No one enjoys being stuck in the middle of nowhere at 1am in the morning but it happened to my family on a recent trip to San Francisco when we lost our coolant and pulled over due to a thermometer that hit the red in a matter of seconds What to do when you are out of town and don't have a local, honest mechanic to go to? You turn to YELP! True the only review for this place was over 2 years old but I figure I take a chance since it was this or the BMW dealer in Fresno and that would have added to the towing charges from Coalinga. We took the risk as well because the auto repair shop ,Kevin's Auto repair in Coalinga sounded like a con artist based on the YELP reviews and decided to avoid at all cost. We were towed 40 miles from Coalinga to Hanford,so we had a nice scenic tour yet anticipating the worse, not only in cost but how long we would need to stay in town. I felt reassured that the towing company gave this place a good rating so I felt better about the decision to take it to J&T. Our car was looked at upon the hour of arriving and told the prognosis, and told that the car would be ready in the afternoon since they would need to drive to Fresno for the parts. I won't get too technical with the parts, but it had to do with a pulley that lost a bolt, bearing, was stripped, belt snapped (yep, did see a piece of the belt sitting on top of the windshield reservoir when the hood was opened up initially) and a cracked water reservoir. The car was fixed within 5 hours and we were off again. I'm grateful someone took the time to write a review on this shop because you never know who else can use this as a life saver as well as money saver. Most importantly, I appreciated the honest of the shop. read more

Let me share the following with you. Don't ever piss off any of the following people: Hair stylist, banker, dentist nor mechanic. I'm sure there are quite a few others but you get the point. The difference between a good haircut and a bad one is about three weeks. It's only a matter of how you look over the three week period. The same holds true with a mechanic. Most of us go to our local mechanic for various reasons (insufficient knowledge/experience to conduct our own repairs, no available space to conduct the repairs, etc...). So there has to be trust. And these guys I trust. I have been here twice in a year for routine maintenance (tires, fluids, etc...) Even as busy are they were, I was in and out within 30 minutes. But being a fly on the wall, I listened to the interactions with other customers and the staff. Extremely professional and full of options. Here it is in a nutshell: For those of us which can't tell the difference between a strut and a shock (just an example), go see these folks. Too many times I have witnessed auto shops charging for products/services not required or overcharging for parts/service required. Do yourself a favor, if you are considering using an auto shop for repairs check them out first. read more

I stopped in on the recommendation of a friend. My daughter's car had a headlight out and I had an estimate from one of the 'discount' parts and auto repair businesses. They told me that the bulb for a 2004 VW Jetta would be $75.00 for the bulb and installation. I called J&T and brought the car in. They installed the light and added a quart and a half of oil. The bill was just over $25.00. I stopped in again today to have them check to see if they thought the car was using too much oil. They checked and said that it was within the norm for a car with so many miles. I wish my daughter lived close enough to use them on a regular basis. read more

I had spent a lot of money here getting an older VW repaired, probably around $3,000 with an engine replacement. I had spent more money getting other stuff done as well. So one day I had the lug nuts frozen tight on the wheel hey could and pulled in to see if they could just loosen the lug nuts a bit so I could get the wheel off. The owner or manager in the front immediately refused to have it done. You would think that after someone spends money at a business they would take that into consideration. Enough said, I went down the street to Badasci's Tire....Not only did they loosen the lug nuts, they did it no charge. I now take all my business to Badasci's Tire and they have wonderful service, and John at Badasci's is awesome, as well as the other people there. read more

I brought my BMW in for service at J and T and they did an excellent job! They notified me of a couple things I need to keep an eye on and the estimate for those jobs. I saved a lot of time and money by going here rather than the BMW dealership which is 45 minutes away. I made a trip from san francisco to porterville ca to purchase my dream car, a 1973 JAG series 1 saloon. I bought it, drove about 100 miles in the direction of home and she broke down. I was devistated. In the middle of no where and the tow truck driver recommended I take it to j&t motors. It was definitely a good call. I was unable to stay with the car so I had to conduct all by business from sf to hanford, not easy but bob and al were outstanding! Bob was always patient and took the time every time we spoke to explain to me my cars progress. It is hard enough finding a local trustworthy mechanic but to have landed on an unknown repair shop and to have a great experience is unheard of! Thank you bob! Please stay away from this place. Had a brand new air compressor put in my bmw and the ac is still in the same condition before I took my car there. When I complained to the service person he told me it's hot outside as if with a new air compressor the car's AC should not be running cold. They rob me. He gave me a one year warranty but I'm afraid to take my car back and would rather count it as a lost. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by the service I received last week at J & T motors. I didn't know what to expect price wise since this auto shop is popular for working on European cars. However after reading all the reviews talking about how good the prices are and how speedy their service is, I decided to give them a shot. I took my 2009 328i BMW in at 8am and they finished diagnosing as well as clearing the codes by 9:30. I was also able to take my car home and return later on the same day to have some work done on the transmission. As soon as they finished up I felt myself beginning to wince as I thought the total amount due was going to be through the roof. It was not!! I was so relieved that these guys didn't overcharge me AND they were speedy. As soon as I got back on the road the ride was soo much smoother. I appreciate the time, effort and honesty these guys put into their customers/cars. Thank you J & T motors!! 10/10 I highly recommend. read more

