The finest coffee shop in Asheville. The coffee was supernaturally delicious -- rich, fragrant, dark. The best bagel I've ever eaten -- caramelized flawlessly and smothered in spices. The patrons were very colorful, and friendly, and the staff was generous and attentive. The confines were charming and comfortable. I really enjoyed the music, too -- Guided by Voices, Deerhunter, Modest Mouse, Neutral Milk Hotel... You can't go wrong, friends! See you there. Details: Outdoor seating is abundant, including a covered porch. Comfortable seats inside -- around 25 patrons and you're getting pretty cozy, I'd imagine. I love the drinks here. Love the coziness of the place. Most of the staff are friendly. However, the upstairs floor is dirty. I mean it's not swept /vacuumed often. Maybe not ever. I've even asked if they could clean it. I love the location and vibe (mostly) of this place and want it to be clean! It seems like such a simple thing to clean the floors. I come here regularly and always sit upstairs due to the quite nature of the space. I keep hoping they'll clean it. Not yet. Anyways, they have good drinks so I still recommend. I travel all over including UK and Europe, spending nearly every morning in a coffee shop working remote. Asheville is one of my favorite places. I'm here 2-3 weeks at a time, 2-3 times a year. This is my first time at Izzy's. After hearing about it for years I am disappointed. the space itself and the young lady working are great. downside-$2.75 for a small drip coffee and no refills (not even discounted refills) is unheard of and not competitive. Izzy's was the closest coffee shop to our AirBnB, so it was the logical choice for Saturday morning breakfast. We had a large-ish party so I scoped out upstairs to see if that made more sense for us and was a little disappointed that there isn't much seating (or comfy seating) available upstairs. Really no issue with that, just a tinge of sad. All in all, we loved this place. Ample parking, great location. A few of us ordered the special latte - the "cardigan", which my sister described as "tasting like Christmas". My scone was delicious and we all felt warmed and recharged from our visit. I spent this past weekend in Asheville for the first time, and my friend and I ordered coffee from here twice. During my first visit, I ordered an iced blackberry latte and an Asiago cheese bagel with cranberry habanero cream cheese. Not to be dramatic, but it was one of the most interesting combos I've had on a bagel thus far. The texture and size of the bagel was perfect. Upon my second visit to Izzy's, I ordered a hot Karma latte with almond milk which tastes like liquified chocolate chip cookies that are burnt around the edges (in a good way). The Karma latte has a rich, toasty-chocolate flavor. I highly recommend this business as a visitor from out of state! read more

Years ago, when they were only on Lexington, Izzy's was great. They would have good music playing, the staff seemed fairly content, every month or so new local art would be on the walls, and the coffee was dark, strong and awesome. Now all of that has changed. No music, the staff is generally indifferent and / or unhappy, the same art and stickers out for sale year round, and they have switched their righteous dark coffee to the light hipster cat piss that you find almost everywhere. Great space but the spirit of this place died long ago. I suggest Bean Works down the street... or if they are closed, find a Starbucks. Yeah, Starbucks is a big evil corporation but at least they serve a consistently decent cup of coffee. read more

This is probably my least favorite coffee shop in Asheville. I've been here probably 5 times and every time, the baristas are unfriendly and unwelcoming. The space itself is fine. It is a very small coffee shop and there are no tables that feel at all private. The food options are very limited and yesterday there were flies flying all over the cookies and bagels. I will say that I very much enjoy their chai but other drinks I've had were nothing special. People seem to enjoy this place but it is not for me. read more

