We recently purchased a house in Galena that had a leaky basement and per the recommendation of our real-estate agent she recommended J&J do the repair in the basement to correct the issue (non-functional drain tile). Sid was our contact and directly supervised the work. He gave an accurate ballpark quote and was very thorough in explaining the issues and kept us up to date on the progress of work via text messages, periodic calls, and photos. Unfortunately, the job opened up some major surprises with the drain tile around the foundation as well as rotted floor structure around the chimney chase that was dumping water into the basement due to water infiltration. Sid's crew did an excellent job repairing the rotted structure in the basement that had rotted away. While this was a very expensive repair, however I highly recommend Sid and his guys. They do quality work and get it done quick. They also had good recommendations for other contractors that we need to complete the exterior work related to the structural issues (see pic below). Sid will also work with you (within reason) if you have minor changes to the work being done. We had a separate plumber (per Sid's recommendation) add rough-in plumbing for a future bathroom after J&J broke up sections of the concrete floor to replace the weeping tile. Sid the owner came out to look at base as requested for potential buyer of my house that was built in 1800s and gave me a qu for 24,000 to basically rebuild my basement cause it was "structurally unsafe " according to him. So I had a structural engineer who's above him came out and said absolutely not your basement is fine. So glad I didnt fall for spending 24,000 for nothin. read more

I called J & J Foundation Repair on Friday afternoon to see if someone could look at a potential foundation issue I discovered. Sid returned my call two days later, on a Sunday no less. He came and inspected the basement that day, both inside and out and assured us that the issue was just cosmetic and there was no need for any repairs. Warning! Do not use J&J Foundation Repair! Please read before calling them! While I was in contract to purchase my home my realtor had Sid come out to the home to inspect 2 cracks in the foundation as well as quote a cost to repair. Obviously his professional opinion weighed heavily on our decision to move forward with the purchase as well as how much to request in remedies from the seller. He quoted in writing $1,600. We moved forward with buying the home. We are now moved in and ready to proceed with said repair. Surprise! It's actually a pretty significant structural issue. Sid couldn't even give us a suggested repair, let alone a revised price, and has since gone MIA. Upon meeting with several other companies we are receiving quotes of up to $22,000! They all have similar repair suggestions and similar costs so seems everyone is on same page other than Sid. When confronted he said to me "the crack got much worse" (which is impossible over this short of a period per several other experts), but told my realtor he "just missed the larger of the cracks" (even tho he was provided a copy of the home inspection calling out both cracks and he was asked to address the issues specific to those). Two different stories. At the end of the day - his negligence, incompetence, and ignorance cost us $20,000 we were not expecting to spend. Months after moving into our home and all of the expenses associated with that and right around Christmas. I want to do everything I can to prevent something like this from happening to anyone else. Do your due diligence. Get second opinions. Stick with major companies. DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY! read more

Jim Grove is a godsend. Our new house had 3 foundation issues, that other contractors wanted $7000 and up and none of them agreed to fix all 3 problems....I was probably looking at $10k or more. One jackass even signed up and then never showed up. Then I found Jim...he immediately pointed that the solution I was asking him to put in would not work [none of the other contractors said that so far]. And I thought - here we go, now he will tell me the real solution will cost $20k...but he comes up with a better solution for only $2800. I couldnt believe my ears. He was done in 3 days, and that is how long he said it would take. When I went in to inspect the work, I see that he had put in 3 footers and pillars...his quote was only for 2. He said that 2 would be fine, but he added a third just to be real sure. I asked him how much more, and he said I didnt owe him anything...I insisted to pay him more and he flat refused to accept any more money. Disclaimer - since then Jim is what I consider a friend, and we do keep in touch from time to time. He even came by with his wife when we had a BBQ one summer. Had noticed evidence of potential foundation issues. Called over the weekend and Sid called me back first thing Monday morning. He came out a day later, looked at every ounce of evidence I thought I had for foundation problems and then showed me why what I was looking at was not foundational but rather, a result of the extreme snow load and temperature fluctuations from this past winter. It would have been very easy for him to slap me with a large bill for repairs since I was already convinced we had a problem. Instead he educated me, gave me major peace of mind, and what's more, when I asked how much the inspection would be, he said there was no charge. Should we ever have an issue, I'll definitely give J&J and Sid a call again. He was knowledgeable, helpful, and incredibly friendly. From what I hear from neighbors, their work is fairly priced as well. I absolutely recommend J&J foundation repair if you have, or suspect you have, foundation problems. read more

I bought a house that had some foundation cracks fixed by J&J. The repairs were done just prior to my inspection - only a couple weeks prior. They did NOT do any tuck-point. Instead, they threw some quick dry compound on the cracks and didn't even smooth them out or clean it up. When I closed on the house, there were globs of compound all over the foundation in large chunks. Additionally, there was all kinds of compound in the landscaping and all around where they "fixed". It was the fastest looking attempt at a repair I have ever seen with such minimal effort. I called and left a message about the unhappiness and sent pictures of the work they did, even though I didn't pay for the service. I offered to pay them MORE money to come out and make it look nicer. I have the initial receipt, because the realtor had obtained all costs associated with any repairs prior to closing. What J & J charged for what they did was horribly wrong. I feel bad for the previous owners and even contemplated looking them up to tell them how bad I felt. When a representative of the company came out to look over my complaints, he assured me he would follow up with me to "see what they could do". Also, I was told while the gentleman was at my property that "we need to wait until there's other jobs in the area for things like this because it's such a small/quick job". The overall effort this company showed and the price they charged was, in my opinion only, a shame. Consider the fact that nothing was ever done, nor did the company try to help at all or recommend anything for me to do, the job completely needs re-done because it's actually kind of embarrassing to look at. read more

As part of our home selling process, my wife and I had multiple foundation repair companies come and assess the foundation of our home. Andy came out (on Mother's Day of all days) and I can't say enough fantastic things about him. There was no nonsense / funny business or scare tactics, just honesty. He spent time explaining the process of how water seeps down to the footer drain, what can cause moisture in a basement (from foundation issues to the fact that cinder block is porous), and what happens to the water once it hits the footer. His inspection was extremely thorough and at the end explained why in our home, there was nothing that needed done. As anyone who has ever owned a home knows, honestly in the construction industry isn't a foregone conclusion. Andy and company are genuine, honest, great people that look out for the customer. We just got our down spouts cleaned today and there is a section of the drain line to the street that was impacted by a tree and needs replaced. Had J&J come out and look at some cracks and blocks leaning in my basement. Got an estimate for around 2400 bucks to have two walls reinforced with 7 I-beams. They did a great job and I'm happy with the finished work. read more
