I called repair shops around Hercules where I work. Many of them charge $180-$225 just for diagnosis. Singh was responsive and very experienced. He checked the local availability of spark plugs and coil kits that might need replacement before I dropped off my car at his home garage. Singh informed me in a couple of hours that his diagnosis did not produce any error message. He checked all fluid levels and topped up my transmission fluid which was very low. He shared with me pictures of his findings. (I was surprised as I had changed the transmission fluid just 8 months/9K miles ago. Apparently the previous mechanic did not add adequate transmission fluid). He tested drive and confirmed my car does not skipping acceleration or shaking after the stop. I contacted my roadside assistance at 7:22 PM for help with a flat tire. A&L Towing arrived around 7:48 PM. The driver appeared to be very young and arrived wearing a black T-shirt, yellow shorts, and black slides. When I asked if he was planning to change my tire wearing slides, he told me he had been asleep and had just woken up because his father told him to come help me. After retrieving my spare tire and using my lug wrench, he struggled to remove the lug nuts. Instead of using the proper equipment, he repeatedly attempted to force different lug wrenches onto the wheel bolts by striking one wrench with another. I became concerned as I watched him move from wheel to wheel trying different methods. When I asked if he needed assistance, he declined. He then made a FaceTime call to his father, speaking in another language. After the call, he informed me that his father was going to cancel my roadside assistance request. He collected his tools, drove away, then returned just a couple of minutes later saying he needed to take a picture of my wheel so his father could cancel the service request. At that point, I contacted my roadside assistance provider to report that my tire was still flat and that A&L Towing had left without completing the job. Around 10:15 PM, more than two hours later, A&L Towing returned--this time with a young female driver, who advised she was the owner's daughter. She asked if I needed help changing my flat tire. I explained that her brother had already canceled my service request and that another towing company had already been dispatched. She then told me she was there to tow my vehicle, but I declined because I preferred to wait for the replacement service provider. When the second towing company arrived, the driver immediately examined my wheel and told me that my lug bolts had been freshly stripped. He asked whether anyone else had attempted to remove the tire before he arrived. After I explained what had happened, he confirmed that the damage was consistent with the previous driver's unsuccessful attempts to force the tools onto the lug bolts. He also believed the reason the first driver returned to photograph my wheel was to document its condition after the damage had already occurred. This entire experience demonstrated a lack of professionalism, inadequate training, poor communication, and unacceptable workmanship. I experienced an unnecessary delay of more than three hours, my roadside assistance request was canceled without my authorization, and my vehicle was damaged during an unsuccessful repair attempt. If A&L Towing is sending inexperienced drivers to perform roadside assistance, they should be properly trained, supervised, and equipped before being dispatched to customers. Roadside assistance customers deserve competent, professional service--not damaged vehicles and hours of unnecessary inconvenience. Unfortunately, based on my experience, I cannot recommend A&L Towing.

I have never hired a tow company independently, because I've always had AAA. But, when it was time to lay my beloved Saab to rest and take her to the junkyard, AAA would not do it. Time was of the essence, as the City of Oakland had left an orange sticker of death on my car, telling me to move the car in three days or else they would do it for me. I had only found out about the sticker the day before and so I had very little time to scramble and make arrangements. The junkyard would have been happy to tow it for me, but couldn't do so before the deadline. So, I googled around to see if I could find a tow truck company to do it. I called Pitway and someone picked up immediately. He gave me an incredibly reasonable quote, which, happily would be covered by what the junk yard told me they'd give me for the car. Then he told me he could have a tow truck driver to me in 45 minutes. The tow truck driver was there in 30 minutes! My car had a tricky problem making it really difficult to move. It had been hit by an uninsured motorist during a high speed chase by the California Highway Patrol (I kid you not!) and it had been left with damage to the front passenger side wheel. And it was parallel parked in a tight spot. Trying to get that car coaxed onto the flat bed of the tow truck without damaging any other car in the process was an epic battle. I was riveted watching him tug and turn, twist and pull, attach this hook and that cord. We'd share moments of rueful eye contact and every now and again I'd apologize profusely. But the tow truck drive worked absolute magic. He is an expert at his craft. He managed to get that car on the tow truck without further damage to my car, the car in front, himself, or my reputation with my neighbors. All with a smile on his face. He was super patient at the destination as the process at the junk yard was, honestly, fairly nightmarish. It was a 100% amazing experience. I would recommend Pitway wholeheartedly.

On Monday, July 27th, I called to schedule an alignment for my 2004 GMC Yukon Denali. I was given an appointment for Friday, July 31st at 9:00am and was told the alignment would take about an hour. When I dropped my vehicle off Friday morning, I explained to the worker that I had work from 11:30am-5:15pm and that I would not be able to answer my phone while I was working. Since the vehicle was dropped off at 9:00am and I was told the alignment would take about an hour, I expected there would be enough time for the service to be completed before I had to leave for work. I didn't mind if the vehicle stayed there for the day as long as I could pick it up afterward, but I was not expecting it to take all day. I was expecting to pay at drop-off so the keys could be left in the lockbox after hours if needed, but instead I was told I would receive a payment link online. I did not receive a text confirming my vehicle was ready along with the payment link until 2:53pm, well into my work shift. I had already explained that I would not be available to respond. They then called me at 3:40pm and again at 4:05pm, despite knowing I was at work and unable to answer. After reviewing the invoice, I noticed an additional $20.64 charge for adding oil because the vehicle was reportedly 1.5 quarts low. This was never discussed with me and I never gave approval for oil to be added or for that additional charge. The biggest concern came afterward. After leaving work and going to pick it up, I saw someone who worked there (who I later found out was the business owner) he told me that I did not pay the invoice by 4pm (which I was never told to do so- even after explaining my work situation with the business) and that the vehicle was going to be locked in the garage until Monday. I was later able to locate my vehicle parked in a residential neighborhood near the business owners house (which 2 miles from the business) after I was told multiple times that my vehicle was locked safely inside the garage. I was able to contact the owner from a mutual friend and he agreed to meet Saturday August 1st (they are closed for the weekend) for me to pick up my vehicle if I payed the payment link beforehand . Because I wanted my vehicle returned, I paid the invoice, including the unauthorized additional charge, even though I had intended to discuss it first. The following morning, Saturday, August 1st, I went to speak with the owner directly he arrived at the shop driving my vehicle. When I asked where my vehicle had actually been kept and why I was told it was in the garage. The business owner said it was actually parked at their storage lot and when I asked the location he repeatedly told me it was "none of my business." Instead of addressing my concerns, he became defensive and dismissive. I also noticed that the vehicle had been moved while it was in their possession. I reset my trip meter when I get gas and documented the mileage before dropping the vehicle off. When I dropped it off Friday, July 31st, the trip meter showed 47 miles. When I picked it up Saturday, August 1st, it showed 56 miles, which is an additional 9 miles. This raised additional concerns about how my vehicle was being handled while it was not in my possession. My concerns are not just about the alignment itself, they are about communication, transparency, additional charges that were never approved, and how customer vehicles are handled after hours. I have photo and video documentation of our conversation in person and the GPS data supporting my concerns regarding where my vehicle was located and the circumstances surrounding this situation. Additionally, I've filed a report and submitted this information to the Bureau of Automotive Repair. Based on my experience, I would not recommend Burrough & Sons Automotive

I called J&M Towing for a towing service scheduled for the next morning, and I was genuinely impressed from start to finish. The driver arrived right on time and treated my car with exceptional care--you could tell he took pride in doing the job right.
