BUYER BEWARE!!! Update: This is the second time I am posting this review. I was threatened with legal action regarding the first review and threatened to with hold my refund until the review was taken down. I took down the review and the refund was put through on my credit card along with a receipt for the transaction.....THE MERCHANT CANCELLED THE REFUND PRIOR TO IT POSTING TO MY ACCOUNT. I had a city sewer line back up into my basement on 12/15/23 in Lansing, MI. Roto rooter came out and provided services including anti-microbial spraying and MINIMAL content removal as the ~200 sq. ft. basement was unfinished with zero standing water left once the city flushed the lines. I subsequently discovered that market rates predicted a charge of around $894 while I was charged $2800. Since the incident happened on December 15th of 2023, I have tried repeatedly and on many, many occasions to get accurate and honest information regarding the billing of the cleanup. I was told that there were "clerical errors" in the billing and that the employee who overcharged me is "no longer with the company" and after much back and forth was offered a refund of $1400 - half of what I was charged, still forcing me to pay WELL ABOVE average market rates for this type of clean up. Connie Kasiorek who purports herself to be the manager, verbally agreed to this refund on a recorded line and continues to say that the money will be returned to me but continually fails to actually refund the funds. This is the most dishonest, unsavory company I have ever had dealings with. I WOULD NEVER DO ANY BUSINESS WITH THEM. I WOULD CALL LITERALLY ANYONE ELSE. read more

I didn't want to give any stars to this company. My main line was clogged. Roto -Rooter sent a plumber out. The guy only looked in the bathroom then quoted me $350-780 depending on if he "breaks through" it'd be on the high end of the quote. I called Michigan Plumbing-they inspected inside AND outside before quoting me anything. Michigan Plumbing unclogged my clean out (outside) for $208 with no issues and was done within 30 minutes. The guy assured me of a 90 day warranty and to call immediately if I had any issues. He understand that I didn't have $700 to fix it and he actually gave me a break. Called two times over a 24-hour period for our kitchen sink was backing up water into our basement. The representative kept saying they were busy but that we were on their list. I needed a plumbing inspection on a rental property that I am buying. I scheduled the inspection with Roto-Rooter on a Wednesday and explained that I needed a report back by Friday so that I could sign off on my contingencies. I heard nothing on Thursday, so called on Friday. Melissa said that they couldn't get me the report because the technician was off today. I asked her if she thought this was good business and she replied "well we didn't charge you." I'm sure there are better plumbing companies in Lansing. These guys are clowns. This is the 3rd time I've used Roto Rooter- first was an emergency situation, then a follow-up. This last time was for a Root-Ex treatment. Scheduling was easy- did it online and had a follow-up call within 15 minutes. Technician was timely, called before arrival, respectful of my home and very pleasant. Bonus points for him being nice to the dog, too. Only issue I had was that the technician told me I would have to wait 8-10 hours to use my water in the house after the Root-Ex application. Seeing that I never used Root-Ex prior to this, I didn't know about the wait time. It would have been nice for the scheduling assistant to let me know of the inability of using water after the application so I could have prepared better (i.e. showered the night before). Besides that, I definitely recommend Roto Rooter to others who are in need of quick plumbing services! read more

Plumer came out do to a toy being flushed down the toilet. Gave me a quote for 660 to snake the drain, once he pulled the toilet the toy was right at the top of flange so there was no need to snake the darin. He then proceeded to cause damage to the flange so he could still charge me the 660.00. I was charged 300.00 for a replacement toilet flange and 360.00 for the toilet being removed and put back. But the toilet flange was not replaced and he did mot put a wax ring on. Which caused the toilet to flood my bathroom and basement. I called several times with no answer so I had to call a different plumbing service out. I also have to replace my whole bathroom floor. I owner called me after I sent an email to the scheduling department. He was supposed to sent a full refund but I never received it. read more

Excellent service! We had a very bad clog due to some tree roots creeping their way into the pipes. John and his crew were able to clean out the roots and install a clean-out valve to help mitigate the issue going further. The house that I currently live in was purchased without a clean out valve and was needed to remove the clog due to the roots. It is an expensive item (a couple grand) to install but I am confident you will get best price from Roto-Rooter if your home is in need of one and they will get the job done! read more

Our appointment was for Tuesday evening. At around 5pm, when nobody showed up, we called to see what time they would arrive. "Sorry, someone should have called you. We need to reschedule for tomorrow." Tomorrow (Wednesday) came and yet again, no one showed up. We call them and they needed to reschedule for Thursday. They agreed on a time around 9:30am. When they didn't show, I called and they said someone will be there in an hour. Did not show again. Called them back, "they will be there no later than noon." At noon, called again and they stated that someone would be by today. They need to be shut down. read more

A quote for $3000 for a job that on average costs $700 and a rude "What do you want me to do?" over the phone when I called and my toilets were overflowing and needed help. I would not recommend. I'll be researching who I can call in case of a plumbing emergency so I don't get royally ripped off again. Melissa called ahead of my appointment time to confirm & Dave arrived right on time. He suggested a camera inspection be done to determine whether the sewer line needed cleanout. He completed the inspection of about 75 feet of sewer line all the way to the city sewer connection in less than 30 minutes. Luckily for me, my line is free of obstructions. Dave, with his skill & experience in this procedure, was able to break up a small clog with the camera during the process. Roto Rooter's entire visit took less than an hour. I received a 25% discount on the charge of $288 (paid $216). I was dismayed at this cost, since I had talked to several plumbers prior to having this done today. The going price for cleanout in my area is $175 (not including camera inspection). In Dave's professional opinion, my line did not need cleaning out. I found Dave to be pleasant, professional, excellent at his job & honest about this whole process. I hope that paying more for a camera inspection showing the line is in good shape & doesn't need a cleanout is better than paying less for a cleanout whether you need it or not. And this is ONLY because a cleanout, especially if done by an unskilled plumber, can damage or break the drain tiles, resulting in having to have a completely new sewer line installed - big expense! This is my feeling about my experience today. I paid more than I wanted to for this procedure, though I have peace of mind that my sewer line is in good shape & will operate properly. Troy & Josh came out and were very nice and fixed our problem. They put a camera down our pipes and we could see what was going on. We used the $50 coupon on Yelp and they took it, no problems. They cleaned up the floor and around the sink. We had them blow the air through the whole system after we tried snaking out the pipes with a 20 foot snake. I recommend those guys. read more

This is the 2nd time I used roto-rooter services after trying to get a garbage disposal estimate. They proceeded to give me a proper disposal and faucet installation as well. I was charged over $1400 dollars at the end of the installation for both things that took less than an hour to install within my household. They failed to mention the cost of the individual sink and garbage disposal on the invoice, as well as CHARGING $700 for labor. I could not believe I paid 2 men over $350 an hour to do absolutely nothing. I'm sure this company is super proud of their shady business practices. I had a scheduled appointment of 3-5pm. After two phone calls to them he showed up at almost 6:00pm which was an hour late. He didn't put on shoe covers or take off his shoes. Just walked through the house with snowy/wet shoes. Made a mess of the bathroom floor. Charged $150.50 to snake the toilet which literally took only 5 minutes. He was nice though and recommend I buy my own toilet auger to save $ in the future. read more

My water heater started leaking late on 12/23 and I called for an emergency service. They told me they would have their local dispatch call me by 8:30-9:00 the next day, if not later that night. Rather than call around for a different service, I trusted them. Big mistake. The next day, 10:00 rolls around and their dispatch still hasn't called. I called them. They didn't even have me on the schedule. And, because I messed around with these fools, what few other emergency plumbing services in town for the holiday weekend booked up.
