I am a recent graduate from…read moreAvenue Five Institute in Austin and a Licensed Esthetician in the state of Texas, which is reputably one of the best "beauty" school programs in the Nation.  Avenue 5 offers an auxiliary Eyelash Extension Class which I took. After finishing it, I didn't feel secure or even capable of taking on clients or charging for services. I also shadowed a friend who paid a substantial amount to train with a reputable Austin based lash brand. While it wasn't terrible it was nowhere near the quality of education from LABS.  Enter LABS. LABS did a presentation at our North Campus in Austin and I was immediately intrigued. Dee's no nonsense yet funny persona pulled me in. We discussed their training program and here is where they separate themselves from their competition. 1. They do not offer crash courses  "Learn Classic and Volume for $1200+ in just 2 days" nonsense. They are focused on EDUCATION. They offer a 2 day Classic, 2 day Advanced Classic, 2 day Volume. All separate. Why is this important? Because trying to learn a high skill cap profession in 2 days with too much source material will simply take your money and set you up for failure. LABS DOES NOT DO THAT. They focus 100% on education, retention of that education and support after you finish their class. 2. Current Proprietary Curriculum. At Avenue Five I ended up paying far too much for a lash kit and virtually no true understanding of healthy practionining. Lash Health, Work Safety and Ergonomics. We were taught methods that were dated and contrary to current trends and equipment.  With LABS you are given a solid foundation of not just performing as a lash extension technician but how to maintain body health (wrists, back, shoulders, neck), and proper eyelash consultation and evaluation (what lashes and eyes look/do best with what types of lashes). 3. Growth & Critical Feedback. I'm a firm believer that without honest critical feedback, you will never grow. If you don't like being told what you're doing is wrong -- get out of this business, you are simply doing yourself and future customers a disservice. It is paramount you know exactly how good you are, where you stand, and where you need to grow. LABS does not MESS AROUND with this. Dee is the best. She is straight up but kind and supportive all at once. She will tell you immediately that you're doing something wrong but will sit with you until you get it right. She will not give up on you or let you give up on yourself. But if you are sensitive and need to be hand held and your performance sugar coated -- beat it. Go be bad somewhere else. 4. Tools. Their glue, lashes, and instruments are some of the best I've used and I've used quite a few, including JBLashes, Borboletta, EBL, and random high rated Amazon trash. You're given a wonderful discount for training with LABS which has made a big difference in the output of my work. My lash technique and performance after 2 days in an intensive Classic Training Class with LABS changed how I looked at my future and my skills. The difference in my work was tremendous. My lashes went from looking like sad mistakes to promising artistry. I cannot recommend their training program enough. Out of all my education, my money spent here was by far the best ROI I could hope for.  I absolutely plan to come back for Advanced Classic and Volume training.  It has been 3 months since I completed my course training with LABS and to this day I can text Dee and she will walk me through my work and continues to critique and offer endless continued support.

With no other option, I decided to try out my friend's lash tech. That same night, I booked an appointment for the next day in the late evening. The day quickly approaches. Before even stepping foot within her studio, I received a reminder of my appointment via email and text message. Throughout the process, Kalyn (lash tech) was in close connection with me. Fast-forward, I'm sitting in her chair about to pass out (yes, the chair is really that comfortable), and Kalyn pulled out a book. This book is actually one of the reasons I decided to come back, as I never had a lash tech consult with me before about my set. Due to it being my first time as a client with her, she consulted me. She went through my allergies, goals, expectations, proper lash care, lash strength, duration, the process, concerns, and questions I had, and noted the products and set used. She then topped it off with a lash bath. Yes, ladies, a free LASH BATH. The atmosphere the entire time was calming and relaxed. Kalyn was able to successfully change and flip between conversations and quietness with no awkward silence. My lashes turned out beautiful. They were full, curly, and light (which was odd because I booked the mega volume). After my service, she addressed comfort within a lash set, the duration of lash, lash care, refills, and follow-up. Lastly, when it was time to go home, she walked me down just for her to return back to her studio. The next day, she followed up with the status of my lashes. My experience has been like no other. She is one of a kind. Kalyn is so good at her craft and puts forth 130% each time. Being a client of hers has been an amazing experience. Ladies, when I tell you, she is punctual, honest, humble, kind, patient, and communicative, I mean it. She explains things so thoroughly that she adheres to clients who have never gotten extensions before. Even as an OG, I was able to see firsthand the incredible knowledge she holds. In the past year, they moved to their own separate office building now, which is nice because it's easier to find their office and there is plenty of parking in the area. It's not even that much further down from their previous office building that they were in. Drew makes me feel so comfortable every time I come in. First of all, getting waxing done in general already feels uncomfortable and usually hurts quite a bit (if you have a low pain tolerance like me), but I feel like the time goes by so fast every time I come here. My appointments normally are about 15-20 minutes long, which doesn't feel like it at all. Drew is so easy to talk to, and I love catching up with her every time I come in. The technique that she uses also doesn't really hurt as bad compared to other waxing places I've been to before. The salon was clean, organized, and had a nice, relaxing vibe. Nancy took care of my pedicure and did a great job! Very thorough and gentle. Minh handled my full set, and I loved how my nails turned out! The cat eye and chrome combo came out super cute and exactly what I was going for. Service was professional, and I didn't feel rushed.