J&T Motors in Hanford specializes in foreign vehicles especially, BMW, Audi and Volkswagen. I recently purchased a 1995 BMW 325is (project car for my two sons) that needed a new engine. After purchasing the vehicle, my boys and I immediately worked on overhauling the engine. We pulled out the old engine and rebuilt it from ground up. It took us a month to put it back together and put over 300 miles before taking it in for a smog in a local smog shop for DMV to transfer the title. The test failed miserably, so I replaced few more parts (i.e. O2 sensor, 2 injectors), and made couple more adjustments to what I thought the cause of the problem might be. I then took the car in for a smog again at a different smog shop, and the result was a little better than the first, but it still failed. I practically replaced every part that I thought might be the cause, until I finally gave up and decided to give J&T Motors a call. When I took my car in, I spoke to Bob and explained to him my problem and he immediately put me at ease by explaining to me what they needed to do to. I left the car with them for a day, expecting that they would conduct the same diagnostic inspections that I have already conducted. Later that day, the owner of the shop, Al, called me and asked what parts I have already replaced, and I told him. He told me that he needed to have the car a little longer to do his diagnostic and necessary repair. The next day, I received a call from the owner telling me that there was nothing mechanically wrong with the car, bit it was still failing the smog inspection. At this time, he already spent over 5 hours of labor on my car trying to isolate the cause. At $75.00 an hour for labor, that was $375.00. And my car was still not smogged. He, then recommended to have the catalytic converter replaced even though I know and he knows that the converter on my car was still in good condition. It was risk that I had to take, but Al, assured me that It would pass since he had already exhausted and eliminated other causes. It took them a few days to order the converter and replaced the old one. I picked my car this morning, and to my surprised, Al found the problem! My car passed the smog test with flying colors. I highly recommend this shop for any BMW, Audi, and Volkswagen owners. They know what they are doing, they kept me informed of what they were doing throughout, and the best part, they only charged me half of the labor that was actually performed on my car. Day one of our drive from San Diego to Washington, we encountered a couple of problems with a stubborn classic Porsche that decided it didn't want to make the long drive. When we showed up at the office first thing Monday morning, we spelled out our issues and our time constraints and they wasted no time digging in and troubleshooting our issues. We elected to continue our drive without getting all the repairs done as we had time constraints. Absolutely the best mechanics I've ever worked with. Extremely honest, talented people. After taking my VW to TWO dealerships (Fresno and Clovis) who could not solve the problem, but were happy to take my money, I called these guys. I'm new to the area so I was a little apprehensive at first. Bob at the desk was able to tell me the likely problem over the phone - something that the dealers couldn't even do after charging me diagnostics fees and seeing the car themselves. He did his research, replaced some parts, cleaned out some carbon, and my car ran smoothly. I had my car back and running perfectly in a week for less than HALF of the estimates I was provided by the dealerships. Now a year later I'm bringing my car back there for a different problem. Just for fun, I called both dealerships to see if they could give me an estimate on repairs. They both provided me estimates well over $900, but J &T is fixing it for about half of that cost. J & T Motors has come to the rescue TWO days in a row! Monday my air conditioner decided to take a vacation, and Tuesday my window regulator went out. (Note its over a 100 this week in the Valley). Both visits to J & T were effortless. They said bring the car in, they fixed, and had it back to me within the day. There pricing is INCREDIBLY reasonable. This is not my first regulator replacement (3rd to be exact, BMW is really known for their engines, which I love!) and this replacement was MUCH more economical!! If it had the option to use 0 stars I would. I will never recommend J&T motors ever in my life. They caused me 1 month of high stress. I was quoted 1000-5000k for a "cylinder head" replacement on my prestine 2006 BMW, they couldnt even tell me what was exactly wrong with my car but said it could be 1 of 2 things and even then it wasnt forsure but "If i were them i would go with the 5000 repair". Something didnt feel right about the situation because if i wasnt going to spend 5000k i would like to know that when i picked my BMW up it would be working and they couldnt even guarentee that. So i pulled my car out of their shop and figured out a way i was going to pay for a new cylinder head, because i trusted their word and they said they ran all these test and cylinder head #2 was only pushing 100psi...fast foward 1 month later i find a mechanic and to my amazement cylinder head #2 is pushing out 190psi and the repair was $87 and just needed a new coil which they said they ruled out. I almost came very close to giving this shop every penny to my name and tried to get a second job to pay for the expenses. Needless to say they almost ripped off a 26 year old female while watching me cry when they broke the news to me! read more
