The technician thought this was acceptable for a deadbolt install (see photo). Almost $300 for a deadbolt install on a wooden door. Deadbolt didn't line up with the knob so it was one or the other. Damaged the casing and the trim. Once I heard the final invoice I was surprised to see it so expensive. Apparently they record all phone conversations and did indeed rattle off 3 separate numbers over the course of a 10 minute diatribe which totaled almost $300. A "your final bill will be X" is more than sufficient so a customer can determine if they want to pay that. I would imagine this tactic is used fairly often to run up the tab. Super shoddy work and the price was ridiculous. read more

So the business with J&L Pacific Lock started out great. Ultimately, the work I needed was done. However, trouble started when I went back the next day to pick up my car. First, the tech was on the phone with his "boss" and I stood waiting for about 15 minutes while they talked on speaker phone. That conversation, without a doubt, could have been put "on hold" to take care of a paying customer. But no, I was left to wait. IMO, they have little care to value a paying customer's time. Then the tech couldn't remember what he quoted me for the work. He then asked me if I remembered. It's not my job to remind you what you said the work would cost. Have you heard of writing it down? He then arbitrarily says an amount and asks me if it's right. I was floored. How does a company do business like this? I agreed to what he now quoted me (because it was less than what I was told before) and paid the new and lower quote to get out of there. Then I drive away and find that the "SECURITY" light is staying on in my car which is hadn't been ever before. So now I have to drive back. I walk in and ask him why the light is on. "Oh... yeah, those cars will show that light for a couple days. Sorry I didn't say that before." Again, a waste of my time because he just didn't care to first, put his call on hold and second, give me all the information the first time. Pay attention to your customers and try harder. I won't be telling people to use J&L Pacific Lock & Key and I won't ever go back, that's for sure. read more

We needed an emergency re-key of our business locks. I called J & L Lock and they were able to come out same day. I had a quote from another locksmith ($151.00) for the 4 doors that needed to be re-keyed, but they were not able to meet our timeline. The locksmith from J & L was at our business 30 minutes for the job. Imagine my surprise when I received an invoice for $479.00! While I expected to be charged for an immediate service call (but wasn't charged for that), I did not expect to be charged $75 per lock when the LOCAL locksmith charged $13 per lock. When I spoke with them about the discrepancy between their charges and the local locksmith, and the fact that $479.00 was excessive for 30 minutes, I was told they would not change the invoice. Dispatch was nice and great service too, he was happy to help and get a technician as soon as possible within 25min I had a call and an appointment. While I am giving them only 1 star, I want to make this perfectly clear that Alex, the installation tech who finally arrived, was AWESOME. It's just a shame the office can't get their act together. I was given a window from 8-10 a.m. Tech calls to tell me he'll be there around 11; does not know why I was given that window as he has a scheduled appt already. Tech calls again to tell me the service call he had been on was taking longer than expected that the office did not allot enough time for the job at hand. I could not wait that long and rescheduled for the following day for 11:30 a.m. At 2:30 my husband calls; apparently we were not on the schedule. Grrr To add to our frustration, I was very specific when calling to get a quote as to what type of doors I had (one keyless entry with key lock). I was quoted one rate and then later billed for a higher amount. Again, Alex was awesome. Thanks for making the installation nightmare bearable! read more

Drove back from out of state only to realize I didn't have my house key. It was a very HOT day, and I was exhausted, to say the least! Called around for locksmith no one answered or had a wait time over 3 hrs! Called J&L who arrived 30 minutes and was unable to get into front door and garage due to logistics of hardware i.e I didn't want them to drill out lock since I had no way of locking door at night. The young man thought outside of the box and found another way in saving my day! Grateful, thank you! I looked up some local mobile locksmiths that could come to mt angel. J&l salem branch came up so I gave them a try. They took my info and said someone would contact me in 5 minutes. Tristan was my service provider. He said he would be there in 45 minutes. He was on time and got to work. He told me the price and went to work. It took a little longer than he expected because it just wasn't matching up right away. But he kept on until it was completed. So this business was convenient, reasonable, friendly, and complete. My boss calls back to give them the business and was told no, we aint doing that for you.... made me look like an idiot! They then called the person who was supposed to come and he said he'd be there in 10 minutes (which meant 20 minutes) we finally got service. I lost the key fob for my car and I did not have a spare. The dealer told me that 2 fobs were necessary for them to program the device, essentially meaning that I would have to purchase 2 fobs. A further complicating factor with the dealer was that the fobs would have to be backordered and would take about 5 weeks to arrive, including 5 days delivery time. I then googled locksmiths in Medford, Oregon and, until I contacted J&L Pacific Lock & Key, they all referred me back to the dealer as they did not have the equipment to program the fob. When I called J&L they told me that they would order the fob that afternoon ( Thursday) and would have it to install the next day. As promised, J&L's locksmith (Kobie) and truck came to my house and the job was successfully completed in less than 24 hours. I purchased one fob and the total cost was substantially less than the dealer quoted. read more

Extremely unorganized company from the get go. Paid the invoice after the service was completed and had an absolute nightmare dealing with their 'accounting department' to prove payment was sent. 1 month after service, get another call attempting to collect payment - again had to send proof that it was already paid. What a predicament! On a Thursday, just before taking off on a weekend trip the lock on our door froze. Worse yet, it froze with the door open! After several tries to free up the lock, we called J& R Pacific. They got a locksmith to us within an hour, remarkable because our home is 10 miles from Medford. Great service and the lock was replaced in less than 30 minutes. Locksmith was professional and friendly, explained what happened and put a faceplate on the door that had been missing. I had lost my key fob while at the river and one evening and I was supposed to leave town the next day for very important appointment. I was super stressed cause I called the dealership and they said it would be $600-700 and I would need to wait for them to get the fob. I called J&L and have them my info,, within minutes Jevon called me back and let me know that he had the fob I needed. I had the tow truck driver take my car there instead of dealership and Jevon had my car all taken care of before I even got there. Best part is, I paid less then half what the dealership wanted!!!! Extremely disappointed and upset with the service I received. The tech was hell bent on proving he could retrieve my keys from the seat and pull them thru the gap he created in the door. I tried to tell him they would not fit. He pulled until he broke my key fob, setting of my alarm, and losing the fob. I finally found it behind the plastic covering the door post. The plastic had to be removed all the way to the floor to retrieve it. I don't know why he couldn't simply pull the door handle and open the door? Further more, he wanted to charge me for a new key fob and charged full price for breaking and losing the one I had. I would not recommend using them. ZERO stars should be an option. read more

I was cheated! J & L Pacific Lock & Key was a real disappointment and loss of money for me. My VW's ignition lock was broken so I called their mobile service. They came and installed a new key mechanism but it was the incorrect one and did not work - I was charged over $300. I had to have my car towed to my mechanic who had to order one, which took over 4 weeks. I asked J & L if I could return the mechanism once my mechanic took it out and I had a car to return the part (30 miles away). Joe at J & L said no problem, my credit would be $140. He never said that there was a time limit on the return and I told him it would take me a while to get the part back. Finally I was able to drive my car again and returned the mechanism to J & L. They said the credit would come from the supplier. It has been over 2 months and after several calls to them - they said I returned it too late as there was a expiration date for returning the part for credit. They never informed me of this expiration date in the beginning. They have never called me to let me know there would be no credit back. read more
