I purchased a pair of Troy Lee grips that were yellow in the picture. I thought they would match my so's bike. When they arrived they were fluorescent yellow. They do not match my son's bike at all. I tried to return them but I will only receive $16 of the $39 I paid after shipping etc.. I am really bummed with J & R because they are part of the bike world and everyone is aware of "Flo-yellow" and regular yellow in the bike world since it is popular. I wish I could get a full refund. Overall a okay experience but a few things could have been better. I had a custom bike built and had a couple issues along the way. Firstly they did not have a seat post clamp in the correct size, no big deal but they didn't communicate this to me until I eventually called to see the progress of the bike. Second, i realized the headset i ordered was the wrong one. They had the right one in stock for the same price however instead of changing it they told me it was already installed and 'seems fine'. Lastly after receiving the bike i found that the gearing ratio that i picked was hitting the frame and I was disappointed nobody could call me and recommend some changes, Also the frame has a chunk of clear-coat missing on the down-tube (could have been in shipping I'm not sure). read more

100% a scam site. They had a listing for a bike stand that was super cheap. Everything on the listing, all the pictures and descriptions were about a bike stand. They sent me a bag for a bike stand. Purchased many many times and had never had a reason to call. Until.....Ordered a alloy polished GT crankset. Was sent a chromoly one as a substitute to see if I would accept, this was obvious when I called as the alloy polished haven't been in stock in while. Was told they had black by PATRICK. (Who by the way shouldn't be allowed to run a lemonade stand much less a bike shop).). I asked to get the cranks exchanged . Patrick informed me he would NOT do that. I would have to return the incorrect set. Then just buy some more , also the price had been increased in past two weeks by $40 on this same item. Another problem that should have been resolved. This guy was arrogant and unhelpful. It would have been easy for him to exchange the item that they made a error on in first place. I asked for his mgr to resolve this , at which tile I was told that HE runs things there and would have been the one to help me. (Which he never put forth any effort) I mean this guy was useless. Although many orders have been placed in past without problems. This one arrogant employee has made sure that I will no longer do business with them. I also will pass this info to fellow riders and guys on FB bike groups to let them know what a useless pompous ass they have calling the shots there. Just buy from Dan's instead. You can get decent service there AND the item you ordered‍. I also wanna say to J&R that maybe you guys should take heed to some of these reviews and better your customers service. I have ordered with this company several times.... I ordered quite a few years back and had nothing but horrible run-ins with them.... To say that their customer service and competence to place orders that have been placed is an understatement.... First thing they screwed up was a cog it was supposed to be 13 teeth they sent me a 14 it was labeled a 13 even though it was stamped 14 on the side....then I ordered two different pairs of shoes one was a more expensive set one was a cheaper set they sent me two of the cheaper set and said well they were currently out of the other stock I'm sorry I paid more for the other one.... Then I set a pedals time pedals but for whatever reason they had a problem with order or there was two left pedals instead of a right pedal or something like that I don't remember what it was but it took over a month to solve..... This most recent one took the cake I believe that I'm completely done with this company unless for some odd reason they have something I can't get somewhere else but they screwed one order up four different times and then are making me more or less pay for their screw UPS.... They sent me out a wheel that was supposed to be 36 that ended up being 32 that I couldn't use and then accuse me of supposedly doing something weird because they supposedly have never sold that wheel but then I have an instance or a shot where someone said yeah we had one of them it was part of a GT set I don't know how you ended up with that..... But then they sent me a message saying they were going to refund my money but not my shipping like this wasn't my problem this was your problem sending me out the wrong thing so you're going to take my money.... Just shoot me out the correct part that's all I want how hard is that do yourself a favor and don't do business with this company I wish dance comp was still the old dance compet used to be and still sold BMX race parts.... Ordered a new $1000.00 Chase Element pro XL for my son. Day of delivery it was obvious the box had been opened and taped shut on the sides and end and massive damage to one side of the box. During assembly more than 10 scratches were found with one of them deep into the aluminum frame. Sent an email to the sales department a week later called and was told to send an email to the shipping department, and the owners wife will respond. A week after that no response 2 more emails and 3 phone calls have gone unawnsered. My son is heart broken because I wont let him race his new bike until this matter is resolved. If this is how you treat former raceteam members i can only imagine how a regular customer is treated. I placed an order with an Amex gift card for a bike via phone about about 10 days ago. Five days after I ordered, I had no tracking number, so I started following up via chat. Nobody was helping, so I called and they said "yeah, we were about to