It get sooooo safe you're reading this after COVID know that this business took it SERIOUSLY with a window to order through glass and a delivery window that felt very very safe. I don't think I've ever seen any of them smile even once, and they act as if you're putting them out by asking for a cup of coffee (isn't that why you're there?!?). I for sure love this place, a little out of the way at the end of West Avl but the coffee is just the best. Before writing this review I have to admit that I read all the other reviews and noted that people have issues with the service I have to admit that I understand from time to time but it also is one thing that makes it charming to me, I don't need chipper people yelling names of customers that orders some complicated Frappuccino drink , I just want a coffee and they make these just delicious. They give you cups if you decide to stay in, they have metal straws for sale and a little amount of small sweets to eat like chocolate cookies and scones they also recycle. If you want to sit on your computer and work quietly you may want to go upstairs it's super quite and private there. There is usually enough parking and you can sit outside when the weather is nice. The only thing is that they should fix the upstairs deck and where the heck does there baked goods come from? It's all so expensive and the scones are tiny! I really enjoy Izzy's on Haywood! It's not too out of the way after I'm done at the humane society so I make the trip often. It's in West AVL and it's in a location that makes it a little less busy than other coffee shops. It's in an old yellow house and the vibes of the place are immaculate. You can find merch and local art inside and it's usually some cool stuff, kind of dark but unique. The service is a hit or miss, sometimes I get a great barista who is chatty or a great barista who appears to enjoy their job, other times I get a barista who barely says anything, not even "what can I get you" and seems like they hate their job. This can really make or break an experience- on those days I skip the lingering around and grab my coffee and go. It's super cute and quaint on the inside and you can go upstairs for more seating. Their baked goods are usually pretty good and they have their own cream cheeses and they're all delicious. The veggie one is amazing, I wish I could take an entire jar home with me lol. My coffee has always been good from here, but honestly skip the chai tea... at least when I had it, it was pretty bland and didn't taste much different than water. What a fantastic and welcome addition to the West Side. I'm thrilled to see that not only has Izzy's found a great space on Haywood rd, but they've really made it their own. I was thrilled to walk in today to the smell of fresh baked cookies and fresh brewed coffee. This space used to feel quite sterile, but is now thoroughly welcoming. I can't remember if the upstairs was open as a seating area in this location's previous incarnation, but there's now a cozy room upstairs that would be perfect for a small book club meetup. Ross and the rest of the Izzy's team have been slinging some of the best cups of coffee in Asheville for years now, and I'm thrilled that they have a location with a much closer proximity to my home now. read more

I was very disappointed with the customer service I received last Friday morning. My sister and I came in and both ordered chai lattes, one with coconut milk. The sizes were wrong, and the drinks were just plain gross. I'm not sure if the milks were bad, or the chai, maybe oversteamed and burned, or if the proportions were just WAY off, but we both poured our drinks out after we left. I went inside (my sister was outside with her dog) to ask about the glass of water we had ordered, and the barista replied "no, I can't get it, I'm busy." I don't like nag, and I understand that everyone has a bad day, but customer service is so important (I come from a restaurant and coffee shop family) for a positive experience. I've been going to Izzy's for several years and love both locations, but definitely enjoy the cozy, relaxed, bohemian atmosphere of the venerable, ochre colored house on Haywood. The year-round Christmas lights make it feel even more warm and welcoming. It's the perfect stop before i head Eastward down Haywood to the record shop, bars or other locations. I've had some brief but stellar conversations with one of the baristas who always seems to be playing the best music i've never heard before. (The other location has really great electronic music). He knows some excellent underground hip-hop. Discovered a lot of new music there. This dude is fast, polite, up-beat and well trained but always super relaxed which really complements the atmosphere of the coffee den. I do like their selection of uncaffinated teas, sometimes coffee spots seem to force you to stay wired by not offering enough quality herbal teas. This isn't one of them. Another plus is the easy, off-street parking; they have their own little lot. Definitely an Asheville favorite of mine. A+ read more

Izzy's has finally opened in their new location on Haywood Rd. If you've visited the previous business at this location, you'll immediately know why it took a while for Izzy's to open when you walk in. They've done some major renovations and it looks fantastic. There's loads of space to sit and have a quiet conversation over a delicious drink. When I go out for coffee, I usually just get black drip. But for my first visit to new Izzy's I got my favorite coffee treat, a dirty chai with a double shot and soy milk. They of course nailed it with their house made chai. We live within walking distance of this location, so you'd better believe I'll be coming here a lot. As a bonus, they have a box at the entrance to collect donations for OurVOICE! I've always loved downtown Izzy's and I'm so glad to have them in our neck of the woods now too. read more

For a long time now, Izzy's has been our favorite coffee shop in Asheville. So suffice to say, it is a real treat to have them on the West End of Haywood. The new spot is amazing and has a very similar vibe to the Lexington Avenue location. Like a phoenix rising from the creepy ashes that was once WL, Izzy's West AVL is a beautiful, recently-renovated (no more weird back room!) old house, with an amazing selection of perfectly-roasted coffee and teas, often served with the latest ambient Julia Holter/ Oneohtrix Point Never/etc. release. I usually just order their drip coffee, which is aromatic and roasted to perfection. Every once in a while I get a real craving for one of Izzy's Frozen Karma's, which are simply fantastic and the perfect compliment to one of their variety of bagels and cream cheese :-0 read more
