The greatest thing about John though was that he called me, sought more information to correctly diagnosis, and then after driving the car around and checking things out decided that he was not confident in what the issue was and decided it may have been a fluke and that he wasn't comfortable making a repair that he wasn't 100% sure was the actual issue. This is my first time leasing a vehicle from Acura and this is definitely the last time. This is a 5 minute call and I'm not even worth that. I worked initially with Richard Giuliani, Sales & Leasing Consultant, who was courteous, welcoming, and helpful throughout the process. However, once Mr. Hernandez became aware that I was attempting to negotiate pricing--a standard and reasonable part of the car-buying process--his approach toward me changed significantly. He intervened abruptly and questioned me in a manner that felt confrontational and dismissive, including interrogating me about a prior purchase made at a different dealership. His tone and demeanor made me feel uncomfortable and disrespected. I left the interaction feeling attacked rather than valued as a serious customer. Additionally, I am deeply concerned that racial bias may have influenced how I was treated. As an African American customer, the level of hostility and lack of professionalism I experienced stood in stark contrast to the respect one should expect in a sales environment. I am a high school personal finance teacher in North Philadelphia, and I routinely educate my students about consumer rights and discrimination in the marketplace. It is disappointing--and troubling--that I personally experienced the very behavior I warn my students to be vigilant about. I recently took my car to Shiva's for an inspection. I'm new to the neighborhood and needed a…read moremechanic nearby so I can walk to and from. A google searched showed Shiva's as the closest. Before this, I was having trouble with my car - the check engine light has been on for almost the entire time I've owned it. Two previous mechanics told me it was the catalytic converter and both offered to replace it for about $900. I barely passed my last inspection and I knew for this one I was going to need this check engine light issued solved in order to pass. When I took my car to Shivas, as I expected, I received a call saying that the car failed the emissions test and work would need to be done. I immediately informed him that it was most likely the catalytic converter since two mechanics had told me that was the issue before. He said he would look at and and decide the best course of action. Later, I received a call and he informed me that it was more likely to be one of the O2 sensors and a replacement combined with a "carbon cleanse" would solve the problem and allow the car to pass inspection. Finally, it worked and Shivas saved me about $650. There is the possibility that the check engine will come back on but that's much better than spending $900. I don't plan on having the car too much longer so unfortunately the issue will most likely be passed on to the next buyer. He was extremely friendly and explained all of the work that was done and why it was done. He even explained what it would have cost if he replaced the catalytic converter - $250 less than what the other mechanics would have charged me. I definitely plan on going back for my next inspection (and if I'm unfortunate enough to need work before then).