call you. we placed your order to ship from our trailer that goes to the races, and we don't ship from the trailer, so we need to cancel your order and replace it". That didn't make a lot of sense to me, but whatever. They issued a refund in that process, but then couldn't replace the order because the refunded funds were in limbo since I used a gift card. I followed up some last week to see if my order was replaced, but nobody ever responded even though they said they were looking into it. Friday afternoon the funds were in my account and I could place the order, but guess what....the bike is "out of stock" on their website. FALSE ADVERTISING!!! Tried to purchase a new $1200 bike for my son today and use the 20% coupon. Came up as "not valid for purchase." Coupon came from Pull magazine as a thank you for them being in business for 30 years. I called and spoke with the Manager Bill and was told there are exclusions with the coupon. Apparently this coupon is not good toward ANY complete bike. The coupon clearly says "20% off regular priced item over $100." He also said they wouldn't honor it because they are offering free shipping and you can't use 2 discounts at once. Nowhere online or on the coupon are exclusions listed. Bill called the owner and was told by him the coupon would not be honored. If bikes are excluded from their coupon this should be clearly visible to the buyer. I was really disappointed with the lack of customer service and willingness to make this right. I was able to purchase the bike from Dan's Comp and received free shipping and a discount on the bike. We bought wheels and hubs from them ($700) the wheels came in with the wrong color nipples although it shows the right color on the invoice, also the hubs don't fit out bike so we sent the wheels back (I paid for shipping both ways) they replaced the nipples but rather than get the right hubs they sent adapters to use. After waiting on the wheels and adapters to return to me I go to install the wheels tamd the adapters do not fit the wheels either. Long story short I ordered them in mid June, it's now mid July 10 days from worlds and I still do not have the $700 set of wheels on my bike due to the ignorance of J and R Cycles. Very disappointing company to order from, I've already began expressing the horrible customer service received at all California tracks such as Bellflower, Perris, Yucaipa, Hesperia, and all of my family members from teams in Arizona as well, but told everyone I would get back to them on the outcome whether it good or bad! I received one of the rudest emails from the supposive customer service team(eeek), and now a call too stating basically they would provide a discount on another set! I have never written a bad review but after a month of ongoing deliberation with J&R bicycles and UPS for a package that I have yet to receive and now was told they are not going to refund or reship the item either... After talking to UPS they didn't understand why J&R bicycles wouldn't reship a package to a customer who didn't receive the item, let alone treat the customer so disrespectfully considering I have never opened a case ever before and have never had any issues with UPS prior to this supposive order I never received! I spoke to Kirk (he was polite) and he had UPS open another case on March 6th, so I called yesterday to see what's going on and received a call from Diana or Diane (who's his wife) today at 9:48 PM with no answers except I'm still out $211 and change for a item i have yet to receive.... I ordered a helmet online from these guys. The process from checkout to the day it was delivered was satisfactory. The problems began when I opened the package to find a severely undersized helmet. I selected an XL, but the helmet's box and tags indicated a medium. Upon further inspection, I noticed hand-written check marks on the "XL" labels along with the original factory medium sizes crossed off. I'm not sure why they did that, but I figured that it was a simple mix-up and that they had sent me the wrong size. Before sending the helmet back, I decided to call the manufacturer of the helmet (t.h.e. Industries) directly. I got through to a product manager very quickly and he explained that the model that I had ordered was being discontinued due to its undersized shell- this explains the "sale" that J&R had going on for this helmet when I ordered it. At this point I just wanted to send it back and exchange it for another brand. The problem was, J&R makes you pay for the shipping back to them whether it's a return or exchange. I didn't really feel like paying another $15 to send back their wrongly-sized product. It'd be one thing if i mistakenly ordered the wrong size; i would gladly eat up that extra shipping charge. But this helmet was so severely undersized. I've been in the cycling industry for most of my life and i'm confident that i know how a helmet should fit according to its labeled size. So when i call J&R and explain the problem, they tell me that only Kirk, the owner, can address the problem and issue a call tag for the return. The first employee I spoke to indicated that the owner was out of town, but assured me that she would have him reach out to me within a day or two. Two days pass and I talk to another employee. That guys tells me the owner is still out of town, but would get back to me when he gets back. Six total days pass, and finally another employee tells me that Kirk is finally back but is on the other line, too busy to talk and will call me back asap. I didn't hear back from them on day six. Day 7- finally get him on the line. At this point i could care less about paying the shipping but I figured i'd see what he thinks about it. Kirk was clueless about the helmet being undersized as well as the fact that it was being discontinued. I complained about their policy