I have eaten here several times and have been pleased every time. The service is kind and respectful and the cook has been different at times but the quality of the food has been very good. It is a good option if you don't want a sit down restaurant like the sidetrack which I also enjoy. I would gladly eat here anytime with my wife or alone. Yesterday I had the fried shrimp dinner with Zucchini sticks on the side. My kids are VERY picky and when we saw that this place had chicken tenders on the menu we decided to stop by. The burgers were surprisingly delicious. The meat was very well seasoned and made for a tasty meal. My kids ate all of their chicken, don't know if it's because they were starving (didn't eat since we left Great Basin) or because the chicken was delicious. Nonetheless they ate all of their food. The place was very busy (Memorial Day weekend) but the food didn't take any longer than it would at a busy fast food place back home. The seating was average and the restrooms were clean. The parking lot was large enough to acomódate out travel trailer. Definitely stop by here! read more

It's a better place than it look from the outside. Food is pretty good - huge variety on the menu. The order taker was pleasant; the cook not so much. Order came out with not much speed, but the previous customer apparently was ordering for her entire family. I ordered chicken fingers, sweet & spicy. Not a fan. The fingers were excellent and crispy, and so were the fries. But the sauce was like sweet & sour Chinese. Fine as a option, but not as a replacement for plain ol' Buffalo. The cashier was knowledgeable about the menu and recommended several items to try. The ac must have been out because it was very warm in the restaurant that day. I always stop at JJ's when passing through Caliente. A great place to gas up before heading back out on highway 93 through the middle of the desert. What I love is the gas station has the hostess snacks I love that I am not able to get in Vegas. The raspberry filled hostess powdered donuts and hostess blackberry pies yum! The staff is always friendly. Some stuff seems over priced but they did mention that since they are such a teeny tiny town that they have to pay extra to trucks some stuff in. The food prices in the diner area are not bad at all though and the food tastes good. read more

Stood at counter to order for an extended period and got zero communication from the 2 people working. I'm quite understanding and a simple "I'll right with you" or "it'll be a few minutes to get your order" is no problem at all. The food was pretty darn good, and the hamburgers were outstanding. I found a little bit odd that they're charging a dollar for a supposed increase in beef prices, when the cost of beef has been steadily driving down since March. Either way, the food was good, service was fantastic, and the red headed waitress and order taker was incredibly friendly. Very large menu and reasonably priced. Hot food - made after you order it! The chicken strips were delicious. Ranch was very good & the fry sauce (for your fries) was excellent. The fry bread which was similar to Indian fry bread and the honey butter was great. They also have sweet potato fries. The only thing I would say is that the hot fudge sundae was not really hot fudge more of a hot milk chocolate but other than that very nice place to eat if you're in Caliente. read more

The best steak sandwich (lunch style) I've ever had. My buddy had the melt and said it's top 3 of his life. Food is GREAT for this mom&pop establishment. The cashier/server was knowledgeable and friendly. The price was low and food was worth every penny. My family and I drove through twice to and from Zion. The first time it was the end of the night. My husband got the sweet and spicy chicken tenders. The service was friendly and the meal was amazing. I was so excited to come back on our way home. The food was still great but the service was super irritating. We ordered 6 meals, 2 wanted juice and the rest just wanted water. Water cups were $.50 which is whatever but when we ended up needing another water cup it went up to $.99. Irritating but still whatever. Then after then meal we needed a box. My son went to the counter and was given a brown bag to put chicken in. I went to the counter and was completely ignored and sneered at because he "already told my son, we couldn't have a togo box" I stood at the counter being ignored for about 2 min before he came over and rudely asked what I needed. I said we have a 4 hour drive and could I have a box rather than a brown bag. Mind you there is a huge stack of Togo boxes on the counter behind the younger guy helping me. He rolled his eyes and said I could have one for a $1, That they are expensive. I would rather they raise every meal on the menu by $.50 or whatever needed to cover those types of costs and then just be nice when you come in. Service like that drives me insane. J & J's does the job right! If you're in the middle of fucking nowhere (aka Caliente, NV) and you want a little tide-me-over to dinner time, stop in at J & J's! We had a couple of hot dogs, some fries and an ice tea for $4.68. Everything was cooked to order, and the hot dogs had a nice little char from the grill, as did the bun. Other items on the menu include curly fries, onion rings, grilled cheese, burgers, shrimp basket, Philly cheese steaks, ice cream cones and shakes. If you are in any kind of hurry do not stop here There was a family of 4 when we entered and they had already ordered we ordered 2 hamburgers at 6:11 pm at 7:14 we finally received our food Lets talk about the food the hamburger tasted like something out of the freezer no flavor the fries were at least hot but cooked in old grease that wasn't hot enough. This use to be a nice little hamburger joint it has really gone down hill. I really would recommend not eating here Not once did anyone say they were sorry for the wait. This place is literally your only option when driving through Caliente unless you want to chance your stomach on the shriveled hot dogs at the Sinclair next door. The Hubby and I were on the way back from Great Basin and were so hungry we could not wait out the next two hours until we made it back to Vegas. We decided to stop here to help hold us over. I ordered the chicken finger basket that came with 3 fingers, fries, cole slaw, and fry bread. Hubby had a large cheeseburger and said that it tasted like a better version of a Big Mac. Given the location of this no-frills place I wasn't expecting the food to blow my socks off but it did the job. Portions were a great size and the chicken tenders were nice, big, and juicy. I'm a local in lincoln county. Love this restaurant. This most recent time I went, changed everything. The younger male cook was horrible and I will never go back in when he's working. Fried food heaven! The menu is astounding! Sides like fried mushrooms, fried zucchini, onion rings, Munchers (cheese tots but even better), and more. Your favorite burgers and grilled sandwiches along with everything else you would expect. Order a basket and get a scone with it (in these parts a scone is fry bread) or be sure to order yourself a scone on the side. Amazing shakes and dip top cones. Ice cream orders can take a while if they are busy since the cashier fulfills those orders. Be patient - it's worth it. Everything is cooked fresh so there will be a little wait. The grease here always taste old and dirty so I try to avoid anything that's fried. With that being said we don't eat here much. We come out this way often and try to avoid eating in Caliente all together. There's not a lot of selection and what's there is not that good. We save our appetite for ash springs shell gas station! We always stop and get the jalapeño corn dogs and bean and cheese burrito both deep friend in ash springs finest oil! That's one place we have Never gotten tired from over the years. read more
