On the day before dropping my daughter off at FSU, her air conditioning wasn't blowing cold air. It's a 2008 Honda Accord. Since I couldn't get an appointment at my local garage in Jax, I tried to fix it myself with one of the Freon Recharge kits and I apparently accidentally put too much even though it registered green on the gauge, which caused the whole system to stop working I was at My local JAX garage at 7:30 am when they opened to see if they could put gauges on it to try to get the freon levels correct. They took it to the back and the tech said the system would potentially need a full overhaul drain and refill and they wouldn't be willing to do that unless I was prepared that that could cause me to need m an entire new AC system at over $2,000 AND they potentially needed to keep the car for few days. They wouldn't touch it unless I was prepared for the worst. We had to leave to go to Tallahassee, so I decided to find a shop in town to take the car to. I found DT's off Yelp and called and Elon was kind enough to say he would take a look at the system and evaluate it. It was a simple fix of just adjusting down the Freon to the proper levels and he and his team did it and gave the car a through inspection with a simple request for me to just get my future work on both my kids cars done at his place! Following the brake job they did on my wife's car, the brakes continued making a noise, so I took it elsewhere. That's I learned Downtown Automotive Repair failed to torque the bolts holding my brake caliper in place. So one bolt vibrated out while driving 2 weeks after they "repaired it" and the other bolt was begining to unthread itself (hence why the noise started). In my case they botched a very simple/ straight forward repair. They might do good for simple stuff like tires, but I wouldn't trust them with any major repair, and definately not for something as important as brakes. They are nice people though, so I think their heart is in the right place. I just think they are essentually a tire shop that occasionally does "other stuff." Which struck me as odd because their was a race trailer/ hot rod parked out back of their shop. So somebody there knows how to wrench (owner?), but definately not their shop employees . . . hopefully they can turn things around, because they seem like nice people, and I prefer supporting local businesses.

The most detailed breakdown of car needs and repairs is sent via email along with a call where they go over all items needing repair. Since my daughter and I both have old cars, the breakdown was specific to things vitally needing repair all the way down to items that should be replaced or repaired based on regular upkeep recommendations (e.g., the cabin air filter). After getting the first estimate for my daughter's car, my mobile repair man checked the list out and said it is fair, so I went ahead with the repairs. While the repairs weren't cheap, they were fair in today's market and done quickly. I do recommend this shop for auto repair needs, even on cars that are 19 to 20 years old.