and the fact that it took a WEEK for me to talk to him, only to hear him lie to me saying that this was his first day back!!! He then refused to see my circumstance as an exception, so I gave up, paid the shipping, and sent it back. A few days later I ordered a Troy Lee Designs helmet from Jenson USA. Shipping was free, package came on time, and the helmet was sized correctly just like every other helmet i've owned. Another WEEK passed after I got my confirmation email from UPS that my return was delivered to J&R's warehouse. I received no confirmation from J&R, and there was no refund. I understand that refunds can take a while, but at least send me some indication that your warehouse received the return!!! I was reluctant to email about what the hold up was and they told me that they had another nonesense policy of only checking/ processing returns 1-2 times per week. Really? Nice policy to let a $200 piece of merchandise, along with whatever else just sit on your floor unaccounted for for multiple days. read more

I wanted to purchase a bike and surprise my 11 year old for his birthday for $700. In the beginning when I tried to place the order, the website prompted me to simply "register" before I can view my tracking info and proof of purchase. I think it was their website glitch because when after I signed up/in which took me under 5 minutes, the website welcomed me (like amazon or ebay) but there was no confirmation. I waited 2 days and there was no email confirmation. I called on the 3rd day and Justin answered. "Something happened during your transaction, I think you forgot to hit the backspace or something, but yeah you should be getting you order within a week along with an email confirmation." said Justin. HE TOLD ME THAT THE MONEY WAS ALREADY TAKEN OUT THE ACCOUNT. I was sort of relieved someone answered, and I told him how excited I was that it was the last model because the website immediately said that the bike was Out Of Stock. I waited another 2 days and still no email confirmation for my purchase. Usually, amazon and ebay would give you an order tracking number, or something like a proof of purchase. Or a "thank you for your purchase" notice. It's not that I care if they send a thank you but I"d like to know where the money is especially since there is much fraud all around. Anyone would feel that sort of way, about where their money is and receiving a receipt. Four days pass and I finally got through and the Owners wife, Delaney, answers the call. Professional sounding, she brought up the fact that it was a floor model. Site did not say that I was purchasing a floor model. She did not ask how I felt about it being a floor model, other than trying to reassure that the bike is in mint condition. The owners wife responded by simply asking if I would like a refund right away or not. I chose to proceed with my order. We reviewed the shipping address and I noticed the home address was right but instead of NJ, it was NY. "We have a reputation that we are trying to keep" quoted the owners wife. Delaney said she would change it and that was it. That night I had a conversation with my wife regarding my feelings. "Long as the bike isn't assembled, you can return it" said Justin/Delaney. Delaney said that I would be receiving an email, midnight, or early morning. Fine, as long as i receive my confirmation. Woke up this morning, no confirmation. I had my wife call the number again, day 5, while I went downstairs to feed my twin sons. Another associate answered the phone whose name is Neil, and I asked him if it was the floor model. And then he said "Oh we found another box in the back, and we don't usually send out floor models". Short and sweet. If my wife didn't call, I probably wouldn't have received a confirmation. I was a little bit excited but did not really want to believe it. But I always maintain a positive outlook towards people with regards to the kind of world we live in. A few hours later, I told my wife to forward me the confirmation to my email. She then noticed that the shipping address said NY instead of NJ. (argh) We called J&R asap and the owners wife answered the phone. On her end, she said that the more updated tracking info was that it is being shipped to NJ. I then asked her if it was the floor model and she said yes. I told her what Neil said, that J&R found the same bike in a box, not assembled, other than the floor model, straight from the manufacturer. Two different stories, same store. "The bike was simply assembled, it is not like customers get on the bike and ride around the store, but let me get with Neil and we will straighten all of this out" she quoted. By now, for all of you who are reading this, how would you have felt then? At this point, I politely wanted to voice my main concern about it being a floor model, the website not stating it was a floor model, Neil explaining that we don't send out floor models usually and that they found the last box that was not assembled yet. Typical customer stuff regardless if the conversation was recorded for quality training purposes. But for some odd reason, the energy from her seemed rather impatient, annoyed, slightly. She could of just apologized, or simply just shrugged her shoulders and said Oh well! She did not ask if I wanted to cancel the order, but said that she will cancel the order herself, but I never said that I wanted to cancel the order. Delaney stated the she had the executive authority, that she ships bikes all across the world which really had no VALUE to the issue at hand. I don't know why she didn't just keep it professional if you know what I mean. It is not about customer service, but quality customer service. SHE HUNG UP ON ME without telling me if I will receive my sons bike. I work the services desk @ HOME DEPOT and if I did that, I would be fired immediately.
