I came in for an acrylic refill manicure which costs about $17 bucks at my normal salon in West Chester. I was charged $35 dollars at this salon. Although I enjoyed being able to be seen right away without an appointment the experience was pretty boring. The dude spoke Chinese to his coworkers and didn't talk to me much. As well, when I looked at the nail job in the light - it looked like when I did my nails in high school- streaky and uneven color. The wait here can be 1.5 hours or more. If you choose to wait, you better get the right technician. Most of them are sloppy and lazy. The owners have no motivation to improve this fact since they are one of the only nail salons in Downingtown. They do a good job IF they have time. Everything else is sloppy seconds. Note, friendliest will not be on the menu. They make you feel like they are doing YOU the customer a favor by doing your nails. And they are expensive, $35-$40 for gel or SNS. Also beware of bait and switch. They are well known for suggesting something you didn't ask for, for you only to discover it's the most expensive service they offer. been going here for almost 4 years and loved it at first, but gone so down hill since. just got home from a pedi, the girl was very rough and put too many coats of paint on...sat under the dryer for 20 minutes and STILL wet, a nail is already messed up and will definitely be going back to get fixed, hopefully will fix free but who knows. used to love getting my acrylics done here but just became so messy and charge $5 just to file them into a different shape? read more

As I sit here on a not incredibly busy day, I can't help but complain. The wait here is incredibly long, and they rarely apologize. A few customers even made appointments and they still had to wait, which is ridiculous. I've been going here for years now, and this may be the last. Do not go to this establishment unless you want to wait over an hour, while others without reservations go in front of you. Management did not apologize for error. Management attitude is despicable. Staff technicians are friendly and capable. However, it does not justify total disrespect for a customers time. read more

i went to get acrylics and they were rushing and the finished product was sloppy. they asked what color i would like and i told them white, they proceeded to put gel on the acrylics, i thought this was normal so i didn't say anything. i went to checkout and they charged me for gel on acrylics when i was not asked if i wanted gel or normal polish. read more

I left this salon after several years of good service. They increased their prices without informing me, they wanted to charge for filing down my nails which is part of a manicure and they hurt my hands by squeezing my fingers too tightly, and made no apology for it. They said "that's what we have to do" I would not recommend this salon. I had been a loyal customer for years and a generous tipper., too. Avoid this salon. My nails look terrible. I have bubbles in the polish, the nails are not the same length. The tech who did my nails rushed to finish my nails as they received new customer walking in. I felt they are a bit rude and made sure they asked for a tip when she was done. I took one look at my nails a refused to leave the tip. I tried a lot of places before I tried here. Great staff until recently. They hired some man to manage. He works at the front desk. He is rude and has quite a bit of attitude. He could definitely make me go elsewhere because no matter who does my nails I still have to deal with him. Poor addition to the staff! read more

I am greatly disappointed with the service (or lack thereof ) that I rec'd today at this nail salon. After reading the rave review from 6/2012 , I called in and asked if I could make an appt at 4:00pm this afternoon. (called at 11:30am this morning). I was assured that I could walk in at 4 and they would take me for a spa pedicure. I arrived 3 mins early, signed in, after a full waiting area of women had walked in and signed in. I went up to the receptionist and asked if I would still be seen at 4 even though there were so many women before me. She assured me that I would, and that it wasn't 4 yet. I waited a full 20 mins as I watched other women be taken for pedicures before me! I went up to the desk, told them I couldn't wait any longer, and that I couldn't believe that gave me an appt, when they couldn't keep it.. a disgrace.. read more

Discriminatory service! I went for a mani/pedi in the am when it was not busy and still received the worst customer service ever. First, the pedicure was rushed and sloppy. The nail tech cut my cuticles too low and it hurt! 2 other customers came in and were seated in the chairs right next to me, and I noticed the staff were much more attentive to them. The man who works there but doesn't do nails (owner, manager maybe? Idk) is beyond rude. He offered the 2 ladies mimosas and checked in on them to see if they were enjoying their experience. I commented on not being offered a drink, but he didn't seem to care. After my pedi, I was directed to the dryers where all the staff seemed to forget about me. The dryer tabletop was covered in gel nail color samples so staff and the manager were constantly shuffling them around me each time a client came in for a gel mani. It was the most annoying shit ever! As big as the salon is, you would think they could find a better place for these things. I finally made it to the nail bar for a mediocre manicure at best. I noticed a few more pedi clients enjoying complimentary mimosas and/or water. When my nails dried, I ran out the salon. The staff was rude, the mani/pedi was unremarkable, and I was in the salon for 2 hours and wasn't even offered a bottle of water! This place deserves Zero stars! I will not be returning. The rudest and unfriendliest staff I've ever come across!!! My first visit to J&L nails, the nail tech grunted and conversed in his native language the entire time during the service as if he was angry or annoyed to have to do my nails. Mistakenly and regrettably, I went to this establishment once again ( I do find their prices reasonable and the location of the nail salon is within five minutes of my home) but again, I was utterly and undenialably disappointed and quite frankly, insulted! I've never felt so UNWELCOMED as a paying customer in a business! No one even says hello when you walk thru the doors. The next nail technician rushed through my service so fast that it was as if I blinked and my nails were done AND done poorly!! I felt such negative energy from her as if I was a burden!! She didn't look at me once during the service. When I asked her opinion about whether I needed to get a refill or just a gel polish change, her answer was "I don't know, what you want!" Simply Rude! The refill and polish job could have been done better by my 3 year old son! When I asked that my nails be fixed because I was not pleased, she said, " I fix next time you come in!" I'm sorry but I'd like my nails repaired today because I'm paying for them to be done properly. Any intelligent professional would attempt to please the customer but she could care less if I was happy. I walked out that salon with the intention to NEVER return and to spread the word so that the next person doesn't feel the SEVERE displeasure that I did as a customer and a human being. My nails were so bad, I had to go immediately to another nail salon to repair her work. Please don't waste your time or your money on an establishment that doesn't value its customers!!
