soft even though he told her the pressure wasn't enough. She was pleasant; notwithstanding, she just wasn't the right therapist for him. Mike also asked me once about the pressure and at the time, it was okay. As the massage went on, it became uncomfortable. In all fairness, I should've spoken up. The elbow and forearm down the back and around the shoulders was the most painful. We got the massages on Monday morning and I'm still in pain on Wednesday. This is the first time I've asked for a male massage therapist and boy could I tell the difference. The pressure alone was intense. The best part was the scalp rub and the lavender scent (although there was something mid-massage that smelled like mildew). When asked what areas of focus before starting, I mentioned that I wanted my mid-back and arms focused on because I have carpal tunnel. Those areas weren't paid any special attention--they were simply apart of the regularly scheduled program - upper left, then upper right, then lower left, the lower right, then flip and repeat and end with scalp. This was the process for both my husband and I though he was flipped front a lot sooner than I was. Overall, I wouldn't mind returning if I'm in the area and trying another therapist.

I have been going to Ivo for massage for over 5 years, sometimes weekly. He is very well trained and really talented, his massage is very detailed and he never fails to address all problematic areas. Ivo has been able to help me greatly with a number of back, neck and joints issues. More recently, his therapeuthic massage helped me to recover from a painful back injury and he literally brought me back on my feet. Regardless of what kind of massage one needs, chosing Ivo will always be an excellent choice. I have been seeing Ivo every week for the past three years and I cannot speak enough to his professionalism and care. He is always on time, he is always polite, and he is patient. He always ask the client where they want to work on first and works with them to make sure the pressure is at their level of comfort. His knowledge of muscles and the human body also cannot be beat - he always knows which muscle hurts when you tell him the area you are sore. I came here for my back and neck pain. I've been to tons of massage places and most of them do nothing for me, but Ivo's different! I bought a pack of 90 minute massages right after my first try here. He really works deep into every muscle! He puts incredibly hard and good work into every massage. Thank you Ivo for getting me in so quickly and ironing out my kinks. My shoulders, lower back and legs were in need of some therapy! The massage was terrific, great attention to these areas and you have an amazing touch. The location is perfect, just steps away from Dupont Circle's Metro. Ivo understands the aches and pains of weekend athletes. He knew exactly how to loosen up my back/shoulders and calves that have been tight from years of biking and swimming. He was also able to tackle knots in my back that I could never get to myself by using a foam roller. Ivo is very professional, kind, and a skilled practitioner. I do mostly endurance training and get a 60 or 90 min massage every 1 or 2 months during the season. His massages speed up my recovery after a long workout. He isn't afraid to use high pressure or to address the IT band which I really appreciate. I workout a good amount and a 90 minute session takes care of all my stiffness/soreness. A day after the massage, my body feels recovered and stronger. Everything is very clean and organized. Nothing but good things to say about Ivo. I've been to a few massages now with him and he is really great. Aside from being a very nice guy he is basically a human foam roller. Strong hands and all of the hurt you want in a good massage to get out the knots, but gentle enough that he knows when to pull back so you can relax too. Highly recommend giving him a try. Centrally located and convenient in DC just off DuPont Circle, I leave every time relaxed, loose and without my pesky shoulder pain that shows up from time to time before my visits. This afternoon I had a two hour deep tissue/stretching session with Abe. I've never had an experience like it. He finds the problem areas and works them like a virtuoso. With massage and stretching, he pushes right to the limit (exactly where I wanted it) but never beyond. He maintains remarkably smooth and consistent pressure during deep strokes. He's truly a consummate professional with extraordinary talent. I live in Maryland and, yes, I'm one of those who avoids "crossing the river" at all costs. Abe is worth it. And as a bonus, I didn't get lost on Chain Bridge Road! The space is very nice -- spotless and comfortable. It's in one of the buildings in an office park. Leave yourself five minutes to find the correct side of the building he's in.

I don't think this specific issue can happen again, but I do feel obliged to say that it did happen, only because I wish someone might have warned me. I'm sure there are bad apples anywhere you may go, but please heed my warning and speak up QUICKLY if something feels wrong.

In our hour together, Dominic listened attentively and was very intuitive about what my body needed. His background in personal training gives him added insight about what might be causing imbalance. Because I was a new client, he checked in frequently to make sure we were on the same page. I walked away feeling less sore, more aligned, and with more mobility. Equally important, I felt safe, respected, and cared for throughout the experience. Facilities are immaculate and incredibly well located in the Farraguts, so easy to step away from the office for a "long lunch."

The facilities are clean, the staff and masseuses are professional and kind, and their services are very well priced. I've paid much more for luxury hotel spas experiences, but honestly, Etalon is where I continue coming back. Sara L is my favorite masseuse. I see her for foot reflexology and personalized deep tissue massages (always 90 minutes, because 60 isn't enough time). She is incredibly talented and very sweet!
